quote:
“Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot, who calls you back when you hang up on him, who will lie under the stars and listen to your heartbeat, or will stay awake just to watch you sleep… wait for the boy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you are in sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends, who thinks you’re just as pretty without makeup on. One who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky he is to have you… The one who turns to his friends and says, ‘that’s her.”

I sing the Body Electric
The armies of those I love engirth me,
and I engirth them;
They will not let me off till I go with them,
respond to them,
And discorrupt them,
And charge them full with the charge of the Soul.

~ Walt Whitman

Love is the only freedom in the world because it so elevates the spirit that the laws of humanity and the phenomena of nature do not alter its course.

The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances. If there is any reaction, both are transformed. ~ Carl Jung

To the loved, a word of affection is a morsel, but to the love-starved, a word of affection can be a feast.

The Souls of people, on their way to Earth-life, pass through a room full of Lights; Each takes a Taper, often only a spark, to guide it in the dim country of this world. But some souls are rare fortune, are detained longer and have time to grab a handful of Tapers, which they weave into a Torch. These are the Torch-Bearers of humanity, its Poets, Seers, and Saints, who lead and lift the race out of darkness, towards the Light. They are the lawgivers and the Saviors, the Light-Bring..ers, Way- Show..ers and Truth-Tell..ers, and without them, Humanity would Loose its way in the Dark..... ~ Plato

I liked this though I confess thinking of the torch bearers as being the greedy ones who aggressively snatched up a bunch of lights when everyone was supposed to take one is strange. Then I thought of it a different way, others had time to take only one it said... but then did some have time for none while the torch bearers had time for many? Welcome to my mind... and I haven't had my coffee yet. :/ Something about it was beautiful though... the lights...

MM - I view it more as to whom much is given, much is expected.
I associate greed with those who hoard or do not share their "gifts/talents" to teach and uplift others. This goes way beyond the material/money take for me. Truth is that I am not to be the judge of these matters. (even though my EGO still wants to, so I'm working on this)
I also see torchbearers in many of the mentally challenged adults that I have had the pleasure to interact with during the course of my lifetime. Many of these special individuals emanate an astounding light to me. I even have one across the street from me, who I consider of my guardians.
The spark of the ALL is present in all matter of living things.
Reminds me of the song ... "This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine"

Now I gotta post this again:

"Turgenev received by the mysterious decree which marks out human vocations the gift which is noble beyond all others: he was born essentially impersonal. His conscience was not that of an individual to whom nature had been more or less generous: it was in some sort the conscience of a people. Before he was born he had lived for thousands of years; infinite successions of reveries had amassed themselves in the depths of his heart. No man has been as much as he the incarnation of a whole race: generations of ancestors, lost in the sleep of centuries, speechless, came through him to life and utterance."

~ Ernest Renan,
on the death of Ivan Turgenev

mind excessively what is said about him.
Literature is strewn with the wreckage of men
who have minded beyond reason the opinions of others."

that the submerged truth sometimes comes to the top."

" In uncertainty I am certain that underneath their topmost layers of frailty men want to be good and want to be loved. Indeed, most of their vices are attempted short cuts to love. When a man comes to die, no matter what his talents and influence and genius, if he dies unloved his life must be a failure to him and his dying a cold horror. It seems to me that if you or I must choose between two courses of thought or action, we should remember our dying and try so to live that our death brings no pleasure to the world. "

~ John Steinbeck "East of Eden"

We rely upon the poets, the philosophers, and the playwrights to articulate what most of us can only feel, in joy and sorrow. They illuminate the thoughts for which we only grope; they give us the strength and balm we cannot find in ourselves. Whenever I feel my courage wavering I rush to them. They will give me the wisdom of acceptance, the will and resilience to push on. Helen Hayes

An act of love that fails is just as much a part of the divine life as an act of love that succeeds. For love is measured by its fullness and not by its reception.

True love will find you in the end
You'll find out just who was your friend
Don’t be sad, I know you will,
But don’t give up until
True love will find you in the end.

If you love something, set it free.
If it comes back to you, it's yours.
If it doesn't, it never was.

We do not possess anything in this world,
least of all other people.

We only imagine that we do.

Our friends, our lovers, our spouses,
even our children are not ours;
they belong only to themselves.

Possessive and controlling
friendships and relationships
can be as harmful as neglect.
