I found this book about 2 years ago, and could not put it down. It's a story about following your dreams. Probably the most influencial book I've ever read. Anyone else read it? ------------------ LibraRising CapSun AquaMoon IP: Logged |

*bump*------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. I have read a book "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. is this the same one, about a shepherd boy and his travels------------------ quote: All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibraton. We're all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death. Life is just a dream. And we are the imagination of ourselves. Bill Hicks.

It's one of my favourite. Paulo Coelho's best work till date i can say."The Alchemist", is an exciting novel that bursts with optimism; it is the kind of novel that tells us that everything is possible as long as you really want it to happen. That may sound like an oversimplified version of new-age philosophy and mysticism, but as Coelho states "simple things are the most valuable and only wise people appreciate them". As the alchemist himself says, when he appears to Santiago in the form of an old king "when you really want something to happen, the whole universe conspires so that your wish comes true". This is the core of the novel's philosophy and a motif that echoes behind Coelho's writing all through "The Alchemist". And isn't it true that the whole of humankind desperately wants to believe the old king when he says that the greatest lie in the world is that at some point we lose the ability to control our lives, and become the pawns of fate. Perhaps this is the secret of Coelho's success: that he tells people what they want to hear, or rather that he tells them that what they wish for but never thought possible could even be probable. It's a must read for everyone here in LL.

"Because it's not love to be static like the desert, nor is it love to roam the world like the wind. And it's not love to see everything from a distance, like you do. Love is the force that transforms sand improves the Soul of the World. When I first reached through to it, I thought the Soul of the World was perfect. But later,I could see that it was like other aspects of creation, and had its own passions and wars.It is we who nourish the Soul of the World, and the world we live in will be either better or worse, depending on whether we become better or worse. And that's where the power of love comes in.Because when we love, we always strive to become better than we are."The Alchemist Page 158 IP: Logged |

Paulho is one of my favorite authors, The Alchemist is his masterpaice but have you read The Valkeries, or The Zahir, or The Warrior of The Light. the last one is more of a book of wisdom than a novel.he's amazing! IP: Logged |
