After thinking about it, I'm going for See-Saw for TG Cusp. There's two distinct groupings on either side of the chart, even if they are widely spaced, with the Moon heading off in Aquarius. There are two Taurus/Scorpio oppositions, one of them involves personal planets on both sides -> Mars Scorpio opposing Venus in Taurus. There is another opposition with Mercury in Taurus opposing Saturn in Scorpio.

Stare at them hard enough and Lara's looks similar, but I'm going to agree with her on Locomotive. Although there is the Aries/Taurus on one side full of personal planets, on the other side there is a scattering of outer planets widely spaced, with Libra not represented. There is only one opposition on the chart, with Mars and Neptune - one of those scatterings of outer planets. All the planets are within 240* with a 120* gap between Sagittarius and Pisces, so that satisfies Locomotive.

I think the train is setting off early from the station, Lara. You're the first class compartment. The carriages must have spread out a bit over the ending days of April 1968. I'll think about it as I try to nod off, some insomnia problems here this evening, lol.

Blue Moon.

could I ask your opinion of mine. I cant seem to figure it out.. because it could fall into a couple of different categories.. I think either see saw or locomotive.. perhaps even a splay.. Ive been reading my Parkers Astro textbook as well as the online interps and I cant come to a conclusion there not specific enough. like my locomotive because it has all the planets in two thirds of my chart. but not necesarily following eachother.. Ill see what you think.

First thought I had was Splash.

Locomotives have all their planets in 240* of the chart with 120* left empty. That doesn't happen here.

There's an even spread between signs - all elements are there, there's cardinal, fixed and mutuable present. There's 5 signs without planets, but two of those are represented by the ASC/MC. That sounds more like Splash than Splay.

Splash suggested a well-rounded, well-balanced person.

But you are right, some charts aren't that obvious and so this part of interpretation isn't as helpful as when it jumps right out at you.

This is mine, btw.

On http://www.myastrologybook.com/tripod-splay-planetary-pattern-astrology.htm they call it a Splay/Tripod and have strict rules including saying an Opposition must not be present.

But being a Splay, I make up my own mind I think it fits Splay best. But with a less dramatic interpretation than given on their page. I'm no genius and I know it.

These writers suggest using a mix of charts in that case:
http://www.astrococktail.com/planetaryorderIII.html

But on here he goes for a bit of hedge-betting:
http://www.sabian.org/SabQ&A.htm

and this sensible advice, "If you still can't fit your chart to any of the types then take the one closest to it -- but be sure to keep in mind that the distinctiveness of the typing may well be lacking in the person."

A useless splash. "Jack of all trades - master of none". Totally agree with that.

Why is it that when looking at your own you can't decide on what it is, but with other people's it looks clear and obvious? Can anyone see clearly with mine? I can't settle on what I think it is. All help appreciated. Thanks

Blue Moon,

thank your for your interpretation.

I hope I am doing this shape justice as your friend does.
Well, actually I think it`s not too bad that Saturn is the handle.
He is quite unaspected otherwise (even though he has an exact quinkunx to Moon and exact trine to Juno), but him being the handle places some importance on him, I guess.

Actually, I can relate a lot to that placement of Saturn in Cancer in 8th house. This is probably very much, how I appear to be to other people. Despite all my Sagittarius - 1st house energy I am extremely careful, anxious, cautious, responsible and probably more sensitive than sometimes is good for me.
And I am worrying much too much. PRobably this is also a way to express this Saturn. Worrying about everything and relationships, family, romantic and sexual relations and death in particular.
Constant source of unsettlement, unease and worries for me. And very much in the centre of my thoughts.

DD

23 ~> that's a beautiful Mystic Rectangle contained within your Splash chart ~ not my idea of useless!

vmulberry -> I think it's more a Bowl ~ it's not in 120* so it fits this better than a Bundle, and it's on one side of the chart

Alanbelle -> thanks, you've solved my question about my niece's chart ~ hers is like yours, a Bucket with a Moon handle sitting waiting to be picked up!

I beg to differ..

I think mine might be the locomotive cause I looked at examples and they didnt have to be continous. the unoccupied signs were spread out.. and there is 4 signs that I dont have any planets in which equals 120 degrees.

Mmm, carriages that don't join the part of the train with the locomotive get left behind. I think the passengers might be complaining about this one.

Really you need a third of the chart empty, that's the point of the description 120*. Adding it up doesn't really have the same effect. With the same principle you could have a Bowl shape because adding up different parts of the chart makes 180* empty - but it wouldn't resemble a bowl in anyway

I don't know what anyone else thinks?

look at the examples for the locomotive like nicholas cage.. he has his locomotive spread out.. Ill admit I could feel like a splash cause I do consider myself very well rounded.. but I also feel I have unlimited funds of energy (locomotive) besides the examples for a splash I have seen have planets all occupying different signs.. I have two signs containing two planets each. the rest are generally close to one another though.

I've got a bucket shaped chart, with the Moon in Aries in the 5th as the handle. I think that's interesting, because even though I would say that the overall planet placement in my chart is not terribly "emotional" the moon is definitely a driving factor in my chart. In fact, I have an easier time figuring out people's moon signs upon meeting them than I do figuring out their sun signs, and I think that's because I come at people from a feeling level first, if that makes any sense.

In any case, interesting discussion you've got going on here. I haven't done a whole lot with chart shape, but I've been meaning to get a couple of books on it.

vmulberry, I think your chart is either funnel or bowl. I would say bowl because all your planets are almost in half the chart. But I don't know if chiron is taken into account for chart shapes. If so, then your chart would be funnel. Hope that helps.

Mine's about as easy as it gets to identify. The only factor that complicates it is whether to include Chiron. Without Chiron, it's a bowl. With it, a bucket.

I don't know, Seeing Stars. I was looking at the splay, but that opposition was throwing that off. I definitely have two groupings, and three or four are on their own.
