I found this letter dated 6/21/67 and wanted to share it with you folx:

"Just a few remarks regarding the origin and history of the Order of the Eastern Star: It is strictly an American organization--A sideline society of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons

It is a family institution admitting to its membership only the wives, mothers, daughters, sisters and widows of Freemasons and master Masons. It is a ladies organization. Of its 18 stations but two of them of necessity require brothers. (Brothers in general are regarded as guests.) Its very existence is based upon the Masonic Order. Then what is Masonry? Some claim it to be a religion, others that it is a selective, secret social organization. To its adherents it is a Divine principle in action whose foundation is the word of God--also named the Great Light. This principle is the Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man

The first sentences recorded in the word of God state 'In the beginning God created the heven(sic) and the Earth and darkness was upon the face of the deep and God said let there be light and there was light(spiritual understanding)' This light is still fighting its way, overcoming darkness(ignorance, superstition and sin.)"
- Mrs. Dorothy Jones, Johnstown Colorado

Thanks, dafremen. I've been wondering about these ladies since somebody (don't remember who) made a post about them a while ago.

Actually, I'm being sponsored into the organization through a friend - my grandfather was a Mason (you do need a familial masonic affiliation to get in).

My understanding is that one of the only other requirements is that you believe in God.

They do charitable work pretty much, that's it (from what my friend has told me).

I would love to hear what you Gma says about it Prox.

Dearest Dafreman,
Eastern Star is not American,My grandmother is very much Eastern Star and she lives in Scotland, Freemasonry ,Masons , Knighs of the Templar (Camelot) I will try and remember books i have read... Hiram Abif is one . But I can tell you that here in My area we have the very historical Roslin Chapel...and it is an exact replica of solomons temple.. There is an area which is hollow underneath there said to contain the Holy Grail, and scientists, and theologists from all over the world have been trying to excavate there... to no avail it is a protected area!!! well anyway the connection is That the first ever Mason was Hiram Abif and he was important in construction in Solomons temple he is refered to as Hiram in Bible hope i put you on a little quest and find out all about A LAND CALLED SUMMER love carina

Welcome carinacare

My geneology is from Tongue Sutherlandshire, Scotland. That is how it`s spelled & punctuated in the family bible but is probably incorrect, yet I`m sure you know what I mean

Thanks for clarifying that matter carinacare.

I was aware that the freemasons supposedly started in the area of Scotland sometime in the early 1700s. Apparently Mrs. Dorothy Jones (the lady who wrote the letter) was not. I imagine it was very important for her to assure whomever she was writing to that it was "an American organization" because at the time (1967) everyone was all paranoid about Communism and China was one of the major Communist "enemies".

Thanks again for the info. I'm looking forward to learning more from those of you that know more.

Love,

daf

Eleanore, happy to bring it up.
I remembered the thread immediately because that conversation brought up a lot of childhood memories.
Tink stimulates a lot of memories in me

Hmmmm. Good ones I hope.

If I may be so bold, what sort of childhood memories? Did you dabble in this sort of thing too juni? Your opinion is most respected. By the way, Rule by Secrecy is 3rd down on my list of must read books. I'll get there. Thanks for the tip. Sounds right up my alley.

Hi Eleanor! I just found that Rudolph Steiner thread again. I had forgotton about it. Would love to further discuss it with you. I don't know anyone else who has read Rudy. I'll post there later.

Oh yes Tink Memories that have lain dormant and rekindled like re-membering the 3 kind generous ladies of the Order. They passed on many years ago, but I hope others re-member them for the beautiful, if unconventional, souls they are.

Just one of many

There is also a little village next to Rosslyn named Temple and the Knights Templar are buried there.. they didnt take their secrets to the grave with them. But it does sound like they stashed something in Rosslyn Chapel..and being exact replica of Solomons Temple the shape must be important (very) Incidently I just found out yesterday after a (coincidental conversation with an old friend I had no idea knew so much about Rosslyn) The Shroud of Turin is supposedly the shroud of the Apprentice who built a pillar in Rosslyn Chapel.. he was murdered... Turin just got a mention on telly this second !!!!ok football but hey!!! do do do do do do do do
(hums twilight zone theme to myself)
It is very intresting stuff!!! and it seems never to end those threads..ad infinitum.. Im going to TRY and sleep now ...
Love Carina

Interesting info, carinacare. Thank you. I can't say I know much of anything about the famed Rosslyn Chapel, but it seems to come up often enough when researching the arcane and esoteric. Surely something is up over there. I have no doubt the Holy Grail is somewhere in Great Britain. Whether Glastonbury or Rosslyn, I don't know.

Quite pleasant to speak to someone from Scotland. I've had a fascination with the country for many years. I once saw a painting of your King James IV. Nearly went into a trance. The King and Margaret Drummond are a mystery I would dearly like to solve. Interesting lexies on their names.

Cool Tink
LOL I'm reading "Rule by Secrecy" right now, as a matter of fact. I'll also be checking into the Rudy thread soon.
This is also a very interesting thread.
I've also been intrigued by Scotland since I was little, but I must admit I've never gotten around to learning much about it. Sounds beautiful, though.
