Does anyone know if the Placidus system is more accurate than the Koch system. I have using Koch for years, but most people use Placidus. When I use Placidus my ascendant is about 9 degrees away from where it is with Koch. Also with Koch, sag and gem are intercepted, whereas with placidus, I have no intercepted houses. Thanks a lot.IP: Logged |

My guess is that Koch is the more accurate. I base that opinion on it being more modern. It seems like Koch was interested in improving Placidus.I'm surprised your ascendant moves that much with a simple house change between these systems. IP: Logged |

AcousticGod you were correct to be concerned about it moving that much. My astro program didn't calculate the time zone correctly. It didn't move that much (as you thought), but I do have intercepted houses now. I think the Koch system is more in line with my life than placidus, but everyone uses placidus nowadays. I think I'll continue with Koch. Thanks.IP: Logged |

I recommend that, once you get a grasp of the basics, you experiment by running charts in both systems for a while. See which works best for you. I think that some systems work better for some types of minds and others for others. One exception: I do not consider equal house a valid system at all. I know of no one who gives equal attention to all 12 areas of life--and that is what equal house implies. ------------------ You are a blessing and you are blessed. Rev. P.S. The Ascendant and Midheaven should remain the same in all systems (except on will be off in equal houses). If they are not, there is an error in the calculations.IP: Logged |

It is not about which is more accurate...it is about the type of a native's personality. Most people live under the Placidus system, these people are influenced by their environment, society; they try and live in accordance with common rules and norms; they can be compared to Librans or sanguinians; People that live under the Koch system are loners by nature (though it may not be apparent) they are the ones that actually influence society and other people, they have their own system of values and they will do anything to survive or/and succeed; they can be compared to Arians or cholerics; The Equal system is mostly used for psychological not event desciption of the chart; Planets in signs = how, planets in houses = where; I agree with Rev. Alice and don't use it at all either. The Jamasp system can be applied when drawing the charts of yogis, spiritual leaders, mediums, psychics; The Regimontanus system is usually used in elective astrology, especially in the charts of catastrophes, sudden disturbances etc; Btw a native may switch from one house system to another depending on what's going on in their life and how they deal with it; My 2 cents IP: Logged |

This confuses me alot...My chart changes ALOT using Koch.....Placidus: Saturn in the 2nd 7th house holds: Pallas Jupiter Vertex Stellium of Ceres, Sun, Merc Venus 8th house: Juno Pluto Uranus Part. Fort. So if thats not enough to wrap yourself around... if I use Koch or Equal it changes to: Saturn in the 3rd 7th house: Pallas, Jupiter, Vertex 8th house Stellium Sun, Ceres, Merc. Venus Pluto Uranus Juno Part. Fort. That is a big difference....I wouldn't know where to start with all that in the 8th...

Q: where can you get electronic access for koch and placidus on the net? Astro.com presumably only does placidus with the geocentric -western-tropical setting. IP: Logged |

To Peri I found your comments about Placidus and Koch quite interesting and perhaps they explain something. Although I normally use Placidus, occasionally intuition tells me to switch to Koch for a particular chart. Thanks for the explanation. I never heard it before. AliceIP: Logged |
