Ask Me anything. Anything. I will contrive to bring you the answer. The whole universe will I use to do this. So be on the lookout. This book is far from My only tool. You may ask a question, then put this book down. But watch. Listen. The words to the next song you hear. The information in the next article you read. The story line of the next movie you watch. The chance utterance of the next person you meet. Or the whisper of the next river, the next ocean, the next breeze that caresses your ear—all these devices are Mine; all these avenues are open to Me. I will speak to you if you will listen. I will come to you if you will invite Me. I will show you then that I have always been there. All ways.

I meant to come back here - will do so later. My computer is messing up on me.

I'm just sharing this, because I'm acquainted with the author, and she's giving the kindle edition of her book away free, today. I bought the regular version last week, but it has yet to ship, for some reason.
http://www.amazon.com/Hope-Dies-Last-Lessons-ebook/dp/B005NWS8KE/ref=zg_bs_154793011_21

It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I like her writing.

I originally stumbled onto this site not knowing anything about her, so I've decided to read her books!

This book is breaking my heart, but it's also the best I've read in a long while (that I can remember), aside from Little Women. I've almost finished The Book Thief, and it had me sobbing. One chapter to go.

Is that Barbara Kingsolver? The Bean Trees was my favorite book when I was around 18.

Just finished We Are All The Same, by Jim Wooten, about AIDS in South Africa, and a little boy with AIDS who was adopted by a crusading white woman (who went on to establish more than one care center for people with HIV/AIDS.)

It was really good.

Here is a three minute documentary about the boy (who was an Aquarius): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_63bD3taew

quote:
A phenomenal worldwide bestseller for over thirty years, Richard Adams's Watership Down is a timeless classic and one of the most beloved novels of all time. Set in England's Downs, a once idyllic rural landscape, this stirring tale of adventure, courage and survival follows a band of very special creatures on their flight from the intrusion of man and the certain destruction of their home. Led by a stouthearted pair of brothers, they journey forth from their native Sandleford Warren through the harrowing trials posed by predators and adversaries, to a mysterious promised land and a more perfect society.

quote:
Watership Down has been a staple of high-school English classes for years. Despite the fact that it's often a hard sell at first (what teenager wouldn't cringe at the thought of 400-plus pages of talking rabbits?), Richard Adams's bunny-centric epic rarely fails to win the love and respect of anyone who reads it, regardless of age. Like most great novels, Watership Down is a rich story that can be read (and reread) on many different levels. The book is often praised as an allegory, with its analogs between human and rabbit culture (a fact sometimes used to goad skeptical teens, who resent the challenge that they won't "get" it, into reading it), but it's equally praiseworthy as just a corking good adventure.
The story follows a warren of Berkshire rabbits fleeing the destruction of their home by a land developer. As they search for a safe haven, skirting danger at every turn, we become acquainted with the band and its compelling culture and mythos. Adams has crafted a touching, involving world in the dirt and scrub of the English countryside, complete with its own folk history and language (the book comes with a "lapine" glossary, a guide to rabbitese). As much about freedom, ethics, and human nature as it is about a bunch of bunnies looking for a warm hidey-hole and some mates, Watership Down will continue to make the transition from classroom desk to bedside table for many generations to come. --Paul Hughes

I read it maybe seven years ago, and I really liked it. I think we still have the book around here somewhere.

I'm re-reading Stay Tuned, by Jen Weigel. This was one of the books that I told you about, I think. I wish I could afford to send this to you along with a few other things I *still* have here for you. One of these days, you might actually get them.

Hera, I have trouble finishing most of them too. I finally finished three last week, two of which went back to the library.

A Year By The Sea is a great book, by the way. (That's one that I finished reading.) I've given it to Mum to read, but I was thinking of passing it along to either T. or Melody.
