dear astro junkie, that's a great question. i must say that while on the one hand conjunctions to the vertex axis in a particularly spiritual sign such as pisces would probably engender a more ... how shall we say ... well, let's just say piscean (spiritual, inspirational) vibe to the connection, i don't think the sign matters in the end. it's the connection to the vertex or anti-vertex that counts. when someone touches you there, it's like whatever planet is touching it becomes NECESSARY to your growth and development. you NEED that planet to make you whole. of course, reactions to that kind of connection varies all the way around...depends on the person. overall, no matter what the signs involved are, the vertex axis seems to signify spiritual growth through relationship. more work needs to be done on this. i'm quite intrigued by it being way more important in europe -- any europeans out there who can contribute? (the astrologer i've been consulting with studied at the astrological lodge in london i believe, and she says the vertex axis is taken more seriously there.) i have a couple of links, here's one: http://www.noeltyl.com/techniques/050531.html here's some more information: The vertex is a term originated by the modern astrologer Johndro, arising from a theory (perhaps based on a suggestion made by Collin) that the existence of a magnetic field within and around our Earth postulates that there must be two Ascendants (or more properly, tow Ascendant-Descendant axes), one being magnetic, the other electrical. These might, under certain conditions, be visualized as being at right angles to each other. This alternative axis is called the vertex-antivertex axis: the so-called magnetic Ascendant is the traditional Ascendant (that is, the ancient Horoscopos) while the electrical Ascendant is the so-called vertex. Whilst it is widely recognized that Johndro's analogy, upon which this conception is based, is itself invalid, he claims to have shown (using the "known data method") that the axis is linked with involuntary actions, lack of choice, and fate. As with so many modern astrological speculations, there appears to be a chimerical basis for the idea of the vertex. This curious axis cannot hold any relationship to the Ascendant or to the Ascendant-Descendant axis. The fact is that the Ascendant marks the relationship estblished between a given locality on the Earth and a point on the zodiacal arc. The vertex-antivertex axis is the supposed expression of a relationship contained wholly within the magnetic field of the Earth: it could in no way (even by forced analogy) be described as an Ascendant, or treated as an equivalent influence, precisely because it is non-zodiacal in origin. The Vertex was discovered independently by L. E. Johndro and Charles Jayne. Johndro considered it and the Antivertex as electrostatic release points of the Earth at the birth moment, and connected them with Uranus. Jayne regards the Vertex as the most impersonal angle in the chart: the most fated, the lest conscious or voluntary, and having to do with the past (as distinguished from the Ascendant, which is the most personal angle, the least fated, the most conscious and voluntary; and has to do with the future. hope that helps. chrissy

Well, thanks for the feedback. When I started to learn here about what a Vertex WAS, I found some intriguing patterns. It kind of reminds me of a kind of recent thread we were talking about, the White Moon vs. Dark Moon, remember? Those on power trips with some nasty guards are the first I'd locate if I had a time machine ... well ... you know, that it's much easier to let the public believe that their motivation in life was to AVOID pain, rather than consciously participating in ones life to the fullest. Keep dumbing them down, and I keep the power ...Well, I just keep getting reminded of that past post almost every day since. Seriously. I'm getting ready to post some topics the Vertex and couples who seem to vibe well. Need to get some ZZZzzzz's soon ... ------------------ ... it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness IP: Logged |

Sooooo...I thought I'd bump this thread again. Based on all this info on the Vertex, what happens when someone's planet or asteroid conjuncts the Anti-Vertex?And, I have Vertex at 29 degrees Libra and conjuncting Uranus in Scorp. Since the Vertex is thought to be related to Uranus and my Vertex is at an anaretic degree, would that make it more important in my chart? It feels like it's pretty important. IP: Logged |

Hi thereI just checked the synastry of me and mr virgo (which feels incredibly fated) and we dont have the conj sun vertex but we DO have sun contraparallel vertex, so obviously parallel anti vertex... and its a tight one 15' only... Interesting bit to add to the research... IP: Logged |

In that case, what would be the effect of someone's planet conjunct your Anti Vertex? Since the Anti Vertex is supposed to represent fated encounters?Would it have an impact on both parties or would the Anti Vertex person feel it more intensely, seeing as the energy of the planet person would activate that point? Would that suggest that the planet person is able to help the Anti Vertex owner grow spiritually? Or is it a mutual process of growth? IP: Logged |

My vertex is closely conjunct my sun And my descendant. I just met someone whose sun and mars are closely conjunct (less than 1 degree)these three in my chart. His Venus is within 4 degrees of all of these. What might happen?

How does Vertex conjunct Pluto in a synastry chart play out? will it mean that the Pluto person would hurt the Vertex person since Pluto is supposed to teach some hard lessons in life?IP: Logged |

My Vertex is in conjunction with a man's Sun and My Anti Vertex is conjunction to his Moon.. He apparently doesn't love me.. I've never had anyone just cut me off like he did.. His North Node conjuncts with my Ascending and His Chiron conjuncts with my Sun.. His sun and moon midpoint is conjunction to my Venus and Both our sun and moon signs are in the highest compatibility rating.. Our Venus signs are compatible too.. I do still wonder what type of effect (having my Vertex conjunction with his Sun and My Anti Vertex in his moon) it would be.. as in stronger or canceling each other out.. Plus I always wonder if it had as big of an impact as in me, with him.. IP: Logged |

I had this aspect with a guy I once liked. I was the vertex, he was the sun. It felt to tally karmic to me, like we were supposed to be together. It felt like a strong magnet, but still nothing happened, although there was mutual attraction....I hope it works better for you than it did for me...IP: Logged |

Bump for excellent Vertex/ Anti-vertex info from @Chrissymgreen.I can relate to the last few replies here. Realizing my recent (potential) romantic interests are with others who hit my Anti-vertex. (If the info regarding Vertex as a spiritual/soul-level point is accurate, then that would be quite appropriate for the level of relationship I'd be drawn to.) One current association is Vertex opposite Vertex in synastry (as well as a hoard of other nice connections). Connection feels rare and astounding to me, but she is running the other way, after it was clear she felt a significant draw toward me as well. Confusing and sad to experience. ...Looks like transiting Sun and Karma were exactly conjunct my Vertex (and conjunct her Anti-Vertex) on the day we recently met.

My understanding of the Vertex came from extended conversations with a French Canadian astrologer who has focused on the Vertex for much of his career--in Europe the Vertex is considered a much more important axis than it is here."she likens the vertex axis to an axis of spiritual awareness, it is where we are trying to be the best of who we are at the soul level. she says antivertex connections in synastry are very intense. here's more: "This astrologer presented the vertex/anti-vertex as an alternate Asc/Desc axis. But where the usual Asc/Desc axis has to do with identity (self vs. other)in the here and now, the vertex/anti-vertex is an axis of spiritual identity. The vertex is the ascendant of the integrated self, and a place of spiritual power. This is why the encounters seem 'fated'. It operates on the level of synchronicities, and in any encounter or event where the soul is struggling towards integration. It's where we are trying to become our best self in the deepest way. What I've found is that aspects to the vertex, particularly the conjunction, bring tremendous opportunities for growth. The odd thing is that they aren't always on the surface. You have to keep your eyes and ears open, and follow your truth, or they'll pass you by. I look for synchronicities when the vertex is active, or anything that seems to connect at a deep level. From what I've seen, it's the anti-vertex that's the power point in terms of relationships. That's the place that we'll experience fated encounters. I don't throw around the term 'soul mate' but you'll find conjunctions to the anti-vertex signify deep, deep connections between people. They may not last forever, but these anti-vertex relationships always aid a person in their spiritual growth. I haven't seen enough charts to really be certain, but I have seen it active in the 'love at first sight' phenomenon. For vertex/anti-vertex I look at conjunctions only. I haven't found any other aspects to be significant." it is my understanding that the VERTEX person feels the most significant punch. i say this because in my current relationship (with someone from my past who just popped back into my life very unexpectedly) my vertex conjuncts his chiron. she says this means i identify deeply with his wounding in a very spiritual sense. she says his wound is at the essence of my being, and causes an intense identification.
so with sun/vertex i would imagine that the vertex person would be inclined to be deeply struck by the other person's self expression/ego identity. hope this helps.

I can relate to this. a few people I met have vertex conjunct my sun. when I was happy, they seemed to be upset that I was. when I was sad, they made remarks to hurt me more. and all the while they tried to appear nice in front of other people, saying that I have unstable mood, up and down without reason. there might be something else in their charts but now that you said this, I think my expression affected them deeply, be it in a good or bad way. one of them also has chiron conjunct my mars so that makes it worse. this is interesting... i have sun c. vertex exact with my bf (i am sun) and it often feels like my genuinely happy nature (think kelly ripa) bothers him tremendously. he will purposely say things to try and upset me or put me in a bad mood, or just make me feel not good about myself - sometimes it works :-( and, when i am feeling lower he does make it worse by being purposely mean. as you said, it could be other chart factors, but perhaps it is this connection? i had always figured it was the pluto-venus control issue. anyway, if it's sun-vertex, then maybe it's not such a pleasing aspect because it actually hurts the sun/planet person - not sure what the vertex person feels or gets by doing this. we have been together over a year and i can honestly say i haven't fallen in love with him yet IP: Logged |

Bump.Curious about this aspect, as I have it in Sag with the guy I'm dating. I am the sun. He is the vertex. I took a few months off from dating him to date another guy who seemed more ready to commit, as commitment was what I was looking for. He was happy to start dating again. We've been out 4 times so far. We are having a great time, but now I'm getting antsy again lol. The reason is because I can sense that his energy is pulling back. Like, when I start to actually like him a lot, that is when he stops trying or paying attention. It feels like it is because he is bored easily, which is not my problem. I just want and deserve consistency. IP: Logged |
