hi everyone!! i was recently asked to do a research paper for my english class at university, the topic being anything i picked so long as i had an opinion on it and that opinion was arguable. so naturally i chose astrology, since it was the first thing to come to my mind, and also because it's one of my favourite subjects in the world.so i went up to my english teacher after class and said ' professor, i want to do my research paper on astrology, my opinion being that it is a valid science and art'. he smiled, raised his virgo eyebrows in critical appraisal (i'm pretty sure he's a virgo,or at least has heavy virgo influence in his charts) and said 'and how are you going to prove that?' i smiled back and said 'well,i'm going to use numerous books and websites as secondary research material, and maybe take a few well-known public figures and show how accurately they potray their sun sign charecteristics'. 'sounds ineteresting' was his answer. so i wrote up the proposed topic and included another one of my brilliant uranus ideas in it. and that idea was to draw up a questionnare on attitudes towards love, money, family, etc and get people (many people) of different sun signs to fill it up, then divide it into twelve sections (according to the sun sign of course) and show how most people will tend to possess 8 out of 10 charecteristics of their sun sign.this questionnaire was what caught my eng prof's interest the most.'i really like your idea of the questionnaire you are going to use' he said, 'because i'd like to see you prove it' he ended with a smile. i smiled back, but inwardly my aries ascendant was already bristling with indignation at his skepticism.but my aries asc and sag moon also love challenges, and this certainly was one!and here's where you all come in my fellow knowflakes...i can't do this alone,i need help!what do i need help with?well i was thinking my knowflake friends could help me think up questions for the questionnaire...and also help me out by filling it in when i post it on the web . it's all in the name of astrology my friends!i hope i'm not asking too much so...looking forward to your responses..love n peace... -Gooober p.s. i've also posted this topic on two other forums 'free astrology course' and 'for the pilgrim's progress', just to mak esure no one misses it..hope randall doesn't mind.. ------------------ the rain goes pitter patter, pitter patter.. my brain is all in a scatter... you don't mind? then i guess it won't matter ;) IP: Logged |

Good Luck Goober. Sounds like a fascinating project, and I hope you ace it! Now, I am an Aries with a Cappy moon, so I have a bit of the pragmatist in me. So I have to say I'm not sure you can 'prove' that Astrology works; at least not enough to convince the conventional scientific mind. There are so many shades of grey in astrology, so many things that color our Sun Signs. An astrological chart is an extremely complex animal, and is open to much interpretation. Take a look at the presidential race---every astrologer has a different prediction, based on different aspects that happen on the day of the election and in each candidate's chart. In fact, Rule #1 is: Astrology indicates, it does not compel. Meaning that what you are given at your birth is what you make it. Rather than try to prove astrology works via personality, it might be more compelling to 'prove' astrology works via events. I can remark more on this if you like, but it is still murky waters. You will have to find a way to prove that the progression of the stars in the sky has a direct affect on every individual on the planet. What we believe, and what we can prove, can be different things. Science is based on probabilities, it's true. But scientists like equations that always seem to turn out the same, like 2 + 2 =4. On the other hand, not every person on the planet born at the exact time of Jeffrey Dahmer is a murderer. I'm not trying to discourage you! I'm trying to give you the ammunition you need to make your case. IP: Logged |

Sounds like a cool project. It's kind of hard for me to randomly throw things out that you might find useful, so why don't you toss us some questions you'd like us to answer specifically. And, do you want to know only our Sun Signs or do you want to take our Moon Signs and Ascendants into consideration, too? Best of luck! ------------------ "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Ghandi IP: Logged |

well trillian, what you say is obviously true, but remember what linda said in her intro of sun signs?the very thing that i'm saying...everyone will be stamped with at the very least a few characteristics of their sun sign,so i hope to get some positive results... eleanore, as much as i would like to throw in the moon sign and asc,it would complicate things immensely, but i'll still sit on that idea for a while... and thanks for the encouragement randall love n peace... -Gooober ------------------ the rain goes pitter patter, pitter patter.. my brain is all in a scatter... you don't mind? then i guess it won't matter ;) IP: Logged |

i've thought of a few questions, but i wanna make up a whole questionnaire and give you guys a chance to edit out the bad stuff. actually my work load has increased a lot since i've got mid terms coming up next week, but after that i'll be focusing on this completely. i've also considered eleanore's idea of using the moon sign and asc and decided that i'm not gonna use them when making up the questions, but i'm gonna ask you guys to provide them anyway so that i can show that when someone isn't acting like their sun sign,it has a lot to do with their asc n moon sign. how do you liek the idea randall?IP: Logged |
