I guess living in Southern California I'm just too used to the ground shaking. 5.8 is a nice size but not big enough to cause a ton of damage unless it was right under a city. Hopefully, no one really got hurt but I'm thinking people are just emotionally shaken IP: Logged |

we, on the east coast, dont get earthquakes, LOL, we get hurricanes....and we happen to be threatened by a cat 2 hurricane right now ------------------ I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate? when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history IP: Logged |

I think I felt a magnetic pull rather than the quake (if that`s possable). I went to step up on the running board of the jeep and my right leg gently swayed and I thought what the heck and almost missed my step... finished cleaning the windows, came in and the news said it was an earthquake.------------------ Submit to Love without thinking, as the sun rose this morning recklessly, extinguishing our star-candled minds. its understandable that locations with volcanoes and major fault lines will have earthquakes (especially the ring of fire area) but as far as the east coast, not many and not often or at least they'r not felt------------------ I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate? when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history IP: Logged |

ok, i know what some of you (especially on the west coast) are thinking, that this earthquake here on the east coast isnt so big, its not a big deal, yadda yadda yadda....but the thing is our buildings here arnt built for earthquakes because it is so incredibly rare that we do get ones as strong as a 6 on the richter scale so even something that "small" can still bring down our buildings....so, its a pretty big deal for us ------------------ I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate? when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history IP: Logged |

The evening news said it was indeed felt this far north. Something about the solid rock under the east coast & outer areas (vs broken rock in the west) and it carries the shocks like a bell ringing. So, in essence, we all got our bell rung

It's because of your sediment type. It amplifies and conducts the wave of the earthquake better on top of the buildings not being so well built. It's why the New Madrid earthquake could be felt as a pretty strong earthquake far away in Kansas. Earthquakes of the same magnitude will be felt more strongly in San Francisco over LA due to LA having more stone vs sediment. My scientific friend in raleigh dreamed about an earthquake happening and then told all his coworkers in the lab about it right before it happened. He was all shocked about it. He'd never had a precognitive dream before. IP: Logged |

Nicki, when that first blizzard cross`s the plains and hits the quake ridden west coast, they won`t be laughing so hard then ... ------------------ Submit to Love without thinking, as the sun rose this morning recklessly, extinguishing our star-candled minds. Rumi IP: Logged |
