In spite of her youth and business inexperience, he offered her the management of his restaurant, which she handled well to their mutual credit. [paragraph] In an example where Mercury did not take the initiative, a woman had Mercury sextile the Sun of her employer. As she was reticent to assert her capacities, she stepped back from the chance to take a more authoritive position and the employer gave the job to someone else. These two people are given a clear chance to develop ommunication and understanding. There is a time when they're drawn together easily. They have an interest in each other and in the same matters. With some measure of give-aand-take, they can develop this into a close association. They must both make this effort, as he contact depends on a mutual interchange. [paragraph] There is a wide range of effect in these examples. In all the Mercury sextile Merucry cases they come into the same environment with an interst in common. But due to other factors, one or the other may not choose to carry through with an effort, or response. [paragraph] There are several close marriage and family relationships where the give-and-take was established to the benefit of both. There are also romances and friendships where the attraction and the interests in common were not strong enough to endure. [paragraph] The Mercury sextile Mercury progressions also show some ease of opportunity balanced with some necessity of effort. in one example, two women met because their six year old sons played togeter. The two women found they had the same interests and enjoyed each other's company. As their husbands were not compatible to each other, they did not develop a blended social life, but the women often had morning coffee together. With this aspect, the developed a friendship that lasted many years. In some cases, the two people did not develop any understanding when they had the chance. They both went on to other interests and environments; when they met their contact was limited to, "How ar you? Nice weather we're having." In other exmaples, both marriage and business contracts were formed on a mutual interchange of communication and effort.

Mercury at some time has the opportunity to demonstrate his love, appreciation and admiration of Venus. Mercury is strongly drawn to the vitality, courage, aggression or sexuality of Mars. There is an incompatibility in the way the two express their aggressions or energy patterns that creates a period of conflict or crisis. [paragraph] When Mercury is open, positive and direct, he will demand action form Mars, with a constructive criticism. [paragraph] When Mercury has hostility, guilt, competitiveness, lust or power conflicts, he will act in so destructive a manner to Mars as to leave nothing of value between them. [paragraph] In most of the examples between the two sexes, Mercury is sexually aroused by Mars, but there is either incompatibility in their sex patterns or there are social or circumstantial obstacles to coitus. One or the other may be married, pregnant, homosexual, virginal, impotent or promiscuous. Often there is a critical rejection of one by the other. [paragraph] In some cases the couples made the effort to enjoyable adjustment. There are a few long term marriages and many short-lived affairs that were sexually satisfactory. The marriages were most enduring in the cases where the two people had the need to express varying degrees of masochism or excessive lust together. In one case Mars was in a drowning accident. [paragraph] There are four examples of attack. In one, Mercury tried to kill Mars. A Mercury mother protected her Mars daughter from sexual assault. The other two cases were also sexual attacks, once by Mercury, once by Mars. [paragraph] In three cases Mars had an abortion of Mercury's child. [paragraph] In five cases Mercury or Mars was injured in an accident. Mercury shows hostility, resentment, and rejection. He may demand action of Mars. One couple married under extreme obstacles; the girl Mercury ran away form home and the boy Mars lost his job. [paragraph] The crisis can certainly be overcome by constructive effort. The Mercury square Mars is not desperately prohibitive to a harmonious relationship. It makes a decided directive toward an honest and energetic exchange of energy to attain positive value.

As a question: How does this aspect play out for you two, do you think it contributes to sexual attraction? Does Mercury dish out some nasty language to Mars in fights? Moreso than Mars? Thats been my experience..

You are a gem to type all these out... I have related so much to what has been said....So many times, Mercury translations are just a couple of blurbs. And although they help solidify.. they , in many cases, can tear you apart...

We have Sun mutually aspecting Mars in synastry.. This is the sexual attraction...

Our problems are outlined here:

I am the mercury.. We do not fight.. He just totally ignores me....He just doesn't put forth the effort...Effort, effort, effort... this is spread through all of these interps.... No effort = no relationship...And yes, when backed in a corner, I can be nasty.... but i never take it too far... he has mars sq. uranus natal and its not a pretty site when his temper blows... He has just plain igored me for the last couple months.. he knows i hate it...We are just hanging there...
As soon as I personally decide to let go, he'll be back around... its like he knows just when to reappear....

Mercury is strongly drawn to the personality of the ASC, but there is an obstacle of incompatibility in disposition and attitude. [paragraph] When Mercury makes the effort to understand asc he can build a constructive and intimate exchange of affinity. [paragraph] When Mercury has prejudicial attitudes and inflexible habits he may find nothing of value in the contact. [paragraph] In some cases Mercury has such respect and affinity for ASC that he broadened his own viewpoint in their development of exchange. The give and take of two distinct personalities enriched them both. We have this illustrated with a student and teacher, a mother and daughter, with business associates and friends. Mercury reaches an understanding ot identification with the Sun for certain goals and interests held in common. They share some degree of integral character that is meaningful to both.
