It's been a few years in which I've studied magic. So my knowlegde is a bit rusty, but I do remember knowing that magic is inherent within everyone, and if you believe in that magic, then whatever you wish will manifest. Magic can be created for a good will or for a bad will. Some people have made magic a religion but there is no need for that. Magic is created in the astral realms of your imagination where you can lift a pencil up in the air or heal a very sick person. It supposed to defy explanation because it's above the material realm. The power of your thought is what makes magic manifest. All you need is faith! When you have faith you can do all kinds of things for whatever reason you have. Levitation can be done by saints and by demons, when it comes to power, it can either be positive or negaitive. So with that in mind everybody has the power to defy explanation. For instance, a good wiccan is a person that cares deeply about nature and treats others equally. When in deep need she only uses magic to help herself or especially others. She uses her magic defensively to protect herself and her loved ones. She's a healer and a psychic. She knows how to use wisdom before magic. All in all she follows the path of love and she uses nature to celebrate that feeling of life. She doesn't close herself off to other perspectives and ideas. It's simple, magic is very good when you harm no one at all. But for those who do, will experience there own negative energy threefold, even if they have protected themselves because that is what the force called Karma does to you. -StarLover

May I butt in and suggest some books?Anything by Starhawk She is rather "oldschool" but still worth the read.... Silver Ravenwolf's books are cheery, easy to understand, and great for beginners and inquisitive souls... I recommend the book "The Great Cosmic Mother" by Monica Sjoos and Barbara Mor highly. Its more of a historical thesis on the essence of Nature religion, its roots, and is VERY detailed. However, it may turn some people off because it is VERY anti-patriarchy, and can be shrill at times. Pauline and Dan Campanelli write some great books about how they apply pagan traditions to their lives ("Ancient Ways" and "The Wheel of the Year") As for as applicable info for rituals and the uses of gemstones, candles, herbs, oils, and colors for magickal acts, Scott Cunningham, published by Llewlynn Press, has GREAT books. Like I said, sorry to butt in, but I love nothing more to recommend good books to people.

I agree with the Scott Cunningham recomendation ! Although to be honest I studied for so long, and it was only when I stopped reading and began looking at myself that I really understood what it meant to be a witch. IP: Logged |
