"If we listened to our intellect we'd never have a love affair. We'd never have a friendship. We'd never go in business because we'd be cynical: "It's gonna go wrong." Or "She's going to hurt me." Or, "I've had a couple of badlove affairs, so therefore . . ." Well, that's nonsense. You're going to miss life. You've got to jump off the cliff all the time and build your wings on the way down." - Ray BradburyIP: Logged |

Cool, I just found out we have a THEATER too! These just keeps getting better. And Yin is my mommy! woo-hoo!!! And no body is guna yell, or eyeball me suspicously if I get home late! Yin, while you do the dishes and bills, I will sit at the table keeping you company, with an endless stream of meaningless babble, untill you slap me with one of those yellow plastic gloves, or chase me out the door with the broom. I pout for about, oh say, 4 minutes and then I'll be back. Who can tell stories. I need to fall asleep to a story. You can read from my dog-eared copy of GRIMM'S, if you like, but you have to 'do' all the voices different. You up for story telling AG? Will help with your improv! IP: Logged |

I hate to say it, but as a Sag I know you can handle it. Story reading to someone at bedtime doesn't really get me excited. You're welcome to listen to one of my audiobooks if you like. The Golden Compass series has a whole cast who do a brilliant job bringing the characters to life.IP: Logged |

I'll have to go back to audio books. When I was working as a house cleaner, I was addicted to them. It was literally the only way I could get through the routine. I haven't listened to one, in say, about 11 years! I guess I've missed alot! I like to read, but it gives me a headache, and for some reason, lets say 'life', I have a hard time lately with concentrating. I keep re-reading the same paragraph and getting irritated with myself. So I'de be interested in your suggestions of good stuff on audio. IP: Logged |

Oh, if only you were technologically confident! I have a subscription at Audible.com. I pay like $23 a month, and they give me two credits. Most books only cost one credit (though they may retail as much as $25 or so). You can also just straight up buy [audio] books. I put them on my mp3 player, and take them with me. You can listen to them from your computer of course, so if that's appealing you could check it out. (And if you get an mp3 player I can try to help you learn how it works.)My experience thus far has been a little mixed. I haven't always made great book choices, and it's partly because I didn't listen to the samples. One of my books, a sci-fi one, was just terrible. Bad writing mixed with a fast talking narrator. So terrible! In another one, I just didn't find the narrator engaging, though he was clearly trying to pull it off. Phillip Pullman, who wrote The Golden Compass, narrated his own book, and he did a fantastic job alongside the cast that did the voices of his characters. A couple other authors also did a great job narrating their own books. My Suggestions based on what I've got: Fiction The Golden Compass: His Dark Materials - Phillip Pullman The Subtle Knife: His Dark Materials - Phillip Pullman The Amber Spyglass: His Dark Materials - Phillip Pullman Non-Fiction, and not necessarily novels Banker To The Poor - Muhammad Yunus Blunder (fantastic so far) by Zachary Shore Brain Rules - John J. Medina In a Sunburned Country - Bill Bryson (great wit) The Ricky Gervais Show Freakonomics - Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner That's all that I can recommend thus far. Obviously I like learning through the nonfiction stuff (all of the above listed ones are super good), but I'd really like to find more intriguing novels and stories to listen to as well. I just don't know how to pick them. IP: Logged |

They will say that you are on the wrong road, if it is your own. In no one did I find who I should be like. And I stayed like that: like no one.
If you do not raise your eyes you will think that you are the highest point.
Treat me as you should treat me, not as I should be treated.
I believe that the soul consists of its sufferings. For the soul that cures its own sufferings dies.
Suffering is above, not below. And everyone thinks that suffering is below. And everyone wants to rise.
They have stopped deceiving you, not loving you. And it seems to you that they have stopped loving you. You will find the distance that separates you from them, by joining them. When the superficial wearies me, it wearies me so much that I need an abyss in order to rest. I will help you to approach if you approach, and to keep away if you keep away. He who tells the truth says almost nothing.
I saw a dead man. And I was little, little, little… My God, what a great thing a dead man is!
The loss of a thing affects us until we have lost it altogether.
My pieces of time play with eternity.
I am chained to the earth to pay for the freedom of my eyes. When I have nothing left, I will ask for no more.
Every toy has the right to break. A large heart can be filled with very little.
He who makes a paradise of his bread makes a hell of his hunger.
The chains that bind us most closely are the ones we have broken.
~ Antonio Porchia (Aphorist, 1886–1968)

Most people know that there's more. Suffering is above, not below. And everyone thinks that suffering is below. And everyone wants to rise. They have stopped deceiving you, not loving you. And it seems to you that they have stopped loving you. Hmmm...I suppose to the more spoiled children this might be true. There's an element in me that finds it difficult to equate love with deception. I love you, so I deceive you. I know it happens a lot, but I guess I would just say that that's not the greatest expression of love. You will find the distance that separates you from them, by joining them. If there's already distance, then you've already found it. No need to join them for more confirmation or definition of the distance. He who tells the truth says almost nothing. The loss of a thing affects us until we have lost it altogether. No comment, except to say that I like this one. IP: Logged |

I was just reading more by Alice Walker..."Nobody is as powerful as we make them out to be." "The animals of the planet are in desperate peril... Without free animal life I believe we will lose the spiritual equivalent of oxygen." "it is this broken road with pitfalls and sharp turns and unexpected traverses that has brought me joy and adventure. " "In nature, nothing is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways and they're still beautiful." "We do not believe in heaven or hell...; we do not believe in eternal damnation. We believe only in the unavoidable horror of hurting others and of likewise being hurt." "She was so quiet. So reflective. And she could erase herself, her spirit, with a swiftness that truly startled, when she knew the people around her could not respect it." "I am an expression of the divine, just like a peach is, just like a fish is. I have a right to be this way...I can't apologize for that, nor can I change it, nor do I want to... We will never have to be other than who we are in order to be successful...We realize that we are as ourselves unlimited and our experiences valid. It is for the rest of the world to recognize this, if they choose."
