The descendant is the point opposite your ascendant..."At the cusp of the Seventh House, House of Interpersonal Relationships, sits the Descendant. Whereas the Ascendant represents the way we appear to the world, the Descendant reflects our relationships with those around us and what we project onto others: what we need from them, want from them, what we are willing to take from them. The Sign that rests on the Descendant, then, reflects the character of our connections with those around us, that Sign's characteristics being aspects we may feel are lacking in our own personalities. For example, if Sagittarius is at the Descendant, the individual seeks a wise, intellectual partner, one perhaps involved in education, philosophy or religion, while someone with Aries at the Descendant seeks relationships with very adventurous and restless types, like artists or athletes" and thats at http://www.astrology.com/aboutastrology/interpreting/angles/descendant.html?arrivalSA=1&cobrandRef=0&arrival_freqCap=1&pba=adid=13226753 hope it helps

Sometimes when we start imagining what other partners would be good for someone, we take a look at the Desc - which is really the 7th House > which is Ruled by Venus > which Rules Libra, the House of Partnerships as well as open enemies.Never assume that someone's Descendant is the exact opposite Sign of their Ascendant since at times the degrees of the Cusps creates an irregular pattern. Thanks everyone, thats making it clearer. I actually like cancers...I like their home making side and the fact they make you feel comfortable. Which feels weird for my Saggie Sun that seems to want to travel all the time! But part of me does crave the security and I like to feel looked after:-) Moonshine- what is your sun?IP: Logged |

The Descendant is important as it's one of the four Angles of the chart. (The Angles being the Ascendant, IC, Descendant, and the MC) Any planetary contacts to these angles are especially important. Found this little nugget of info regarding the Descendant: 'The Seventh House or Descendant - The Seventh House deals with relationships, partnerships and legal matters. In a natal chart, this house deals with the kind of relationships the subject is likely to have, the sorts of people they try to be with, and how the subject is perceived by others. IP: Logged |

lol no prob There are 12 House cusps in a horoscope chart. The IC at the bottom of the chart and it's usually the 4th House. The ASC (Ascendant) is on the left side of the chart and is also the 1st House. The DSC (Descendant) is exactly opposite the Ascendant and is usually the 7th House. ...And the MC is the Midheaven at the top of the chart, and is usually the 10th House. Hope that helped! (DSC is the same as DC) -As far as how seriously I take the Descendant regarding relationships, I see it as one of MANY indicators of what one may be drawn to. But it's not like THE indicator. IP: Logged |

Interesting you say that AJ. My DC is Virgo, and my 'soulmate' was a Virgo. Is that what you meant? However, I have Saturn in Virgo - and that's about karmic lessons I'm told. I agree - it wouldn't be 'the indicator' though. IP: Logged |

Yeah, kind of like that. It sort of reminds me of the South Node in that sense, because it is like a longing for a long lost friend - the South Node representing the lessons you bring with you into this lifetime, and then the North Node, what your lessons are for THIS lifetime.Basically, just a sort of "recognition". Midheaven is the same as the 10th House, so, it's having to do with the career(s) which you are attracted to. So you would look at what types of jobs interest Scorpio's, and apply that towards your preferences with all things 10th House. The IC is the same as your 4th House, so when you read about Aquarius Signs, pay attention to what pertains to all things 4th House. The 4th House is Ruled by the Moon, which also Rules the Sign of Cancer. So there's your 4th House. Many just briefly describe it as the House of "family and home". Since yours is in Aquarius, you may be interested in a very untraditional home life. And/or, you may have a "disruptive" type home life, with big unexpected changes. IP: Logged |

By the way, another interesting way to look at the four Major Angles is, the 4th is opposite the 10th, just as Cancer is opposite of Capricorn. One is "inside" your home, the other "outside".Same with Asc & Desc. The 1st House is opposite the 7th House, just as Aries is opposite of Libra. One is the "me" and the other is the "us". Also look at the planet that rules the Descendant House cusp, and what sign and House it's in (and also look at the aspects it has). That may be more revealing about our relationships than the 7th House sign itself. For instance, my Descendant has Leo on it. Leo is ruled by the Sun, and my Sun is in Virgo and is in the 7th House. This means that I probably would feel more comfortable with someone as a partner with Virgo and Libra qualities (as the 7th House is Libra-like). That doesn't mean that is who I always fall for but astrologically it's who I would probably fit best with. (EDIT: My Sun is on the cusp of the 8th House and is counted as being in the 8th House too, so I guess I would probably be well suited for those Scorpionic intense bad boys too. ) IP: Logged |

Thank you for explaining that so eloquently AstroJunkie! That helps a lot! and explains a lot as well! I'd like to take a poll out there for all the Scorpio's and find out what kind of job or job's they hold. I'm a stay at home mommy at the moment and I'm going to college online trying to get my Bachelor's Degree in teaching music to little kids. I've been studying singing for ten years and haven't done anything with it, but with my degree I hope it gives me the confidence to move foward! I'm a Taurus too so I think music is the right path for me. What do you think AstroJunkie? Peace and Love

That sounds interesting dogstar. I believe that music and colour can soothe and heal. I heard also that harp music soothes people with nervous conditions and MS. Whenever I'm feeling under the weather I put on harp music and I feel instantly ok.Peace and Love

dear sparkling sag,hey there, and the answer to your question is yes, it does make a difference (so to speak) if you have a planet in the 7th house. it modifies your DC (descendant), essentially. your DC is cancer, right? and your leo moon is in the 7th house. this is important because anytime a planet is in an angular house (1st - AC, 4th - IC, 7th - DC, 10th - MC) it amplifies the importance of that planet. the moon there with cancer on the cusp no less means you probably have more than a passing need for security and comfort in a partner, even though you may not show it (with a capricorn AC, that is, if there's no interceptions). hope that helps ya! c
