Aquarius can probably relate to, or at least try to relate to, weird thought processes.
They may still come to the same conclusion as anyone else, but at least they make the attempt.
Scorpio's would have more energy to hang in there. Pisces will be in there crying with them, sympathetic as they are. IP: Logged |

Aquarians do have a tendency to refuse to "label" people as mentally ill because they would prefer to see them as simply different. However, this seems more common with Aqua moons than Aqua Suns, although Aqua Suns can be just as guilty. It seems their desire to be humanitarian and understanding of the "unusual" sometimes overrides their reason, and consequently they might deem the rest of us as being irrational for not seeing that "difference is not a disease," even if they are being utterly irrational about this themselves. Depending on the Aqua Sun, some are actually quite astute and clear-monded about what is really an illness. However, since many Aquas do take a big interest in humanitarian issues, and mental illness is in fact a societal, cultural and humnanitarian crisis in our present day, it wouldn't be surprising if many take at elast an interest in mental illness one way or the other. Aqua placements nonetheless are no guarantee that the Aqua person will be smart about their interests in the mentally ill. Highyl argumentive and dogmantic, sure, but even though all Aqua are inclined to rely on reason rather than emotion doesn't mean their reasoning isn't without faults (and sometimes very egregious ones, since Aquas have a very hard time acknowledging when their emotions - which they do in fact have - are clouding their judgement). I had a huge verbal boxing match with someone once on a non-astrologer forum about whether multiple personality/dissociative personality was really a disorder or "simply a different way of living." Me, being a Gemini and thus obsessed with freedom and volition, agrued that yes, indeed these were illnesses because such people didn't have volitional control over what "personality" they exhibited and voliton was a fundamental criterion of human mental health. This guy argued back that it was unfair to "judge" them as ill, and we all should be "open" to such people because it was like "having many friends in one person." Of course, he refused to look at the whole quality of life issue as he dismissed it as the product of a "conventional" and thus "outdated" understanding of this illness and focusing on the "uniqueness" of such of "friendships." Suspicious, I looked at the guy's profile, and yep, he was an Aquarius. IP: Logged |

I have known several Aquarians who have struggled with mental illness themselves, and paranoia, so that would give more compassion.Natasha Taurus IP: Logged |

I know two Aquarians with autistic children. They are incredibly strong characters and cope with it better than most of us - they combine the ability to detach and see the situation objectively with genuine caring for that person's welfare. It's a very fine quality of love.IP: Logged |

Well, I know that I would rather get to know someone for myself and judge than take another person's word for it. So, I've had friends with bad reputations or have been outcast. Some of them really were messed up in the head. I suppose I am more open to the experience of knowing somebody crazy. I'd say the only people I don't have fun with are people who are afraid of their own quirks. Everybody has quirks. I think it makes the world more interesting. Some people try so hard to be normal and wind up shutting people they care about because of the boundaries they set. IP: Logged |

The human mind is just so facinating. As an Aquarius I have to fight the temptation to get entangled with someone I know is mentally unbalanced, because of the sheer amount of chaos they can bring into my life- which I don't want or need. It is difficult to keep them at arms length, while at the same time study and analyze them. (I try to figure out what went wrong with their mind, and see if I can help fix it.) IP: Logged |

My best friend is an Aquarius with Aquarius Rising (Aries Moon), and he is fascinated by "mental illness" - which is probably why he's my best friend (or I'm his - or however that works,,,).He grew up in Danvers, MA, near the famous asylum up there (the one in the movie Session 9) ... we used to visit it often..... And he remains interested in "institutionalization", whether of patients or prisoners...but he's presently pursuing his interest in Chinese Medicine.. He definitely thinks differently. He's not entirely sure he believes in "intelligence". How's that for independent thinking? IP: Logged |

this reminds me of something that was just one "Boston Legal". if you don't watch that show, here's what happened--the one character, a lawyer, was involved with getting an ex-girlfriend out of a mental institution. she was in there because she ran over him years ago. he was there to help her even though she ran over him before and, argued as a lawyer that if this mental hospital was indeed a "hospital" a patient who was cured should be allowed to go home. his whole argument was very aquarian and humanitarian. in the end, he got her out of the mental institution and she started to somewhat stalk him, proving that indeed, she was somewhat mental. in the end, he ended up trying to understand her and being "friends" - the great aquarian word with her. he said to one of his friends - i always end up staying friends with ex-girlfriends that are somewhat psychotic. it just reminded me of an aquarian to a t. as for personal experience, i knew a person with an aqua venus, and he actually seemed to attract people with some form of mental illness (even though i think depression, ect. are neccesarily mentally "ill".) i think it was him who was attracted to them, rather vice versa, but don't try to tell him that. it was like - if someone had something that made them stand out he wanted to investigate. it just made them all the more attractive to him if they had emotional problems in their past or whatever.
