Mercury in the 12thMercury in the 12th doesn't exactly wander into the 12th house - he falls into it. And, like Alice, he finds himself in a strange land, encounterin things that are awesome, helpful and fascinating. Primarily, a 12th house Mercury attempts to build a bridge betwen the conscious and unconscious minds - to integrate into conscious awareness what is operating in the hidden depths of the psyche. This involves a two-fold process. First, those with this placement venture into the imaginal realms of the unconscious, although if they don't choose to take that initial step, it doesn't matter - what is down there will sooner or later come up to get them. Secondly, once in that realm, they must look around, take notes and then come back up again. If they get stuck down there, forgetting to return up again or unable to do so, then someone else will have to be called in to rescue them. What does this all mean? Those with Mercury here --- through introspection, soul-searching, psychotherapy, good literature, or dreamwork -- need to explore the unconscious to find out what makes them tick. Depending on the aspects to Mercury, some of what is stored there will be useful and productive and well worth bringing to the surface. However, other stuff may need to be sifted through and sorted out -- especially learned impressions and memories from the past which, consciously remembered or not, distrot and ovscure how informantion received in the present is being interpreted. In order to see what is in front of them more clearly, they will have to clean up some of the early life (or previous life?) debris cluttering their immediate perception and awareness. After a while uncollectd rubbish stars to stink. If they don't take some of that "garbage" and convert it to compost, then the dissolving action that the 12th house has on any planet in it begins to take effect: in this case the mind (Mercury) breaks down. I mentioned that if Mercury doesn't go down there, what's down ther comes up and gets them. Mercury in the 12th could suffer occassionally from intrusive thoughts of an obsessive or disturbing nature. If difficulty aspected, paranoia and the fear that others are talking or plotting against them could result. Innocent facts and people will be sistorted to give support to these fantasies. Planets in the 12th house are not sure of their boundaries. The questions for Mercury there is, 'whose mind is it anyway?'. An openness to thought sand undercurrents in the atmosphere makes it difficult to know hwat thoughts are their own and wich belonot other people. In fact, some people with Mercury in the 12th maybe so afraid of 'losing their mind' that they compensate by being super-rational, only believing in what can be statistically proven or tested. This placement also gives a secretive mind, which hides what it is thinking from others. However, if Mercury is not too badly aspected, there are psychic abilities, a vivid imagination and access to the accumulated wisdm of the past. The imaginative Pulitzer winning author, Ernets Hemingway, was born with Mercury in the Leo inthe 12th ruling Virgo on the Ascedant and Gemini on the cusp of the 10th, the house of career. The film-maker an actor Orson Welles is another brilliant talent with an expansive imagination: he was born with Mercury in Taurus in the 12th exactly sextile Jupiter in Pisces in the 10th. The often divinely inspired actor, Lord Oliver, also has Mercury in the 12th, rulinga Gmeini Ascendant and Virgo on the cusp of the 5th house or creative self-expression. I have met some people with Mercury in the 12th who are insecure about their mental abilities. It maybe that they understand much more than they are able to put into words, or suffer from learning or education difficulties. Conversely, those with mercury here are sometimes involved in helping others who have problems with speech, reading, hearin gor mobility. Whatever is in the 12th house is not just here for our own consumption -- we can often use these energies to help or serves other people. There may be sacrifices that have to be made for brothers or sisters, or something unusual about the relationship with them. The 12th house has been referred to as 'the house of self-sustainment or self undoing.'. With Mercury here, negative thinking could be the root of many problems, while learning to use th emind and imagination more positively may be just be needed ingredient to transform obstacles into blessings. Gemini on the cusp of the 12th warns that clear thinking could be obscured by unconscious emotional complexes wich should be examined. On the positive side, they can usually talk themselves out of difficulties or like Odysseus manoeuvre cleverly thorugh tricky situations. Virgo on the cusp of the 12th is prone to obsessive-compulsive thoughts Stemming froma fear of looking silly or appearing foolish, they maybe be afraid to relax and let go. Often they judge themselves against too rigid ideals of perfection and harbour feeligs of inadequacy. This sensitivity to what is weak or flawed can be turned around and used to help themselves or othes where it needed most. IP: Logged |

Interesting stuff taurean_scorpion What extreme of Mercury 12th do you usually fall into...getting lost in unconscious thought or impressions...or being "super-rational" and only believing in stats? I feel like sometimes this happens to me too, yet I don't have Mercury there.

I have mercury in taurus in the 12th. I say it it's not a very happy placement for me. I can relate to all the things said in there and esp. this: "I have met some people with Mercury in the 12th who are insecure about their mental abilities. It maybe that they understand much more than they are able to put into words, or suffer from learning or education difficulties."

My Mercury is in Scorpio in the 12th...and I have to say, my intuition and flashes of insight are very sharp and clear about people (first impressions are usually right on target...it's when I second guess what I first see in people is when I get in trouble) and also get information 'out of nowhere' about people, a knowing. I just know things.Would also have to agree too, that sometimes my knowing/understanding goes along with not being able to articulate where it originates at times, so I tend to internalize what I know, it stays 'hidden'. Merc in Cap in my 12th house!I have problems putting my thoughts in to words. Often people misunderstand what i am really trying to convey. And of cousre when reading what i have said as well. Although its hard to know how a person is trying to say something when reading it; sarcastic, serious, mean etc ... things can be interpreted wrong is what i am trying to say. Often when reading myself, i have to re-read things to understand them. Which has always been a battle for my, esp. thru school. So its a learning disability of sorts. IP: Logged |

No planet in this house is happy. Being a hidden house and karmic, placements here are usually very difficult to overcome. Check the celebs with planets in 12th house. Arent they TOO secretive? Arent they looking like they are afraid of something? Surely they are.IP: Logged |

Mercury in Pisces in the 12th...sometimes I feel like I cant talk and sometimes I enjoy just not talking, i like being quiet. Sometimes I find myself have to talk over others when I do speak becuase they always tend to either cut me off or talk over me which is very draining to keep up with so Id rather stay quiet.IP: Logged |

These natives operate like Mercury Pisces. They will misremember things theyve seen or heard. Lose keys, misplace items. When speaking will speak in a non linear fashion which confuses the person they're talking to. Music oriented, film, and picture oriented. Inspired thinking, dreams. IP: Logged |

aquarius in retrograde in 12th - i talk/think so fast that my words and thoughts stumble over each other, sometimes it's like i'm verbally dyslexic. my brain doesn't follow a linear way of thinking and i can easily jump around to 5 different topics and then come back to the starting one at any moments notice.i think i'm much clearer when i write than when i talk. Mercury and pluto in 12th house of scorpio, my thoughts and what I say dont match at times. I have strong mental abilities, I just deal with a lot of frustration always feeling misunderstood, like I didn't get my point across the way I wanted to. I'm very intense ..feel things intensly. I things hidden. Alooooooot of people trust me with there secrets. Sometimes its very overwhelming. I also heard this house relates to hidden brothers and sisters. A few years back I found I have and half sister and another is possible. My childhood has been getting to me lately and the way I do things. 12th is crazy. ehh.IP: Logged |

Mercury in 12th here..People use my words against me. Of my friends I am always the one that everyone comes to with problems because I listen and I am good at being silent. People are comfortable telling me their deepest darkest secrets and I can never escape that.. I am not personally comfortable knowing intimate details about people but inevitably, they tell me. But when I want to put my concerns and opinions into words they are misconstrued or misinterpreted. It's maddening because I am a Virgo SUN and Gemini MOON... both mercury ruled. I hate playing the role of the Miss Understood but that is exactly what it is! My life is one big misunderstanding. I am amazing when it comes to writing though. I have Mercury trine Jupiter and people tell me that I should become a journalist or writer of some sort. I just never had the confidence in myself to become one. I am still working on undergraduate degree. It's taken me FOREVER.. perhaps this placement is the reason why. IDK but this placement is not a walk in the park.. It all boils down to attitude. Are you going to be a sore loser and cry about what you've been handed? Play the victim? Or are you going to use this placement to your advantage? I think that I was brought onto this earth to learn something from this and make the most of it.. Yes, it sucks. It sucks to be misundestood and not be able to express myself in the way that I want to.. but I think that it means that I am suppose to learn to do so in a different way. IP: Logged |

I have Libra Mercury in 12th in conjunction with the ascendant, Uranus and Jupiter. I am very introspective, quiet and I enjoy studying. I also can get into movies and books that I am really interested in. I can come up with interesting insights others have not thought about. I do not like talking to people face to face and am very shy. Talking has gotten me in a lot of trouble in my life as well. But generally, I am happy just reading and thinking about stuff.IP: Logged |

What you describe about yourself, i can see most of it in me probably because i have my sun mercury venus in the 12th. I am very perspicacious when doing my interest, well about you saying talking has got you into alot of trouble that part i am not too sure but i think 12th house people has 2 sides to themselves which they usually hide the better side and/but show their other side which puts them at disadvantages they got to embrace their other side and show it out more.. ------------------ Just a water monkey gemini guy IP: Logged | |
