jwhop- Bush has done some brazen things to push christianity. You can see the entire special here:

A PRESIDENT AND HIS FAITH http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/jesus/

Most appaling, I thought, is where he passed a law and started handing our tax money churches (Because god knows those televangilists are always strapped for cash.)

And in an in-your-face move, the money only goes to CHRISTIAN churches. Jews, Buddhists, and many others have put in their application for the grants, but to this day they have all been denied.

I live in Texas. We have THREE christian television stations here where they talk all day long about the Book of Revelations, and the "End Times" and how this War has been mandated by God.

The book of revelations states that Babylon must be restabilished for Jesus to return. Our president believes this, and has said so.

Where is Babylon?

Any guesses?

IRAQ.

Our president thinks he's doing Jesus a favor.

Cute list you have there. But you should watch your sources, because some of that was an absolute lie.

Many times I have turned on my television to hear a right wing politician command that I pack my bags and get on the next plane out.

America was founded by Christians for Christians, they loudly proclaim, and everyone else should leave.

"The government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion" - George Washington

[Treaty of Peace and Friendship (Treaty of Tripoli) Article 11, ratified by the Senate under the second president John Adams.]

Thomas Jefferson

“Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make one half the world fools and the other half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the earth." -Thomas Jefferson

Besides being the 3rd President of the United States, and the writer of the Declaration of Independence; Thomas Jefferson would be one of the last men you could claim as a God-Fearing Christian.

He also wrote:

"Christianity...(has become) the most perverted system that ever shone on man. ...Rogueries, absurdities and untruths were perpetrated upon the teachings of Jesus by a large band of dupes and importers led by Paul, the first great corrupter of the teaching of Jesus."

Jefferson was known to refer to the Bible as a "Dunghill." (That is, a piece of sh*t)

The Right Wing lies with great frequency claiming all famous names as Christians, in order to push their agenda, for example:

David Barton's book The Myth of Separation, David Barton quotes James Madison as saying:

“We have staked the whole future of American civilization not upon the Ten Commandments.”

The only problem with the above is, no such quote has ever been found among any of James Madison's writings. The footnote Barton gives is a dead end.

None of the biographers of Madison, past or
present have ever run across such a quote, and most if not all would love to know where this false quote originated.

Apparently, David Barton did not check the work of the secondary sources he quotes. Besides even attempting to say that James Madison, a man described by some to be “a frothy barking dog, snapping at anyone who tried to combine religion and government,” is completely absurd.

Some of the more popular quotes given by the Christian fundamentalists are:

It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible. --George Washington

I have always said and always will say that the studious perusal of the Sacred Volume will make us better citizens. --Thomas Jefferson

As great as these quotes sound -they dont exist!

Even though they are quoted with great frequency no one has ever been able to find them anywhere.

This tactic is very common for the Christian Right; apparently they have little respect for their followers.

What's this about men from Boston being uptight about sex??? Any men from Boston out there want to comment?

Also I'm a Cancer with Leo rising and the most common way that people describe me is intelligent. I feel that I think too much!

My view is that I wasted my vote on Nader the last time and I'm not doing it again. Bush has to go! I was ashamed for him during Fahrenheit 911 when he sat in the classroom for whatever length of time when he knew the country was under attack. "Excuse me children, I have important presidental responsibilities to attend to. It was wonderful to meet you all. Remember to strive to do your very best in all you do. Blah blah." and leave! But he did not make a good choice and it's time for a change. I know someone who had a newborn baby and now her husband was sent off to Iraq. That sucks! This is a war of ego and control for the sake of money not freedom. Sometimes we have to make the choice of lesser of two evils rather than have the choice made for us. Vote for Nader and you may as well not even show up to the voting booth.

Continue with Bush and stem cell research will be stifled and people wanting hope for a chance at a better life may be prevented from doing so. People who are gay have had to put up with ignorant attitudes that want to make them second class citizens. No you can't marry - anyone who know someone who is gay clearly knows that are not that way out of choice. I'm hearing of states now wanting to revoke the freedom of gays marrying. Talk about fighting for your freedom. How is Bush's attitude towards these issues compassionate. I say fairness and equitable treatment is more of a deciding factor to me. Compassion is subjective depending on what you value. The religious conservatives have had their way for too long. I say vote for Kerry and see what happens.

Well, both suck in my opinion. I am a left-libertarian, and personally I think the gov't plays too much of a role in personal matters (gay marriage, abortion)My philosophy has always been live and let live. The government should have no right to dictate beliefs, personal matters, etc.

I'm not sure if I'll vote this year, but if I do, I would say Kerry is the lesser of two evils. I mean, it's hard to fathom him screwing up the country more so than Bush has already done. I really like Nader, however, I don't think now is the time to vote for third-party candidates.

A silly question from an uninformed citizen...why did Bill Maher & Michael Moore beg Nadar not to run for President?

They're afraid Nader will get votes that would otherwise go to Kerry and help Bush win.

Ummm, excuse me but the President sat in that classroom for just over 6 minutes while the Secret Service was making certain Air Force 1 was being flight prepped by the pilots and would be ready to fly.....and a fighter escort was being scrambled to give air cover.

In contrast, John Heinz Kerry was sitting in the Senate Minority Leaders office of Tom Daschle and these are his words. "no one could think". That went on for more than 40 minutes.

Just injecting a little truth into the mix here since Michael Moore and friends never get within spitting distance of the truth. Hope no one minds hearing the truth. You don't mind, do you?

Hypocrite Kerry 'Couldn't Think' for 40 Minutes on 9/11

John Kerry is getting his comeuppance for his snotty comments about President Bush's actions on 9/11.

Here's what the Massachusetts Democrat said July 8 when Larry King asked where he was on 9/11, according to CNN's own transcript:

'Nobody Could Think'.................

Another very interesting thread.

I didn't know when GWB's b'day was. I cannot believe he's a Cancerian. I'm just in a shocked state here. His relationship with Barbara is certainly due more research 'cause isn't so much of Moon Kidz about their childhood (and even adult) relationship w/mommy?

Not that anyone needs to or wants to or cares to know, but I'm registered as a member of the Green Party here in the USA, by the way...

Anyone know about Dennis Kucinich's chart?

LeylaLeFay, are you in any way suggesting these so called Christian television stations are receiving money from the federal government in the form of grants or any other mechanism of funding connected to the federal government? Because if you are suggesting that, I'm going to suggest you prove it.

quote:
Most appaling, I thought, is where he passed a law and started handing our tax money churches (Because god knows those televangilists are always strapped for cash.)

Again, I'm going to ask you to back up your assertion the President handed money to television evangelists. Just to keep the record straight here LeylaLeFay, all spending bills originate in the House of Representatives....just for starters. A similar spending bill must be passed by the Senate, then comes the reconciliation between the House and Senate bills, then the vote by both chambers on the final language of the consolidated bill, then the bill is sent to the President for his signature, signing it into law or his veto.

Hmmm, as for your compliant of turning on your television...........

quote:
Many times I have turned on my television to hear a right wing politician command that I pack my bags and get on the next plane out.

Never once, in my entire life have I ever heard a politician of any political persuasion, or minister of any church for that matter, say those who are not of the Christian faith should leave America. Where are you getting this stuff............?

JW, I don't understand the significance of his empty 10th house. The cusp is in Cappy, so Saturn in the 10th.

From: http://www.bobmarksastrologer.com/tenthhouse.htm

"This house indicates one’s career tendencies, public image (as opposed to private image), the parent of greater influence (usually the mother), and people who may have power or authority over you (bosses, judges, etc.). Yes, planets IN this house affect the career. So does the SIGN at the beginning (the cusp) of the house, as well as the RULING PLANET of that sign."

Saturn in the Tenth House: This placement is great for business. It is also good for the careers of medicine and research scientist, or of research in general. Hey, isn’t Saturn supposed to be the planet of "bad luck"? Well, it is also the planet of hard work, discipline, and organizational ability, all of which are required by the above professional. Just remember that when you get to the top to keep working. Saturn also rules falls.

Angular houses correspond to the Cardinal signs. These are houses 1, 4, 7, and 10, the houses that begin with the Angles of the horoscope.

Missing Angular Houses: When there are no planets in Angular houses, it becomes more difficult to initiate things, to stay in the here and now.

LS, politicians are leaders or they are supposed to be. The 10th House, Midheaven, corresponds to Cardinal signs and in this chart, a politician is missing planets there.

Further, if anyone needs a strong 10th House it's politicians and entertainers. Those in the public eye in their chosen professions. My opinion, of course but I would prefer to have the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars or Pluto or a combination of the same, on the Midheaven.....if I were a politician or entertainer

Actually, 8,9, and 10 are all empty. None of my houses are very *strong*. My strongest is the 6th.

Hmm... *~toddles off to find out what that means~*

JW... I you You're always makin' me think.
