Aj, I love Jeff Buckey too! The cd "Grace" is awesome. He has one of the most haunting voices I've ever heard.

Yeah, that cover he does of Cohen's 'Halelujah' is amazing... I almost have to laugh when he holds those notes as long as he does. Sucks that he died.

Elliot Smith is another one of those incredible, haunting voices, dead before his time.

Have you "guys" ever heard (or heard of) Jeff Mangum and Neutral Milk Hotel?

I'd never heard of either until I just sampled their music. Here's Elliot Smith -

And here's Jeff Mangum & Neutral Milk Hotel

HSC: don't know of many men that do like Ani- with the exception of my father, who has been obsessed (literally) with one of her albums for about a year now. I know her style isn't for all. Not all of it is for me, either.

I chose eightdegrees because my moon is 8 degrees of cancer, and a lot of people very close to me seem to have planets at 8 degrees of a water sign as well. What about your name?

One more thing: AJ or HSC, can you recommend a good PJ Harvey album or song?

All the above - and I just read an interview with Polly in one of those cool oversized mags with her on the cover with short hair and pink shoes.

I'm not into buying expensive singles or imports, I have like maybe two in my whole collection (one is McCartney & Wings) - but if you're not used to her sound, I think it's cool to start with her most recent and go backwards. The further back you go, the less "refined" a sound she has. She's more punk/rock, sort of ranting.

Start with "Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea", then "To Bring You My Love", then "Rid of Me" <<<<< that's going backwards.

Heart,

Wow! I haven't visited this stream for days and wham! so many posts... hmmm

It seems we have two distinct camps in this forum. One for and one against. In the spirit of goodwill, I don't think people really mean to pass judgement, as much as just being concerned for your well-being.

All in all, "To each his/her own". Whatever works for you may not work for another.

Good luck to you in finding what you are looking for.

Miss Muffet

Food for thought...
Usually, we seek a partner who is an outward representation of ourselves; someone who manifests all our good qualities (minus the bad). If we don't know ourselves enough to start seeking a partner, we end up looking for all the wrong qualities in a mate... This I speak from experience.

Eightdegrees -

That girl never even responded to my email.
Cold.

I haven't even really heard the last two PJ Harvey albums. I've been so broke and out of the loop. Definitely need to get back into music...

I like the first three albums, esp. Rid of Me. The 4-track Demos "album" is good too... it has a song I really love, called "I Can Hardly Wait", which isnt on the other albums. 'Rid of Me", "Rub 'Till it Bleeds", "Highway 61 Revisited", "Man-Size", "C'Mon Billy", "Down By the Water", "Send His Love To Me", and "Dress" are some more of my favorites.

I highly recommend Jeff Mangum "Live At Jittery Joes", which is probably listed under Neutral Milk Hotel.

Unfortunately I have no planets at 8 degrees in water.... My Jupiter is at 8 degrees, though, in Leo, in the 7th.

"Heart-Shaped Cross", for me, brings up associations to Christianity and the idea of love and suffering as transformative - also the old "heart-shaped box" thing (oddly, a nirvana song title, too --- my favorite band). And the idea that a cross is more than its shape. I'm also very abstract minded, so, all in all, the name gives a good sense of me, i think.

Miss,

Interesting points.

Heart Shaped Cross -

I'm so passionate about my favorite musicians. I very very rarely buy CD's from the store, rarely pay more than $8 per CD, and have picked up many for 50 cents, etc. I'll get'em at Pawn Shops, Garage Sales and Used at Amazon. Don't forget to peruse areas area from the city. You'd be surprised what you find.

If you like the psychology of Polly, you'll love Fiona Apple, another with strong Virgo influences. Again, I'd suggest going from most recent to older stuff.

I'm aware of such "connections" between seemingly unconnected symbols in life, and we all know what THAT means ... we've been contacted.

I love Fiona! I've always found her lyrics to be very Scorpian though...

"you say love is a hell you cannot bear; I say give me mine back and then go there, for all I care."

I know - or like the song "Carrion" -

"... My feel for you, boy
Is decaying in front of me
Like the carrion
Of a murdered prey
And all I want is
To save you, honey
Or the strength
To walk away ..."

BUT my beautiful Fiona has -

Sun - Virgo
Moon - Virgo
Mercury - Virgo
Venus - Leo
Mars - Cancer
Jupiter - Cancer
Saturn - Leo

But as you know, the girl's pure rage is justifiable...

"And it's a sad sad world, when a girl will hurt a boy just because she can."

I like Fiona a lot - what I've heard, at least.
She's friends with (and dated for a while)one of my favorite writer/directors, Paul Thomas ((P.T.)) Anderson (Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love).

eight -

Thanks.

On a somewhat related note, I was thinking of Punch Drunk Love today.
"Fun-gers"
popped in my head.
Someone should really do that.

Yeah, I knew she'd had a good stable relationship with that director for a long time, saw them together I think it was on some award show on TV, but I always wonder if they are still together. If she's still on heroin, etc. Do you know?

Dont know about the habit. I think she dated that "magician", David Blaine, for a while, but I know she's not with him anymore.

There's a little black spot on the sun today
It's the same old thing as yesterday
There's a black hat caught in a high tree top
There's a flag-pole rag and the wind won't stop

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

There's a little black spot on the sun today
(That's my soul up there)
It's the same old thing as yesterday
(That's my soul up there)
There's a black hat caught in a high tree top
(That's my soul up there)
There's a flag-pole rag and the wind won't stop

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

There's a fossil that's trapped in a high cliff wall
(That's my soul up there)
There's a dead salmon frozen in a waterfall
(That's my soul up there)
There's a blue whale beached by a springtide's ebb
(That's my soul up there)
There's a butterfly trapped in a spider's web
(That's my soul up there)

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

There's a king on a throne with his eyes torn out
There's a blind man looking for a shadow of doubt
There's a rich man sleeping on a golden bed
There's a skeleton choking on a crust of bread

King of pain

There's a red fox torn by a huntsman's pack
(That's my soul up there)
There's a black-winged gull with a broken back
(That's my soul up there)
There's a little black spot on the sun today
It's the same old thing as yesterday

I have stood here before in the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the queen of pain

queen of pain
queen of pain
queen of pain
I'll always be queen of pain...
