A.C. Jobim can pour a lot of emotion into his music and still make it sound light and breezy, VERY nice. But its really complex and sophisticated, yet subtle, which means alot of mediocre artists and conductors make a lot of his stuff sound like crap, and a lot of it is in portugese, but here's some of my favourite instrumental and english versions.

http://www.vervemusicgroup.com/product.aspx?ob=disc&src=art&pid=10263 -vivo sonhando (dreamer)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002N3Y/ref=pd_bxgy_img_b/103-9692125-72 69410?%5Fencoding=UTF8 -photograph, outra vez (once again)

**** .. .. ur tears just couldnt help fallin when u hear the first note ****

on hearing the jordanian royal military brass band .. attempting to play the british national anthem ... on bagpipes 'n all ... brought tears to my eyes .. a pain to my ears .. and a roar of laughter from my throat ..
.. must have been a t.mars to n.merc transit on ..

... i'm sure it sounded great to them ...

*** LOL, killing me softly with his songs ***

... nice one ! ..

... the above .. .. i should have explained ....
western music has the equal temperment intonantion ...
arabic music uses lots of quater tones .. eighth tones ...
the average jordanian would grow up listening to arabic music ..
and the musical 'intervals' in their head would be arabic ..
so the result of arabic native musicians playing a western composition ..
can be .. er .. somewhat amusing ... ...

i be brought up on western music ..

... got to say .. i realy took to some of the arabic music .. the traditional stuff ..

... but getting back to thread topic .. on a mite more serious note ..

it aint a romantic number ... but ..
Adagio for Strings by Barber ....
that's a guaranteed tear jerker come misty windscreen .. pour moi ..
Adagio in G minor by Albinoni .. be near that level as well ..

The First Cut is The Deepest .. does the same job .. different heartstring ..

food calls ... must amble off to kitchen ..
be well ..

Fumbling his confidence
And wond’ring why the world has passed him by
Hoping that he’s meant for more than arguments
And failed attempts to fly, fly

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside

Dreaming about providence
And whether mice or men have second tries
Maybe we’ve been livin with our eyes half open
Maybe we’re bent and broken, broken

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside

We want more than this world’s got to offer
We want more than this world’s got to offer
We want more than the wars of our fathers
And everything inside screams for second life

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live
We were meant to live

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

And I’d give up forever to touch you
´Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be
And I don’t wanna go home right now

And all I cant taste in this moment
And all I can breath is your life
And sooner or later it’s over
I just don’t wanna miss you tonight

And I don’t want the world to see me
´Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t coming
Or the moments of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
And you bleed just to know you’re alive.

And I don’t want the world to see me
´Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

Canadian guy, this one is on my playlist too, but I didn't have the lyrics in my lyrics folder so I looked them up It doesn't do this song justice without the music but it's better than nothing It would be great if someone covered this one with today's advances in music quality.

Let’s dance in style, lets dance for a while
Heaven can wait we’re only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you going to drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young or let us live forever
We don’t have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music’s for the sad men

Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders we’re getting in tune
The music’s played by the madmen

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later they all will be gone
Why don’t they stay young

It’s so hard to get old without a cause
I don’t want to perish like a fading horse
Youth is like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever

So many adventures couldn’t happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams are swinging out of the blue
We let them come true

Alphaville - Forever Young

Ok, I will quit with the lyrics for a bit, but I want to add Creed's Higher and Arm's Wide Open to the "touching" song list, and also add that I cry whenever I hear most songs in Disney movies hehe

this song actually brings me to a place of tears- or beyond tears.. EVERY time I hear it. And I've probably heard it over a thousand times

Exit Music (for a film)- Radiohead

Wake... from your sleep
The drying of your tears
Today.. we escape
We escape.

Pack and get dressed
Before your father hears us
Before.. all hell.. breaks loose.

Breathe... keep breathing
Don't lose.. your nerve.
Breathe... keep breathing
I can't do this.. alone.

Sing us a song
A song to keep us warm
There's such a chill
Such a CHILL.

You can laugh
A spineless laugh
We hope your rules and wisdom choke you
Now we are one
In everlasting peace

We hope that you choke.. that you choke
We hope that you choke.. that you choke
We hope that you choke.. that you choke

Love is but a song to sing
Fear's the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

Some may come and some may go
We shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
Fading in the grass

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

If you hear the song I sing
You will understand (listen!)
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It's there at you command

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now
