I didn't really know what I wanted to do, so I picked a degree that I had a solid foundation in, maths, physics and problem solving skills, and one that would be worth the investment. Mechanical here, is quite general, we cover bits of everything, hydro and fluid dyanmics, thermo, control, civil and structural, aeronautical etc. Maths and statistics, as well as business and project management. My final year I was part of a group that looked into and worked on a project for the Royal Navy. Alas, I was not enticed by any engineering graduate jobs, and I don't think engineering is necessarily my calling. Of course there are so many niches, I don't know about them all. So you never know. How about you?
Tried anything in biomed? I heard it can be more than interesting than most, and at least here mechanical is better in the field than actual biomed engineering. I thought il be a psychologist, but i feel like i lack the skills and the stability such a proffession requires, and with the extremely difficult path one must take here to become one ( one of the hardest in the world) it seems like an insane risk. I have time to think though, since i have 3-4 years of militairy service coming soon (all citizens must do) and im going to serve as a system administrator, so il get to see that "world" and see if the field actually fits me, and get a bit more mature and "self-knowing" so il be able to make a more sound decision. If il choose the sys admin field, it will be an easy entrance since i would have very good technological experience ( the army here is among the most advanced in technology) so finding good work with good pay will be easy, but i wont go if il find it uninteresting. Anyways, many decision to make for this libra, and im glad i have the time to sit and think about it. If not mechanical engineering, then where will you go? Have you thought about forensics? Grrr...have to get my tire patched today. Somehow I got a screw in it. How can a screw be so perfectly balanced on the ground as to penetrate a tire when it's run over?IP: Logged |
