Anyone out there insist on getting their political opinions and views from clearly biased sources?Conversely, does anyone look to conservative or liberal editorials for a sense of perspective on current events? IP: Logged |

Well I live in a very diverse place.....Growing up and knowing many things through people of other nationalities....and of course stuff that has happened in my country. New york times and the local news is basically the only thing I get my news from. They tell the truth.
New york City and california from what I have seen are very open minded states. I have also heard of Hawaii being very open minded from other people.
Dunno.........Just speaking from my experience.
It's not about being a democrat or republican or a leftist...in old man J's words.
It's about not taking lies and crap from from the govt. IP: Logged |

TP, the New York times is one of the most politically biased -liberal- newspapers in the US. Ask anyone. Oh and they lie..they all lie, if not directly, by omission. Remember this? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3018505.stm http://slate.msn.com/id/2101294/ Shameful huh? AG, editorials are nothing but opinions and yes, I read them for perspective, but mostly I read political [reference] books. I consider myself a critical thinker and do tend to "know where the bones are buried"...i never believe anything 100%. If something doesn't feel right I check it out. IP: Logged |

Here's the point, Lovely. There is truth in all things. MOST people don't go looking for lies. They go in search of truth. Arbitrarily claiming conservatives are the only ones that know any truth is ridiculous and absurd. quote: If something doesn't feel right I check it out.
You endorsed a book by Ann Coulter on the other thread, though you haven't read it yet. She has as many critics as Michael Moore or Rush Limbaugh. The very premise of the book lies in opposition to the American way. "Treason," is not a word anyone should throw around lightly, and it's highly offensive to be put in the category of treasonous people while not having committed a single treasonous act. I'm going a little off track here, but I'm just trying to make the point that you can't objectively categorize millions of people's political beliefs by the side they vote for. By endorsing a person who does this, I feel you undermine your own credibility. For every extremist celebrity there is a person or people looking for the holes in that celebrities words and actions. Do you give equal time to Ann Coulter's critics? IP: Logged |

AG, have you read the book? I'm very aware of who Ann Coulter is and think the title of her new book is rather bold. She feels very strongly. She has that right~ and I do not believe she said *you* were "treasonous" ~ You have the right to reject persons in your political party. quote: The very premise of the book lies in opposition to the American way.
Uncovering truths is not the American way? How do you define "American way"?

quote: AG, have you read the book?
No, I haven't. Nor have I watched Michael Moore's movie. Nor have I read any book by any person who can only see the bad in the opposing party. I disagree with people that take a black and white view of things, because when you think the truth only belongs to one party while millions in the opposing party disagree it's a pretty safe bet that there is truth on both sides. quote: She feels very strongly. She has that right~
I never said otherwise. quote: and I do not believe she said *you* were "treasonous"
You're right. She didn't. She would probably predict Treason if I ran for office as a democrat, but that hasn't happened yet. I've seen her on numerous occasions, however, and she makes quite clear her contempt for anyone this side of the aisle. quote: You have the right to reject persons in your political party.
I do. Like Dennis Kucinich, for example. He's an idealist, but impractical. Oooh, Howard Dean too. You ought to as well. I'm not saying that in a high and mighty way, but rather just suggesting that everyone ought to seek their truth from people who don't make a practice of spewing hatred towards their fellow Americans. quote: Uncovering truths is not the American way?
No, accusing a group of people of Treason as a way of promoting their party isn't the American way. I would think that would be fairly self-evident. IP: Logged |
