Saw one flipping around and dying on the cement sidewalk while I waited for the bus the other day. He/She obviously was in its last moments. The sun was blazing-hot and beating down. There was nowhere I could pick up the little creature in order to take it to a safer cooler more-shaded place. There was none available. All was a long tall brick wall, cement sidewalk, road with high speed vehicles. NO shade anywhere, except!, my smaller shortened shadow. I recognized the butterfly's death-dance. I'd watched videos on that and I knew what I was looking at. I moved my own shadow OVER the dying light-spring-green and yellow butterfly. I formed a v-shaped harbor with my sneakers, not too close, with plenty-enough room for air to reach gently to it just-in-case a breeze might come? ... Thought for a moment about the Bible stories I'd heard of Peter.. whose shadow was so Powerful that it could Heal the sick as he passed by... For the quickest-second of a passing moment, I imagined 'if' there could be such a chance....? Maybe in the Cool, the wind would be like a Headwind, and Lift this creature up high so it could escape itself back into the grasses, bushes, and vegetation? After a while, it stopped being 'so frantic'... flipping back-and-fro. It seemed to 'rest' easier now...? I thought 'hope' again? Maybe this little rest it has will give it a chance to revive itself? Restore its strength? ... Rest easy, little flutter-by. Gently... I Am With You. You Are Not Alone. I am Covering You. Watching you with My Eye Upon you... And, I understood as well, that Death is an interesting part of living-- something that we must accept. Honor it. Took the bus maybe 30 minutes to come. By the time it arrived, the Change happened. The resting butterfly had passed. I had Held Space for it... Sent loving thoughts, and appreciation to its little Being. I thought of how it had been a small rippled wormy-thing, that in due time had drawn up its body, twisted with floss webbing and milk-film,... into a cocoon of some sorts. I thought about 'how' butterflies turn into goo-- and WINGS? Wing. ... Oh my. Magically, how ever could you possibly have KNOWN 'what' wings are?? So foreign. You look at a butterfly, and-I-mean, WHO would EVER be able to imagine a creeping footed-worm transforming into Such Elegance, a Form with Wings?? It had Transitioned from a footed-worm, to a winged thing. And now, there it was.... I was concerned. And I Watched. I was 'there' ... as it Transitioned one extra stage -- back into its nature spirit form. I Cared for it in its short life, as it had Decorated and Blessed Our World. It brought Delight to Its Maker.. and for moments, it witnessed for its last time, the Beauty of Life, to me. What a privilege. LIFE. ..
