There are chemical differences in the brain between a person who has been diagnosed with BP and one who has not. There is always a physical component to mental disorder, but often they are triggered by an event in the patient's life. The problem doesn't need to be a "larger" physical problem. It can simply be the physical manifestation of the disorder which is in itself a large enough problem. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how astrology would come into this.IP: Logged |

5 years ago I had a nrevous breakdown and was hospitalized for 7 days. In those 7 days I spoke to a dr. for a total of like 10 mins a day. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I think it had more to do w/ not getting enough sleep, myself. However I'd just like to note here that bipolar or not I have sun in virgo ans a pisces ascendant, which are polar opposites Hmmmmm....IP: Logged |

Hello I would say, without knowing much about the houses yet, that if Bipolar disorder had to do with astrology it would probably involve the Sun, Asc and Venus being complete opposites like Buggin Out said. People have never refered to me as bipolar, but they say I totally surprise them when they get to know me. My Sun is Leo, but then my ASC and Venus are in Virgo (making me appear very reserved and anti social), so they are always amazed when they uncover all my fiery energy and passion, like "whoa where the hell did that come from, I thought you were this shy, innocent quiet girl!". For me, what you see is far from what you get! Of course in psychology, they dismiss this as social phobia or just plain being shy. I'm actually just beginning to study psychology and want to get my PHD to become a psychologist and then combine all I know with astrology to open up a spiritual psychology practice. I don't agree with psychiatrists who are so quick to tell you have a mental disorder based on chemicals being off and prescribe medicine for it. Every emotion we express is carried out through chemicals, so when they suddenly see the chemicals aren't "normal", they often fix the chemicals and neglect the person's emotions. Not all the time because even I think sometimes its necessary, but I just think thats done way too much for less severe cases. I'm sorry but we aren't robots, I think each individual is different and should be treated as such. Monica IP: Logged |

bugginout- interesting. My favourite writer (a virgo with a pisces moon) has suffered from Bp disorder all of his life. My sun and moon are polar opposites. I never thought about that before. leosweetheart- I am studying psychology as well. I agree with everything you said. As I wrote, there are the physical manifestations..doesn't mean they are the origin. I am afraid of meds, would like to avoid them. IP: Logged |

yea Whiterabbit, thats a good way to put it. The chemical part is usually just a "physical manifestation" of a larger emotional problem. exactly. What are you planning on doing with psychology? Or are you just interested in learning for fun? I think by the time I graduate, America will be more ready for my spiritual psychology practice by the way "new age" concepts are becoming more and more mainstream, don't ya think. Yea I've never had a good feeling about taking medicine for minor emotional problems, half the time the side effects are far worse than the symptoms themselves. No thank you Monica*~ IP: Logged |

true true, I dunno. Would love to see astrology mixed w/ psch. stuff. I never made the connection b/c i wsn't into astrology so much when that had happened to me. Also I have a square between my sun and moon, Virgo and Gemini. Overall I think that the term bipolar is way overused. I mean who in this crazy handbasket on the way to hell earth is always on an even keel? Let me know when we can develop a drug that does this. Currently there are no breakthrus on a drug that treats depression and mania together not separately. And until there is I will remain a polar bear!IP: Logged |

I'll be a bipolar bear then, too. That's how I felt as well. Like when I was answering the questions, I was thinking "um..hasn't EVERYONE in the world gone through times of depression and then been hyper and energized??" It's not HEALTHY but it's not uncommon either. Or an illness...ok, but then I would say my swings are a little more extreme and sudden..and perhaps there is something a little more to it than just moodiness (um..probably, I'd say). I don't know. I'm confused about the issue. Then there are real illnesses- I mean I have seen their ugly face in people close to- schizophrenia and the like..

I will definitely visit your astro/psych clinic. , by the way. Oh, and I'm studying psychology at uni. I was just really interested in it. Don't really know where I'll go with it. I have visions of myself as a scholar/musician.. that is what I will do ideally..stay in school forever and record an album on the side and live in...Paris..or Vienna...yes..that's the plan right now.

I use to think I had bipolar. Being a cusp gemini/cancer. I cant help but feel down sometimes. Sometimes being a gemini is tough too because i cant help being happy and in despair at the same time. I just get like that. Plus the cancer in me makes me very sensitive and there both moody anyways.IP: Logged |

That's an interesting bi-polar theory. My sister has just been diagnosed and she has Sun in Libra 6th house, opposite Moon in Aries 12th. She has had depression for about 9 years, it started as PND.She is in hospital right now. This is her fourth visit since Mid December. They can't seem to get her meds right. She has been to two different hospitals and she said one of them, they just wanted to drug everybody up. I wondered how a natural therapy such as meditation or other spiritual things might fit into such a program. purple_scorp IP: Logged |

Having a sun and moon square in general is an issue to overcome right? I mean Like in love signs all of the squared relationships, she made it a point to say that there are obstacles to overcome. But it'a also not the end of the world either. When I first got a natal chart done, I was just like yep, Ok conflicting placements may be an indicator or rather a tip-off to My so called behavior. Thanks so much for the article BTW. Also thanks for bringing up this highly intimate discussion, that I'm always wonderin bout! IP: Logged |

Mutable signs quite commonly suffer from mental or emotional disorders (I kid you not), perhaps to their dual nature. Just something I've observed. Pisces moons are quite sensitive. I have all 4 mutable signs in my chart...LOL. I've been from total euphoria to blackest depression in my life, though I think that to some extent that was diet-related. Most people with whom I come into contact think I'm crazy; I don't give a toss.IP: Logged |

ariestiger ~ You may be onto something there regarding the Mutable signs tying into depression. I also have all four Mutable signs in my chart (that is, if you count the Nodes too) with an emphasis on Virgo and Pisces. I often feel as if I am ruled by my emotions. And I can easily fall into deep depressions that overwhelm me to the point that I want to do nothing except crawl into bed and cry. Kurt Cobain's chart was heavily Mutable with an emphasis on Pisces & Virgo too. So maybe that could partly explain his terrible depressions that finally led to suicide. So maybe depression is especially prone for Virgo/Pisces types...?
