May your discernment be truth, 26. "Perform your duty equipoised, O Arjuna, abandoning all attachment to success or failure. Such equanimity is called yoga." IP: Logged |

This isn't a quote, but this song inspires me to an unfathomable degree. The video is nice, too. Sigur Rós

My pleasure! When I bought mine, only the hardcover was available but it was well worth it. It's available in paperback now. I've been reading the version I have of the Gita and it is such a unique book! I'm reading the commentaries just so that I can understand the stories a bit more, but I'm interpreting the events for myself. I've even been chanting the mantra day to day and it helps me maintain God in my consciousness better than anything else I've tried. It's a transformational experience! Thanks 26! P.S. Sigur Rós makes me cry, too. In a very good way. Please don't tell anyone! IP: Logged |

Hi! Yes, the Gita is incomparable to anything I've come across. However, I'm finding it goes hand in hand with Tolle's book - already a favorite of mine. I'm impressed with his book and level of awareness. He's a master at teaching one how to spot the ego - it's manueuvers and tricks (it's so sneaky!). How to get to the root of our dysfunction and transform. I'm re-learning alot of things i've let slip. It's the same kind of skill you will learn from the Gita and other ancient religions and spiritual traditions.Yes, chanting mantras can help to begin a sea change in ones life. Sound and focus are so powerful! And they can be just as effective when intoned silently. Over time the mantra will become a part of your being's song. P.S. Your secret is safe with me. IP: Logged |

26,I think we hijacked this thread! LOL. Oh well. It's not our fault everybody stopped posting more quotes... When you finish that book, we should start a thread about it. It will help keep us in check and from readily forgetting the major themes. I've kept chanting to myself all week and the magic of it really increases through each use. The power of concentration is really something! I have not gotten any further on the Gita, though, for lack of time. "If it can be verified, we don't need faith.... Faith is for that which lies on the other side of reason. Faith is what makes life bearable, with all its tragedies and ambiguities and sudden, startling joys." -Madeline L'Engle

Hey, maybe we should get a room! No, it's not our fault people stopped posting, this thread was kind of a dud anyway and this forum is generally slow. That's a great idea about starting a thread on the book! Here's my new sig.: ------------------ "Three things in human life are important. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. The third is to be kind." ~ Henry James IP: Logged |

Well, then I choose this to be our room until given otherwise. I think ListensToTrees already started a great thread for discussing A New Earth. I've read the posts by you and HSC there in Universal Codes and I am responding to them after I write this. Excite! Your sig makes me wonder about the meaning behind the word kind in 'humankind', 'mankind', and its presence in 'kingdom', 'mockingbird' and 'dickens'. This sounds really arbitrary, but I assure you I could write an essay on how this comment relates. IP: Logged |

Thank you for pointing that out. I didnt even think of the other thread already going on. I believe you could write an intriguing essay on the relatedness of that word within those words. 'Oh the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are -- chaff and grain together -- certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.'-- Dinah Mulock -- IP: Logged |
