T O P I C R E V I E WReeseCI have a knack for hearing or reading languages and immediately knowing what it is; It's weird, but linguistics is a STRONG passion of mine, and I'm always trying to learn a new language, or listen to foreign conversations. I also speak several languages fluently. I started in 3rd grade with french casually because I felt like English just wasn't enough for me, then Polish because I lived in Chicago in a diverse neighborhood, then Spanish in 7th, then French studying abroad, then Farsi because I thought it would be useful. I'm now learning Putonghua. Does anybody else identify with this? What aspects make a person language obsessed(not necessarily communication obsessed)Gemini Sun/Virgo ASC/Leo MoonMercury trine Uranus(4HPlacidus/5H whole inCapricorn)Mercury sextile Jupiter(10H P/11H W in Cancer)Mercury in 9H in Taurus)StawrThat is so fascinating! I do not speak any languages fluently. But I would like to know who does and what their placements are.otha92moon in 2nd houseKibrianaI think that Mars, Jupiter, Sun, Mercury or Venus in 3rd house, strong, well-aspected Mercury, Mercury trine/sextile Jupiter or Uranus, Gemini Ascendant might do the trick. Gemini / Virgo Sun ( I studied languages and most students were either Geminis or Virgos). Planets in Sagittarius can also come in handy. Geeky* Gemini or Virgo Sun* Mercury in H1 (fast learners)- Mercury or Jupiter in H3 (the house of communications)* Possibly Mars in H3 * = I have these and I learn languages very fast too. ------------------“Most people would rather be sheep than stand on their own with antlers on.”Canadiangirl Kibriana:I think that Mars, Jupiter, Sun, Mercury or Venus in 3rd house, strong, well-aspected Mercury, Mercury trine/sextile Jupiter or Uranus, Gemini Ascendant might do the trick. --Think it might be other aspects than these. I have many of these aspects (venus, mercury, sun in third house, gem ascendant, well aspected mercury) and learning other languages was never easy for me. Or maybe I'm weirdlibran_dreamI'm very interested in learning languages too. It's a hobby for me.I learn quickly and easily, and I get the accent quite quickly. I speak several languages, in varying degrees of fluency. Italian was the easiest to learn for me, French the hardest. Can not master the French "r" for the life of me , it is probably my biggest language frustration of all time.I really love studying ancient languages, too, and their alphabets. I've taken classes in Latin and Biblical Hebrew and lessons in Ancient Greek. I have the formation that Kibriana mentions: Mercury trine Uranus and sextile Jupiter, which is their midpoint. That Uranus is conjunct Moon and they're both in Sag. Uranus is in H3, Moon close to the H2/H3 cusp. I also have Neptune in H3. So H7 Aries Mercury is trine H3 Sag Uranus and H2/H3 Sag Moon, and sextile H4 Aqu Jupiter, which is Moon/Mercury & Mercury/Uranus midpoint. My Mars is in Gemini, which I'm sure helps, and I'm a Taurus Sun. FaithMy friend knows a bunch of languages. She has: 11H Cap Mercury conjunct Mars, sextile Uranus (on her 9H cusp),sextile Pisces VenusSo Mercury-Mars on the Venus-Uranus MP.Also, sun trine 3H Jupiter (1 degree.)PisceanDreamI have a serious knack for language. I speak English, Arabic, Spanish and survival mode French (enough to find my way in Paris or Leon). I know some random phrases in at least 10 different languages. Languages have always been a passion of mine. After totally mastering Spanish, I hope to return to French. I rarely, if ever, struggle with pronunciation. I hope to learn German, Japanese and Russian.I have Pisces Mercury conjunct Sun, Saturn, Venus in the 1st. Gem moon in the 5th trine Mars in the 1st.sweet-scorpionFor language learning capacities, I always look to Mercury, its house, and its ruler. If Mercury is in the 3rd or the 9th, there's a potential for good communication skills/a focus on writing and communicating, but it doesn't necessarily indicate language learning capacity. However, this is certainly a possibility if Mercury receives supportive aspects from other planets that show an intent to study and learn - a love of study. If Mercury's ruler is in a 'difficult' house for education, like the 12th, or if Mercury and/or its ruler are adversely aspected by Neptune, there could be issues with communicating and the attention span in general, which may impede language learning capacities. Even if Mercury is positively aspected by a benefic like Jupiter, it doesn't indicate language learning capacities, either. Mercury-Jupiter might have a bright outlook and a gift for gab, but it doesn't really point to a love of language. In some cases, yes; but easily no, in others. There would have to be other signs: Mercury in the 3rd or 9th, or Jupiter in either house, and possibly some Saturn influences to either one or both planets. Adding Saturn to the mix will allow for intense concentration and focus so projects [like language assignments, for example] can be finished in-depth. I've actually found that people with Mercury-Saturn, Mercury-Mars, Mercury-Uranus and/or Moon in Gemini or Virgo are the ones more likely to find an interest in language, at the very least - and most I've known [including myself] are good at learning language, with hard work and study. As I've said throughout this post, Mercury-Saturn leads one to take education and studies seriously (usually). Mercury-Mars can create a sharp, quick thinker, which can help with language abilities. Mercury-Uranus shows a love of all things different and transnational, which makes sense for a love of language. To add my own story, I'm a Mercury-Saturn and Mercury-Mars person, with Saturn in the 3rd and Mercury in the 11th. I'm very good at learning some languages, but others are not interesting to me unless they have practical applications [very Saturnine]. I want to learn Spanish again, since I plan to work in South America. I'm better at picking up a language if I do written work vs. listening to someone speak it [Saturn in the 3rd - concrete applications]. I love German and I intend to learn more of it since this language also comes easily to me if I sit down and put study time in for 15-20 minutes a day. I want to do study abroad in Germany. GrachaSun in Aries and a Mercury in Pisces sitting in 9th house training Uranus and Neptune. 12th house gemini moon. Those are my placements. I also feel that other people already covered the more special and complex indicators like MP and stuff. I only covered most of the basic, fundamental ones that are specifically related to language. Like Geeky said, Mercury in the 1st House would make someone have a skill for learning a language, and I agree, because those people are fast at learning in general, but I didn't include it in my list because I was only listing placements that were specific to learning a language(s) (as well as many other placements that could end up pursuing a language) ~ (like take Jupiter in Sagittarius for example, because they're very open-minded and interested with other cultures and things around the world and not native to their own) ~ (Jupiter in Sagittarius's main focus is indeed Philosophy, though), but they don't exactly pinpoint to learning a language, as they're the more broad placements - that can manifest in being interested in learning a language(s).But to sum up the general astrological components that are necessary for making up a person that either has a knack or skill in learning languages... here they are:-Gemini-Sagittarius-3rd House-9th House-Mercury-JupiterDreaminessI have actually noticed alot of sagittarius/jupiter influenced people can speak different languages they dont even have to have sag mercury or mercury/jupiter in their charts, actually none of those i have experience that can do this have had mercury in sag or merc/jupiter aspects. In most of these experiences i have seen people with their venus in sag that speak different languages and has a thing for forgein language I have also noticed they themselves get impressed by others that can also speak many different languages or just another language from them. And with the jupiter aspects i have seen in most experiences people with either venus/jupiter sun/jupiter and or mars/jupiter aspects that can speak different languages and have a passion for it. I have also noticed sag moons or moon/jupiter people also have had a "thing" for foreign people/languages/places.Kibriana quote:Originally posted by Dreaminess:I have actually noticed alot of sagittarius/jupiter influenced people can speak different languages they dont even have to have sag mercury or mercury/jupiter in their charts, That's quite true. So Mercury-Mars on the Venus-Uranus MP.
