A tech person can probably go in and retrieve any Password inside the program if given Admin access to the server, Ami. With most modern boards the Admins actually can see Passwords (and sometimes the Mods). But it should be no big deal even if they can. This software here is such that I routinely can't pull them up, and I can't pull anything up on unregistered Users (wipes their entire account out). I do get an e-mail with all of that info when Newflakes first sign up, though. It's useful in trying to determine if it's a real User or potential SPAM. Completely random looking Passwords tend to be fake profiles and SPAM. Although, a few people do pick Passwords that look randomly-generated. I approve the User (or not) and then delete the e-mail notifications as I go through them. We are talking a few hundred new registrations each day. So, bottom line is that this software isn't set up to pull up Passwords. I can click on a User and retrieve their e-mail address, though. IP: Logged |

Wow, Randall What about if I buy tea from a tea store online, for example, and register there with the same password as my bank. Am I in trouble?------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. Check out my journal http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

One should never reuse a password. Make each one unique for each site. In LL, Mods can not see passwords or email address`s. Only seen ips are in the forums they Mod. Still scratching my head on all this business.... ------------------ Christian, Jew, Muslim, Shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the Mystery, unique and not to be judged. The tea place may or may not be able to see your Password if they try to. But why would they care to look? But yeah, it would be wise to have a different Password on shopping sites than you do at the bank you use to pay them with. Ultimately, the best thing you can do for security is to never click on links in e-mails where phishing attempts are being done. Go to the site referenced in the e-mail directly by typing it in your browser. IP: Logged |

Yep, just to further clarify, the Mods here at LL can't see any of that stuff. They can only see IPs--and then only in the Forums they moderate. Other than that, they can edit Posts or delete them (which they have been instructed not to do except in extreme circumstances like porn), and they can move threads from Forums they moderate only (to more appropriate Forums). quote: Originally posted by juniperb: One should never reuse a password. LOL nothing on the internet is private, if you typed it, or posted it, even in the most secure encrypted way possible...someone will still have the means of taking it and doing 'things' with it. (Hello NSA, Prism, you think they are the only ones? because they're not)Honestly i used to be so worried about people in my day to day life hacking into my stuff, as they did before, but now really can't be bothered, not to mention they do something bad, i'll do something worst, specially after all the trouble they caused in the past,(BTW this is nothing to do with LL or the people who post here, but ppl in my offline, so called life, so i know some weak willed pathetics would hack ur personal stuff to try and make you look bad, or give you problems...but thanks no thanks who needs them?) than worry about the illusion of a secure internet, when that thing doesn't exist. Having said all that, if there is a way for the webmaster (Randall??) to go and make this website more secure it'd be great, two of my posts disappeared again yesterday, and am not the only one. so obviously someone is either easily hacking here, and trying to do some damage, or there are glitches of some sort. Luckily yesterdays my posts were useless and nothing special about them lol. okay just my 2 cents about this whole thing... IP: Logged |

No one is deleting posts. When the server gets to surging (from high traffic plus multiple search engines crawling it at the same time), it can hang up the resources and make a thread or two malfunction. It's definitely a confirmed glitch. IP: Logged |

So internet dimension gremlins again lol? just thought it was weird as the posts will be there, and then next time i come to this website gone...other than that i hope some people will realise this grand trine is asking us what we want? be negative and get negativity, just be (honestly i don't believe in positive or negative, i believe in just being, and with calm energy, or just being with some horrible things trying to direct our course of action...and checks again this is the wrong thread but applies) and things will go good at some time in the future...okay going to the thread i meant to post in now... Been happening for years. But it's not nearly as bad as it used to be. If I know the server is spiking, I can now give it a little nudge before posts poof. IP: Logged |

I agree. I actually thought you could see passwords Randall and I really don't mind at all since I only used this password here. jelly -

Glad to see questions and answers on computer-things lately, yay!I've been here a year, and I've wanted to know this: .... Seems that Lexxigramer's threads seem to 'glitch' more than any other threads I've seen here. Would it have anything to do with equipment used from the personal computers she posts from? Styles we choose? I know that with a couple of threads on SP that I had to "Disable Smilies In This Post" to get it to go through. Do you get to see the 'crawler-identities' and perhaps tell them that their particular ID is making our forums glitch? Maybe the 'crawlers' only like "topics, Or perhaps they 'crawl' after only certain "usernames"? (That would make the most sense to me.... at least._) ___ AND..... I subscribe to several astrology websites, and they send email links to their site. When I click on one of their links, is "THAT" what you're talking about above? How about a DeskTop Shorcut to their site? Is that safer? IP: Logged |

I do wonder why it does seem to happen to me often, more than others. I wonder if my slow typing causes some. I have posted from both private and public computers but it still happens. And ages of computers from 15 years old down to less than a year old. Or does it happen more in threads where people are replying too fast and a bunch are replying at the same time. Well anyhow; I find it weird and I hate it.

It makes no rational sense that it would happen more to LEXX. Maybe a supernatural explanation? You can only have 7 smilies. Any more than that, and it won't go through. That's written into the software. The search engines crawl the entire site--every word and image. Being a popular site, we are crawled constantly by one or more of them. No, I'm not talking about e-mail links to sites. We send those out also when you click that you want to be notified that your topic has new posts. I'm talking about fake sites. For example, you may get an e-mail that your PayPal account has been compromised, and the e-mail says that you must click this link to verify your identity and log in. You click the link and are transported to PayPal where you log in. You have just been phished. They now have control over your account. The site looks like PayPal, but it's fake. quote: Originally posted by mirage29: Glad to see questions and answers on computer-things lately, yay!I've been here a year, and I've wanted to know this: ....
