sabian symbols are meaningful to me.

if you focus on the sabian symbol with the planet or point in mind, you can see how the meaning of the degree differ if it's associated with one planet or with another. also, one interpretation can be completed by another. there had been many interpretations. i've come across 4 or 5 different versions.to me, the most reavealing is Ellias Lonsdale's book. i've also noted that they worked in pair with their opposite. say you look at 10 pisces, u should also check 10 virgo. i learned astrology as it came to me, some bits of this, some bits of that but sabian symbols have given me more understanding of my inner working than many other astrological tools. they'vze got their own flavour, for example i realised that some degree appeared to me as negative/ often the 13th degree of each sign seems to carry some negativity, 19th also. i found out later that those degrees were considered as bad by many people. my only insight of this was therough sabian symbols. for example, if you take my mars, it's 12'06 of virgo. in the version found on the web on mindfire.ca the definition seems positive, suggesting a social role:

(VIRGO 13°): A POWERFUL STATESMAN OVER-COMES A STATE OF POLITICAL HYSTERIA.
KEYNOTE: The focusing of the collective need for order and structural interdependence into a personage who incarnates the answer to this need.

but in ellias lonsdale's book, the definition is somewhat more irritating and probably more appropriate. the degree is called: a man with hair on his back. and the definition is about being partisan, even too much, and about creating more trouble than necessary.

those who read some of my post here on lindaland could agree.... if they dare.

i need to precise that i was a pain in the a*ss before to read this definition for my mars.

if u want to know lonsdale's interpretation for one of your degree, list it. for me it wasn't the ascendant or sun's degree which made immediate sense, because i realised later that i was living those main symbols. they were so much a part of my views on life that i couldn't really single them out. but it was more immediate when i checked the degree for my name asteroid, or for a specific asteroid.

Praecipua,

it`s a nice offer you made here.
Could you maybe look up for me the 17th, 21st and 22nd degree of Cancer? It`s the Sabian of my Saturn, my Eros and Vertex.
Thanks.

Also, Sabians are very interesting for the natal charts, but I wonder if we can apply them to synastry and composite, too?

For examply I`ve been looking at a synastry where the guy`s Lust and the girl`s Soma fall both onto 25° Scorpio, the exact degree of their composite TRUE NODE.

I thought this was interesting, and maybe the Sabians would "illustrate" such an exact conjunction? What do you think?

Sabian Symbols work with aspect orbs too

Over a year ago,I bought a book
called

Sabian Aspect Orbs (Astrology: a Language of Life) (Paperback)
by Robert P. Blaschke (Author)

http://www.amazon.com/Sabian-Aspect-Orbs-Astrology-Language/dp/0966897811

Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Volume II in the Astrology: A Language of Life series is a marriage of technique and symbolism illustrating a radical new approach to aspect interpretation using the Sabian Symbols to define relationships between planets. The core premises are 1) there is no empty space in the Zodiac, meaning every aspect's separating orb touches the next aspect's applying orb; 2) the essential meaning of any aspect lies in its degree of angular separation and corresponding symbolism; with the planets, signs, houses and dispositors serving as agents to carry out that symbolic intent; and 3) different applying or separating orbs depict a very specific symbolic meaning for your planetary aspects, while the symbolism for the exact Zodiacal degree of any aspect helps to grasp its core purpose. Waxing and waning distinctions, applying or separating variations, and direct motion vs retrograde considerations are explained. Major, minor and esoteric aspects, along with their derivative counterparts are included.

About the Author
Robert P. Blaschke, owner of Earthwalk School of Astrology in Portland, is a full-time professional teaching and consulting astrologer. Past-president of both the Oregon Astrological Association and Washington State Astrological Association, and past National Coordinator of the ISAR Professional Astrology Speakers Bureau, he has lectured at regional, national and international astrology conferences in the U.S. and Canada, and has been a requested speaker for several local astrological associations. For years he has taught classes at community colleges, various bookstores and at his own astrology school. His articles have appeared in The Mountain Astrologer, KOSMOS, NCGR memberletter, The Journal of Astro*Psychology, Geocosmic, Astraea Astrology, Réalta and other publications. He is also the author of the critically acclaimed Volume I - Progressions.

I got 2 more books

A Handbook for the Self-Employed Astrologer (Astrology: a Language of Life) (Paperback) http://www.amazon.com/Handbook-Self-Employed-Astrologer-Astrology-Langua ge/dp/096689782X/ref=sid_dp_dp

Relationship Analysis (Astrology: a Language of Life) (Paperback) http://www.amazon.com/Relationship-Analysis-Astrology-Language-Life/dp/09668978 38/ref=sid_dp_dp

If you have an aspect orb that repeats a theme by a natal planet in zodiac sabian placement, it's a strong theme

I also find that if you combine the 2 sabian symbol planetary placements and their aspect orb, it can really tell a vivid story about the aspect.

The author uses sabian aspect orbs with not only natal charts, but synastry charts, composite charts, secondary progressions, transits, solar arcs.

the same with sabian symbol planetary placements too.

darkdreamer, regarding the pertinence of sabian symbol in composite and synastry chart, i can't tell cause i haven't checked it for myself and the object of my affection(we are not together and i don't want to spoil the fun more than i've already done by imagining how the relationship would, should or could evolve.) it could be that i'm too egocentric to learn something which has no positive use for me or i already know too much about his chart and part of my life lesson is actually to take life as it comes instead of trying to avoid the traps (my prenatal lunar eclipse was in pisces: let go and let god).

anyway, what i mean is: i don't know about sabian symbols and composite chart.

ok, back to our subject:

cancer 17 (16'01-17'00)
A woman working busily at a spining wheel.

Trance states as natural evolution. being inside the inside, yet staying under and weaving a web in time of remembrance and forgetfulness and remembrance. Deeply involved with the personal, yet coldly detached from whatever does not serve. persuading, teaching, invoking, insisting that what comes next, comes next, that we must get on with the dance. this is a penetrating sensibility which finds what can be brought forward and fosters it all-pervasively. the collective voice of conscience at her post, attentive and scrutinizing. A void in terms of letting everything be, and an immense force to follow the thread of growth and development all the way through, catching every stitch.

cancer 21
High up on a mountain an eagle's nest.

Heritage and birthright, the soul inheritance. being granted a belongingness, an attunement to rarefied worlds. consciousness triumphant. Maintaining the Crown vista of universal essentials, u are imbued with natural wonders and treasures. Wakeful, vigilant, and clear. You have superlative faculties of sifting through and finding what we all need to see here. Remarkably untouched by personal limitations and distortions. Called upon to uphold the truth and knowing it. Serene, focused, and unsentimental. diving right to the place where the goods are. Impeccable skills used under constraint. the finest accompanies each breath. The mark of previous karmic attainments of the highest kind. Resuming where you left off, steady, sel-assured, and righteous in the best sense. beyond reproach.

cancer 22
Bunches of watercress growing by a cool spring.

Spacious. making room for worlds to be born, new life to arise, the fount of existence to be tapped, the center of things to become vital again. a global sensibility, a universal dream, a brotherhood/sisterhood vision to repopulate the world with vital, fresh beings, to find the place insidethat is sustaining and renewing and to giveit forthabundantly. a certain spirit of destiny breakthroughs-something different previously unsupected. Diving for the eternal waters, and herethey are if they are called in at full power. the one given the task to refocus the shared aspiration to bring us all together. You have an utterly engaging quality that cannot be denied once it fully arises, with the most memorable of touches and looks. the presence of the Great Goddess force at every level, accessible if dreamed up and invited in. the cracking throughat the peak time and place. all is revitalized. everything forgotten comes on the spiral to the next octave and is released into the celebration of being.

i must say 2 things. first all, not all the degrees sound that good. also the author was a bit of a poet and used some metaphors, maybe to loose the one who's not ready. there's a need to meditate on the degrees. that's how they reveal their true colours.

voila.

Thank you, Praecipua,

yes I thought they sounded not that bad as I had feared after your introduction.
I also feel a deep resonance to those rather poetic description, but I have to let it sink in a bit to be able to fully grasp the meaning.

My Mars at 13* to 14* degrees of Aqua is a train entering a tunnel.

Nothing like a ride on a chuffer, is there?

The ones I got are really odd...I don't identify with any of them.

Sun in Libra(11 degrees)
Miners Are Surfacing From A Deep Coal Mine

Moon in Cancer(9 degrees)
A Large Diamond In The First Stages Of The Cutting Process

Mercury in Libra(1 degree)
The Transmutation Of The Fruits Of Past Experiences Into The Seed-Realizations Of The Forever Creative Spirit

Mars in Cancer(19 degrees)Venetian Gondoliers Giving A Serenade

Ascendant in Cancer(14 degrees)
In A Sumptuous Dining Hall Guests Relax After Partaking Of A Huge Banquet

and the oddest one by far was my MC in Pisces(23 degrees)
On A Small Island Surrounded By The Vast Expanse Of The Sea, People Are Seen Living In Close Interaction

Hmmm...very very interesting

------------------
Sun in Libra
Moon in Cancer
Jupiter in Cancer
Venus in Virgo
Mars in Cancer
Ascendant in Cancer
