I thought the 9th house was the house of grandparents?

No, I think it's an interesting topic. If mother/father = 4th & 10H, where are the grandparents [especially if they play a really important part in one's life]?

Generally the grandparents and all forms for kin (siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles) that aren't your parents are in the Third house.

Does family history and love of history in general belong in the 3rd? Because that's really my kind of thing and I have Mars in that house.

Fourth house represents our roots, heritage, and family history.

No. Family history and history in general is ruled by the 4th house. I love history as well. Mars rules my 4th house (Aries), and it is exactly opposite my Moon in the 8th (legacies). Check aspects to the 4th house as well as the 4th house ruler and planets within the 4th house.

For grandparents:

I usually look to Saturn (elders) by placement and aspect, the 1st house (4th from 10th) and the 7th house (4th from 4th). I've found it works quite accurately.

My paternal grandmother's (1st house, I consider my father representative of my 10th) natal chart is very similar to mine despite being a Pisces Sun/Taurus Moon. We actually have many placements (exact to the degree!) that are the same. I look exactly like her physically, and she passed many years before I was born. My chart ruler, Jupiter, is in Pisces conjunct her Sun. Saturn conjuncts my Ascendant (paternal grandmother) from the 12th which I interpret as though I "lost" my grandmother before birth, I still feel her "presence" has had a strong influence on my life.

My maternal grandmother is a Cancer with the Sun conjunct Pluto (exact), Virgo/Libra Moon. However, her chart is littered with Gemini (Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter). My DC (maternal grandmother) is Gemini. Mercury is in Scorpio and the only aspect is a wide Venus conjunction.

My Mums Mum is 7th house. 10th (Mum) from 10th (Mum)
My Mums Dad is 1st house. 4th (Dad) from 10th (Mum)

My Dads Mum is 1st house. 10th (Mum) from 4th (Dad)
My Dads Dad....is easy to work out from using the above.

Cousins are Parents brothers child.

My Dads (4th) brothers (3) child (5) is:
3rd from 4th = 6th for my Dads brother (uncle) and then 5th from 6th (uncle) = 10th for my cousin.

Long way round but it works.

Deleted Chart!

It didn't help me to find out where my grandparents belong to.

First of all: I have found Arabic Point for grandparents in my 9th house. Uranus is also sign of grandparents (I think so).

Here is my story:

My grandparents (from father) have immigrated to USA, PA long time ago. My father was born there as a second born son. As at home here in Europe was nobody except grandfather’s sister he was brought by his mother (four year old) to his aunt. Grandmother went back to PA and had another four sons.
She wrote regularly, has sent money and clothes as long as she lived. My father died 1955, 6 years before her but she has sent money further on.
What here is more important: my mother's father left his wife (mother's mother) because he was in love with other grandmother and all three went together to USA.
Neither my father nor anybody from us has ever heard or seen any of my uncles and less their children. I have somewhere my grandmother's photo with the youngest granddaughter from oldest son.
With 25,5 years I met my American fiancé (from CA) in abroad. He has tried to find somebody from them but without any success. We both went apart (later), because I didn't get papers for USA.

In fact I am only curious about anybody of them. My South Node is in 3rd house, so I am not very lucky with my relatives. I am luckier with totally strangers.

p.s. I think that my grandparents made great SIN and I am the one, that pays all.

In my Natal Chart I can see now clear how my parents have died. All is possible going through the houses.

I have always wondered why I meet men without children (most of them are much younger than me): my partner is 7th. His 5th house is my 11th: there is nothing. In fact I don't like strange children.

Now I think that is really Neptune in 12th: Neptune - I have never seen them,
12th house - they lived overseas.

Where are my cousins and nephews?

I like "walking through the houses"

Alanabelle was right about associating Saturn with grandparents, you have to be careful with that, though, because if you're born at night Saturn represents your father and you can't really use that for your grandparents then.

12th house - they lived overseas.

The Twelfth house isn't associated with overseas, that's the Ninth.

quote:
Where are my cousins and nephews?

Third house.

Hi Sei no Senshi,

9th house is Sagittarius house what means abroad (it can be neighbour country).

12th house is Pisces house and is overseas. I study that because of people living overseas as also people marrying somebody from overseas.

3rd house are my sisters and brothers (don’t have brother).
Cousins and nephews can't be in the same house as the sisters.
