If, for instance you would want to begin with the Rider-Waite Tarot Cards, the standard for learning Tarot, you will notice there are two Arcanas, first the Minor Arcana that deals with every day life experiences, and next, the Major Arcana which will deal with Soul issues. You will learn how every Suit represents an element, such as Cups (Hearts) which represents Water and deal with feelings and emotions. Swords (Spades) represent Air and deal with conflicts, etc.
Every Court Card represents a different stage of an adventure. For instance, Page would represent the beginning of a wave. King would represent the breaking and rolling of a wave.
The Page is someone embarking on an adventure, starting something new. The Knight is a person who has reached physical maturity but who lacks seasoned wisdom, etc.

Number 7 is the God number, showing the knowledge of structures and how it all comes together.

So you can see there are lots of intricacies. More than any other discipline, Tarot teaches Spirit. The Tarot Cards represent your spiritual journey. The real magic is not in the cards, but inside yourself, inside your heart. It's the God/Source within communicating with you. Anyone can learn, but those who master their own connection with Spirit will be a master of interpreting the Tarot. In the same way, Tarot can help you master your connection with Spirit.
The Tarot only shows possibilities to consider, it should never be considered advice set in stone or outcomes unchangeable.
A reading is only meant to show potentials, the same way as astrological transits. You still have to make your own choices to experience life in the way that you desire.
