This always seemed like an odd combination and for some reason I feel that I have never really gotten my head around it. I can only think of two people (both male) with this placement. Both were I guess very neat, that's all I could really say about them. The rest of their personalities were strongly determined by their sun and moon from my observations and there didn't appear to be any defined quality about their mars. I guess its important for me to know as part of my 5th house is falls in virgo and one many years ago fuelled my fire to speak. So, question is, what is your experiences with the possessors of mars in virgo? What have you noticed about them?

Hurrah! One of my favourite astro-topics. A while back I realised I know many people with this placement and I have learned to love it and to appreciate the detailed sense of artistry it brings. Some of these anecdotes are repeats of things I have said before on LL, but maybe they will be a little bit helpful. The one thing that stands out for me with this placement is that of the people I know all have some innate sense of artistic refinement that will come out somehow. Examples: * Sun/Mercury/Venus in Cancer. Moon Sag. Mars in Virgo.
Takes a lot of pleasure in making her home environment as pleasant as possible. A part-time hairdresser, she says the first thing she notices about people is their hair. She's also studied beauty. Beauticians will tweezer out the last hair on your leg that the wax didn't rip away. It's that kind of attention to detail, making the job as perfect as they can. Of course she is like this, too. Good at drawing, likes to do cross-stitch. Everything is neatly executed and well-presented. Likes things done her way, not much room for manoeuvre on this. * Sun Virgo, Moon Pisces, Mercury Leo, Venus Cancer, Mars Virgo
My childhood friend. Together we spent hours colouring. He was younger than me but was better at staying in the lines. He didn't really like playing outside in mud with the other boys. And he didn't like food with bits in it. It used to drive his mother mad. Always well-groomed. "That's good", I remember once saying about his drawing after his brother had made him cry. "It's supposed to be", he said. We are still friends. He is now a professional photographer. I have some of his work on my wall. He isn't precious about his artistry but he does have high standards. It goes with the turf. * Sun Libra, Moon Sag, Mercury, Venus, Mars in Virgo.
She was very modest when I said she was cultured and refined. But it is true. She visits high-brow exhibitions about painting, pottery, art, history of art and can discuss in and make it interesting to a peasant like me. She's an older person, from an age where she wouldn't have been encouraged to head for art school. But you can see artistic talent spill out in her hobbies. She does a lot of dress-making for friends. There won't be a stitch out of place. Everything is neat and exact. I like sewing but her work table is nothing like mine, there won't be bits of material thrown around everywhere spilling onto the floor, that's for certain. Not very flexible as an individual. There's a proper way of doing things, sometimes that means deciding what is best for other people which can be annoying. But she's a Libran at heart, she does it with the intention of making things better. High standards. No way would she go out and buy something from a cheap store. Everything has to be quality. Bit of Libra coming out there. * Sun, Mercury in Leo, Moon in Aries, Venus in Cancer, Mars in Virgo.
This is my mother. She left school at 14. No-one would have bothered sending her to any kind of college, let alone art-school. She says she would have liked to have been a window-dresser in a large shop. But it was a throw you down the local factory number for Mom. One of my friends is a professional artist and asked, "who drew that"? when he saw a picture left lying around my house. I told him that it was my mother, playing with the kids. She has untapped talent. She arranges flower for the local church. She says she isn't really that good, but someone asked her to do their wedding. Let loose she could do some great landscape gardening. Very knowledgable about plants and gardening, all self-taught. Sometimes she gets bogged down in details. She starts doing things a certain way, and finds it hard to adapt a task when it is taking a lot of time and be more lax. She drummed in personal hygiene when we were kids. I've never known any take so much care with their teeth and oral hygiene. Unfortunately she was malnourished as a child (war-time) and they aren't very strong. She is detail orientated, but she can be negative and look at all the problems and obstacles in something. That is probably her Leo combo rearing up. If it wasn't her idea, she will find some way of putting it down. IP: Logged |

When we don't live up to our own expectations of who we should become, we'd rather hide from the rest of humanity forever ! Which is a shame really. I had some health-related issues due to my workaholism in the past which sort of helped me realize that I needed to pursue a goal/career which would make me spiritually content. Which would be a career in the Arts I'd love to be a teacher in the future as well.I do get incredibly nervous when I'm idle, and I do find myself in situations where I don't know where to begin/go on with a project because I have to do it in a certain way for it to be perfect. Once I start procrastinating, that means the job will never be done on time. It will be very late- but it will be perfect So I hate deadlines. IP: Logged |

I have Mars in Virgo and so does my ex. (My chart is here: http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/018960.html) "When we don't live up to our own expectations of who we should become, we'd rather hide from the rest of humanity forever !" I can definitely relate to this. I find this placement uncomfortable, like it hurts my willingness to follow my heart and move forward unless I'm perfect. Which of course, nobody is! As I get older I'm learning to ease up on all the expectations and pressure and just experience my life and have a good time. Re: deadlines, my ex had a problem with procrastination that made him feel awful. I am the opposite--I've never ever been late with anything, ever. (Blame Cappy rising as well as Virgo Mars.) Lucia- you are so lucky to have dealt with that issue and that you don't have a procrastination problem !Mars in Virgo has another influence on me as well, I think. It tricks me into believing that if I analyze a person/relationship long and thoroughly enough, I can make it work forever It makes me think that I can truly satisfy a person's friendship/lover needs if they would just let me. I'm never ever aggressive about it though. If you say No to a Mars in virgo person, they will get out of your way and never return. But the exact same trait also causes one to linger&waste time on relationships/issues that are just stuck and won't go anywhere from there. IP: Logged |

Odd combination??I'm a "tree" person -- I don't see "forests"..... The energy is in the details: the nuts and bolts have to be precisely fastened in order to build anything of lasting value, dependability or beauty..... If I don't do something creative at least occasionally, the pressure builds up to explosions in other areas of my life..... I occasionally drive fast and love the feeling of speed (Mars in the 1st). I'm a fixer. Some areas of my life are completely organized (work, files on computer), others are totally cluttered..... IP: Logged |

Maybe it'll help to have some public figures in mind who have this placement...Actors: Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Kevin Spacey (two-time Oscar winner), Michael Caine (also a two-time Oscar winner), Hilary Swank (same as Spacey & Caine w/ Oscars), Peter Sellers, Will Smith, Hugh Jackman, Judi Dench, Eva Green. Musicians: Jeff Buckley, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Tom Waits, Eddie Vedder, Thom Yorke (Radiohead), George Michael (Wham! ) Artists: O'Keefe, Monet, Cezanne Creative Writers: Hemingway, Emily Bronte Misc.: Nietzsche, Heidegger, Barack Obama, Napolean, Lady Di, Mother Theresa, Gene Kelly ...no, probably doesn't help. I've known one guy with Mars in Virgo (Sun, Moon, Merc, Venus in Libra). He was pretty neat, he'd organize everything into neat little piles... but then you'd see his bathroom and EW!He was a huge fan of hygiene (at least in himself). He'd brush his teeth like 10 times a day. And he SHAVED HIS CHEST. TMI: In sex, he wasn't very into being dominant (actually he liked equality so much we'd do it sideways... which made me lol in my head because HELLO Libra stellium). He also suggested doing it in the shower a lot (but in my experience, all guys want to do it in the shower). Um... he also didn't like to chase. He instigated the whole relationship (he saw me at a party, we didn't talk at all the whole night but i caught him looking at me a few times and then he Facebook messaged me a day later), but I had to be the one to be like "Okay so are we going on a date or what." One of my more verbose moments. quote: And he SHAVED HIS CHEST
Grounds for divorce. A Virgoan friend of mine (Sun, not sure about Mars) confessed he hops out of bed and goes and does the ironing. Now I am older and have a large ironing pile that makes me feel depressed, this sounds infinitely more attractive than it did at the time. IP: Logged |

i have mars in virgo and must admit that it i too couldn't get my head around this placement either! the perfection thing is spot on. i've related to most of the comments made on other mars in virgo natives and there's a bit of me in all of them. i may not have the lofty expectations of a virgo sun person when it comes to hygene but i do get rather annoyed at habits that can result in making people sick...not cleaning spills/plates etc properly. hehe... yes, when it comes to cleaning i expect people to THOUROUGHLY (though not overly, uneedingly) complete the task. same goes for weeding and gardening or any menail task...cross the t's dot the i's. it's the only way to do it as far as i'm concerned. which is another thing...i will come up with systems to make tasks run smoothly and efficiently. i am VERY particular about such things and if i work with people who just can't get that, i get kinda wild! my suns in leo. venus in cancer, with a sag asc. I have this. I think it's partly responsible for my loooong posts. And I edit a lot. But I'm also anal about my editing process--I'll allow myself only so many edits before I tell myself "Enough!" and force myself to leave a post alone, even if I see mistakes still in need of fixing. So I'm anal about being anal! I think my Virgo mars also contributes to me being strategic. I've been called sneaky many times. (And many of those times it wasn't as an insult. ) The natural way I take action in life is to think of the outcome I want and then plan the best course to reach that. I can definitely see Mercury's influence linked with my actions. It's not just thinking about which actions will best lead to a desired result, but I also think about what the potential consequences will be of a contemplated action. Fortunately I have Mercury conj Uranus, so I can think fast and am not frozen in contemplation when asked "do you want fries with that?" I can relate to the perfectionism thing too. I already mentioned how that plays out with editing posts. In my life though, my perfectionism isn't focused so much on the details. I want a certain outcome, and the details are merely the tools to help me achieve that outcome. Sometimes the details can be off, and I can still reach the desired outcome. I consider that a success. On the other hand, even if all the details were executed perfectly, I wouldn't be satisfied if I didn't get the overall goal I wanted. For instance, back in college when I'd write papers for a class, my goal was always to have an original idea or gain a deeper understanding. I wanted to experience that high that comes with discovery. If I didn't experience that while writing the paper, I considered the paper a "waste" even if the form of it (all the Virgoan details) was perfect. I can forgive technical imperfections much more easily than a lack of meaning or purpose. So I guess my Sag sun overrides my Virgo mars? I don't know. It's probably much more complicated than that. Two of my oldest and closest friends also have their mars in Virgo. We were all born within 2 weeks of one another, so we have very similar charts. One thing we have in common is how our minds hold on to inside jokes or experiences we've had together and then efficiently reference those memories when we're together. People have commented that it's like we're speaking our own language because we have so many code words. This isn't just a case of friends knowing one another for a long time, because I have other friends who I've known as long and that private language thing isn't as pronounced with them. Ah yes, I too have mars in virgo . I can relate to what you all are saying hehe.Specially I notice I'm very particular about cleanliness and hygiene, specially on myself. I drive myself nuts with it. Everything has to be just so - perfectionist moi? Also everything has to be done a certain way, and when it comes to tidying up and things, I hate anyone else's sloppiness- I'm like do it properly or not at all hehe I'm gemini sun, cancer venus with Leo asc. Someone make me do my "homework"! Speaking of deadlines, I almost always do assignments at the last minute. Fortunately, most of the time I make the deadline. Part of my reason for procrastinating is my Virgo mars--I need the "perfect" idea before I start. And like twentytwenty, it has to be something that moves me. It has to excite me. I think that criteria comes from my Moon-Uranus square. And I think this square also contributes to me doing work at the last minute, because I suppose a part of me thrives on the adrenaline rush that comes with having to work fast. At the moment, I have something I need to complete by tomorrow night. I've been "working" on it every night this week, but most of the time I've actually been slacking off and visiting this site instead. I thought of some other Virgo mars things... --Independent study. When I was a little kid, just for the heck of it I would research a topic and then write up a report on it. I remember the first time I did this. I was about 7. My family had just bought a new encyclopedia, but not the whole set. Only the letter "A." ("You whippersnappers are so spoiled nowadays. Back in my day..." ) So I sat down with it, did some research, and wrote a report. When I was done, I proudly handed it to my mom. The report was on abortion. --I love making schedules. Back in college, I made my friends' course schedules. They'd tell me what classes they wanted. I'd research the available professors, narrow down the classes to the best professors, and then make the final choice on the best times. I really enjoyed doing this. I still do things like that now. If anyone needs a schedule or itinerary made up, it gives me great pleasure to do the job. --Regular exercise. This started when I was very young too. There was an exercise program on tv that went on at like 5:30 in the morning. Until my family moved out of that area, I woke up every weekday to do the routine. I was about 8. Most routine in life doesn't come naturally to me, but I really love being physically active every day. I value it for the clean feeling it gives me, it feels like it exhausts me of everything but what's essential. IP: Logged |

Hello,I have Mars in Virgo. My ninth grade teacher told me it wasn't necessary to make my handwriting so perfect. I was very neat as a child but now I'm not very neat because I'd rather study astrology than clean the house. I'm very hygiene-conscious, however. Leonine Ox IP: Logged |

This is not mars related, but my BFF (Virgo rising, Virgo moon) had problems in high school because she'd start things and then scrap them because they weren't PERFECT. So she never got any work done ever. IP: Logged |

amowls - That's sad. Virgo derives much pleasure from being productive. So her inability to complete work must've been devastating for her. I may sound hyperbolic using "devastated", but I don't think it's an overstatement. I have a pretty strong Virgo influence (Mars conj Jupiter; NN, Saturn), and I hate feeling unproductive for too long. I hope she's been able to recover from whatever damage her high school experience did to her self-perception.IP: Logged |

Thought of something else. My Virgo mars loves working with other people who also pay attention to the details. Like I said before, I prioritize the big picture. But the details are important to me too, because I like for the final product to be coherent, with the details supporting the main theme. So a few months ago I was working with someone. He was being very particular about how he wanted me to work, and as he was instructing me, in my head I was loving his attention to detail. It was the first time I was seeing that side of him. Eventually, he stopped and said, "I'm sorry to be getting so anal." And I said, "No, don't be! I love getting anal." IP: Logged |
