What makes them work? Yes, belief is ultra important. Also, the time and effort you put into the spell helps. Practice helps. The right day/hour/herbs all help.

The Glamoury I posted has been very effective for me. I haven't done any love spells in a long long time because they are tricky and can be manipulative if not done correctly (of course some people don't mind being manipulative but I do ) But spells to bring love into your life are effective and won't harm anyone!

I'll look up some things for you.

Thanks, Amber. Yes - I agree with you on not manipulating others. I have enough bad karma to deal with and don't need to create more! Simple spells are perfect...since I'm a novice. However, others here will love the really intense ones.

Thanks!

Speaking of spells.....

The Native Americans have one which is so taboo that I should not even speak of it here....but it's called......the bear walk...

...and I can't say more....except to say that is it not good...

Violets!

Best Timing: Full Moon, Monday

Take a handful of freshly plucked violet buds and toss them haphazardly in front of you while thinking of romance and they will fall into a pattern that suggests the name or initials of your future mate. This spell can be enhanced if you do it in the face of a gentle west wind.

Yarrow

Best Timing: Full Moon, anyday

This spell is manipulative so it's up to you if you want to use this one.

Custom says if yarrow is beneath the matress of a couple while they make love, that they will become soulmates and their love will last eternally. Bathing together in water where y arrow is scattered will help bind you to one another so your souls will recognize each other when you meet again in another incarnation.

From SilverRavenWolf's book "HexCraft"

Have you ever met a person who just seems to hate you at first sight and does his or her very best to ensure that your life henceforth is miserable? What is really amazing is that you think you would really like that person if he or she didn't hate you so much.

Take a brown clay or enamel bowl or jar and fill it with brown sugar. Sprinkle the top with basil (known to cause sympathy between warring factions). Write the person's name on a piece of paper and bury it in the mixture. Draw a solar (equal armes) cross in the misture and put a brown candle in the middle.

Thine cussedness I will overcome
In days of nine with the setting sun
I'll have thy friendship in my hand
Through thick and thin it will stand.
I choose not to harm but to heal the wound
Love comes now by the Witches' Tune!
So be it

House protection!

From A Victorian Grimoire by Patricia Telesco

Tie dill, nettle, yarrow, and ivy together by a string and hang it somewhere in your house to ward off evil intentions. Protection sachets may be made by assembling the following things: a silver coin, some basil, bay, fennel, tarragon, deill, and rosemary. Bind them with white thread and hide them somewhere in the house where they will not be disturbed.

To make a protective wreath for your home, gather several branches of rosemary and tie them together with green yarn (or any other colour which cymbolizes protection for you). Fill out the wreath with additional pieces of rosemary as needed, and place a decorative bow at the top or bottom. It you wish, add other protective herbs to the wreath, then hang it on your ftont door saying "Bonds of power, bonds of light, grow strong, protect, defend against all who would rend"

Here is something really simple. If you want a certain person to respect you, write their name in black ink on a red peice of paper, and stick it somewhere in the east area of your room. This is actually from a feng shui book, but it seems pretty magical to me!

To the top!

Yes, spells do work as long as you believe in them. It's all about moving the energy of your thoughts into reality. Everything else such as candles and oils are there to move the energy along.

I'm sure you have one of those crafty shops where you live. If not, then you can order a bunch of stuff online. If not, you can make everything yourself by being creative and knowing what would be a good substitute.

Lately, I've been trying to invent a spell that will help reinforce protection. I want to use a charmed ring or bracelet to put on, when I don't feel like meditating. Plus I think it's a fun thing to do once and awhile.
Anyway, I'm trying to find a nice gold or silver ring to use. Gold would be preferred but silver is good too becuase it's more affilated toward protecting you from evil.

Once I got that, it will be on the Waxing Moon on the 3rd day of any month. Moon in Cancer will be greatly prefered. (Waxing means that it's growing into the full moon.) Then I will draw either a pentacle or cross on the floor in a sacred area.

Then I will take 1 or 4 new candles and light them around my pentacle or cross. I will take a bowl of salt, water, and incense to represent the elements. But before I do all of this, I have to meditate and feel very confident in myself, which is the hardest part.

After I do all of this, I'll probably sit down indian style and say my favorite prayer and ask the archangel Micheal to be there for me. Once that is complete I'll begin chanting words needed to inforce the spell. As I'm chanting I'll stick the ring over all of the elements represented.

After that's done I'll will visualize all of the energy pushing into that ring and then bind the energy so that it stays there. To bind the energy you can take a white string and tie 3 or 9 knots around it. Including the chanting and the needed visualizing. I'll leave the knots there until the candle/s burn out. Then I'll feel confident that the energy was contained when I remove the knots.

Now I'll finally rest, take my ring, and wear it. If the spell was a success, then the ring will be like wearing a bullet proof vest, in terms of spiritual protection. It should help negate, or bounce the harm, that comes to me. If not it'll just be another lucky charm. But I'll probabley charge it every once in a while. Of course this is only an idea, I haven't really done anything yet. But I was hoping I would help someone else. As for Karmic Spells I haven't invented any of my own but I'm sure there are plenty of others who have and are willing to share.

P.S. Actually bracelets would be better preferred becuase it would act more like a guantlet.

chanting a desire to ordain whatever whilst using your Chi and putting yourself in a reki like trance to see how things are to be done, dedicating alot of your energy or Chi to ordaining it, in other words, sacrificing part of you to bring about what it is you are after
thats a general rule, can be used for dark or good deads, although if you want to live alot longer id use it for good, dark spells are so dull and boring

Nice thread! I'm not a Wiccan but I do believe in spells and I would love to start doing some. At the moment I'm not comfortable about joining a coven or anything like that, I'd rather work solitary and do nice and protective spells as the need arises. I'm wondering how important it is to have all the right herbs and doing all the rituals - if you believe in the words enough and your intent is powerful, is that enough? I really want to learn more about this!
