Does anyone of you have any experiences with parallels and contraprallels in synastry? I know that Magi Astrology use parallels and contraprallels a lot, but I'm not a big fan of their theories. However, I do find the general concept of parallels and contraparallels quite interesting. But I'm not quite sure how to interpret them ... Could you interpret a parallel similar to a conjunction and a contraparallel like an opposition? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!!! IP: Logged |

My general approach to parallels and contraparallels is to treat them like conjunction in either case, but not as intense. It's not just Magi astrology that uses them. Declinations are being used more and more nowadays. So expect to see more along these lines. IP: Logged |

*bump* I have started to do more research with parallels/ contra-parallels in synastry. This guy and I (I like him, lol) have a sun-mercury opposition (double-whammy) and sun-mercury contra-parallel (double-whammy). I think contra-parallels are like oppositions but not as, 'negative'...actually, it's really how one chooses to express it. Oh and...he has his BML (Black Moon Lilith) parallel to my Venus. I wonder how that would 'play' out...and his Uranus is contraparallel to my Venus (his Venus also forms a 'square' aspect to my Uranus). I just thought it was interesting how 'parallels' and 'contra-parallels' "play" out. I don't have many paralles in my own natal chart (only two 'minor' ones). However coincidentally, my own venus is ontraparallel to my Uranus (also forms a quincunx aspect), my Eros is parallel to my moon (also forms a trine aspect), mercury parallel to my North Node (also forms a conjunct aspect), and Juno parallels my Sun (no other aspect formed in natal chart). Just felt like 'bumping' up this topic...heh. One paralle1 me and my mother have is saturn parallel saturn which is in conjuctions as well. We both feel extremly responsible for the other and not in the best of ways, guilt runs rampant in the relationship. My mom and father have pluto parallel pluto there life together has been both binding and Explosive. The life they had together has at many times brought them into very dark places. they also have (her)mercury contra-parallel (his)saturn(conjunct). Early in there marriage he was very emotionally and verbally abusive he's gotten better at it but its still there. (his)chiron parallel (her)saturn through out the course of there life together she was been utterly and completely loyal to him. doing every thing in her power to change him for the better, but she never went about this sweetly she did it with all the frustration of saturn. he's has ended up a better man because of her. the parallels they have seem to project the over tone of they're relationship. It would be interesting to see if this was true of other charts. IP: Logged |

Wow... I mean, sorry I still find all this new information fascinating. Really, I do love all this 'new wave' ('uranian') astrology methods...heh.I'm wondering, how this would work in composite charts. hmmm... It is the 'third entity'...the chart of the relationship itself; so it should count somewhat. IP: Logged |

Hadn't thought of the 3rd entity (composite) being used with declinations. I wondered where the really strong sexual attraction between my lover and I came from, his venus squares my mars but we also have venus contraparallel mars. Then theres the midpoints, lol.I've also come to the conclusion parallel is like a conjunction and contraparallel is like an opposition. It makes sense to me and if there are aspects in both regular and declination charts wouldn't the effect be stronger? My opinion anyway, I'm self taught and drawing my own conclusions from lot of this stuff! IP: Logged |

"I've also come to the conclusion parallel is like a conjunction and contraparallel is like an opposition. It makes sense to me and if there are aspects in both regular and declination charts wouldn't the effect be stronger?"^ I'd like to think so...like it's supporting the aspect that is already there. heh, don't get me started on midpoints...too much...but yet, I always include them. hah, addictive astrology at that. Self-taught is always good too; who knows what 'break throughs' one might make. IP: Logged |
