Here's some specific info about the MC (from Arroyo's Astrology Karma & Transformation):

"A general guideline for understanding MC aspects in comparisons is that they usually indicate one of two dominant patterns: 1) either the person whose planet aspects your MC helps you to manifest your achievement potential in some clear way; or 2) that person quite noticeably holds you back through some form of domination from pursuing the amibitions toward which you are drawn. Since the MC is correlated with Saturnian qualities and activities, anyone whose natal planets strongly aspect your MC usually plays a strong formative role in your life, either helping you to come into your own as a productive member of society or inhibiting your achievement through authoritarian methods of influence. If someone's natal planet closely aspects my MC (esp if its a conj), I will very likely feel considerable respect for some quality or ability that that person exemplifies. I may greatly admire that person, although if my admiration is too excessive, I may unknowingly place myself under his or her power to an extent that I may later regret.....In some cases, such an emphasis seems to correlate with past familial ties wherein one person was the child of the other.

If someone's natal Sun conj your MC, you may find that that person not only encourages your ambitions and may even take definite steps to advance your career goals, but also that he or she wants to "take you under his wing" in a very paternal way. In fact, each person may feel extraordinarily protective of the other (I've found this to be VERY ACCURATE)."

Ive found any planet that closely conj's the MC or IC to have a very protective sorts family like vibe is the sun or moon is involved. The MC sign is supposedly the sign we look up to, admire etc. so another's personal planets conj that point would feel to you as if they were your destiny in a way. But this goes both ways. The personal planet person senses quite clearly that these are the traits you cherish and of course replies in accordance, cos well, why wouldnt anyway wanna be with someone who admired em so much! There is great attraction both ways (in my experience) if either the Sun Moon Venus or Mars are involved in the conj. This tends to work in a funny way it seems, in that if you have, say @ the MC @ 25 deg, but taking up much of the 10th, the attraction/admiration would be for Cancer planets conj the MC and not so much for Leo planets (but one has to take into account other planetary placements).

I am interested in knowing a little more, eg:

Moon conjunct MC and
Valentine conjunct IC

I'm sure there is something comfortable about conjunctions with this axis. But then again a conjunction with an MC is an opposition with the IC. Does that favour comfort, discomfort or attraction?

With the MC-IC axis, I think of the IC as how we feel on the inside. It's the material you're given to work with. So you have this inner nature and all the strengths (and weaknesses) it brings, and then think, ok, now what am I going to do with all this? How am I going to bring this out into the world? How should I manifest my spirit? And the way we do that is through our MC.

That's what makes the MC valuable to us. The IC is private and someone's private self could be all the positive superlatives in existence, but if it's not shared with others, other people don't get to value it b/c they don't know it exists. The MC is what to us seems like the most valuable way to bring our private self out into the world.

So when someone's planet is conjunct your MC, you can feel bonded to them right down to your IC. They are what your inner you believes is the optimal expression in the outer world. Your IC wants to grow up into the MC. (It's not so much a growing "up" though, as growing "out" since it's the internal being externalized.) So someone contacting your MC feels right to you because they feel right to your IC.

This is true for me...my moon conjunct their IC...definitely a comfortable bond between us...we're just co-workers, but a strong bond nonetheless.
