"We shall extend and display respect to all others which reflects our own appreciation of humanity. We shall carry our pride quietly, neither boasting of ourselves nor speaking badly of others - often a dishonest method of self-praise. Yet we must be unashamed of our principles and honest in our criticisms."

~ Hawaiian Code of Conduct

read this one while passing through a book:

A warm humor satisfies all paradoxes.

Every school should have a garden.

Children always think they're playing.

Wise men carve the loneliest paths;
fools are always finding each other.

Every word is an Arcanum.

In order to identify ourselves with the sufferings of one man, or the enlightenment of another, it is necessary to go beyond the narrow confines of the personal self. It is because such vicarious experience is possible that one is able to say, with Paul, "As sin entered the world through the diobedience of one man (Adam), so is salvation come upon all men through the fidelity of one man (Jesus)." And whether we follow in the footsteps of Christ, or merely imagine, with the fervor of a holy empathy, ourselves standing in his place, and speaking as he spoke, the result is the same: transcendence. That such a man lived enriches the life of every man; for no man can think, even for a moment, of Christ, or Christian Love, without feeling inside himself the stirrings of the Holy Spirit. Christ, the name (or "Word") of God, is enough to invoke the grace of a genuine presence. God is never farther than our remembrance of Him.

Wisdom is granted even in the supplication for wisdom; the request for grace is a grace; and the desire to know God's will is an evident manifestation of God's will.

Generally speaking: Genius is silent, or offensive.

"Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just go to the studio and work every day." -- Chuck Close

F-ck You, lol.

For all that Saturn is worthy of respect, she exceeds her authority when she deems that others be like her, or else, be damned. There are people who do not possess Saturnian metal, but who, nevertheless, do not deserve the title of "amateur". They live and work according to their nature, which pays great respect to the gods, if not to Saturn foremost. We should learn to value the wanderer, though our world clearly favors the tradesman. Both are types worthy of recognition, who cannot change their spots.

"Not all those who wander are lost."
~ Tolkien

[Incidentally, I'm not impressed with the distorted photos and photo-realistic paintings Chuck Close cranks out of his studio day after day. No wonder he has harsh words for inspiration; there's nothing inspired about his work.]

Why are you swearing at me? lol

What's very funny right now is, i was thinking back to this quote on my way to the grocery store and I said to myself....no, i don't think i agree with that one anymore....

I read it on an art forum and liked it right away. Went back and forth with it a bit and now i think it's foolish and yes, very Saturnine. I know what i liked about it though.

Also, i'm an amateur and always will be. I also work mostly from inspiration too. Chuck sucks.

Please stop thinking I'm like some super Saturn hero, HSC. That bugs me because it's not true. Of course there's a thread of it there, but I'm a Cappy rising. You don't have to tell me what you did. Maybe tell Chuck though (*maybe you were )

*makes note to google his work

* last two quotes are great.

i'm just being a defensive silly.

i like what you wrote
and glad you're in good spirits

i see what's good in the quote, too,
but its worded so categorically...
i dont know how to explain it exactly,
but its a perspective, or philosophy,
that can be very helpful to one type,
and very hurtful to another.
it doesnt really tell the truth, but
it tells chuck what chuck needs to hear,
and maybe you needed to hear it at the time.

But, especially in America,
there's this puritanical injunction to work,
and to produce more and more stuff.

Particularly for folks like me, I think,
that's just an albatross around the neck,
and an expectation that has more to do with
the sickness of our present civilization,
than with reality.

I'll try to stop thinking of you
as a Saturnian superhero.

Glad to see you happy too.

I hear what youre saying and mostly agree. About feeling like one has to work and produce more stuff....I get you, I hate it, but at the same time, if youre going to eat and pay your rent you really have to force yourself to produce - especially as an artist. I dont want to live in my car. And it's hard because we are often struggling with depression and things of that nature. It's not always fun for me either (feeling like I HAVE to do these things, the pressure). I resent it most of the time. Yes, might be nice if this world operated a differently. Cant argue with you there. All we can really do now is try our hardest to live by our own code, morals and ideals and not get dragged down or in.

Thought this one deserved repeating. Just posted it in another thread, it's a great blurb. I heard it not to long ago and of course it struck a chord and i thought i'd find it and type it out.

Gerald Celente editor of Trends Journal in an interview with Project Camelot.

quote:
"...is to remember that art is the way of finding the true meaning of the human spirit. And when you go around Europe you see beauty through the eyes everywhere you go. And now when you go around America you want to close your eyes to the ugliness of strip malls and chain stores and big box stores..so in order for us to proceed and progress as humans, we have to progress with Art leading the way. And it's something that has been taken away from most of Western culture...and that's what we're saying that has to be done now.. So this holiday season, if youre going to buy a gift for someone, buy it from a local artisan, someone living not dead. Buy a craft. Don't buy a kid a crumby plastic disposable toy or a video game to warp their mind. Buy them something that's going to further their artistic sensitivities. Because the whole world is being taken over by a bottom-line corporate culture and for us to break free, our hearts have to break free. And that will free our souls our minds and bring back our dignity and respect.

T,

That's awesome! I totally agree! Now I feel selfish that I make most of my presents instead of buying from local artists because I'm by no means an artist, and they could use the money more than I need to save it.

No way, dont feel selfish about that! Maybe you could do a little bit of both this year. I usually dont have many people to buy for, but this year i'm giving one boy i know some art supplies. He loves using my pastels, so i'll get him some of those I'd like to support other artists from now on too.

How interesting...I didnt realize they didnt take PayPal. I have a better idea. Give me a few and I'll email you and link you up to my other site. I'll get the print made myself. That way, it will be sure to pass my inspection anyway. You can let me know the size you prefer too. And thank you!

But it is also possible that one takes Darwinism as it is presented today, but without being conversant with the principles of life in Darwinism itself; in other words, if you accept Darwinism as an impulse and don't realize the profound understanding of Christianity which lies in Darwinism, something very peculiar happens. What can happen is that you have as little understanding of Christianity as you have of Darwinism. One may then be abandoned by the good spirit of Christianity as well as by the good spirit of Darwinism. If one is imbued with the good spirit of Darwinism, however, then one can be ever so materialistic, and still be led back to a point in the history of the earth where it becomes clear that man never evolved from lower animal forms, that he must have had a spiritual origin. One goes back to a point in time and sees man as a spiritual being hovering over the earth. A logical Darwinism will lead to that.

-Rudolf Steiner, The Fifth Gospel, Lecture I

Here's something interesting I saw somewhere else:

quote:
I had an intro Psychology class one time. Teacher drew a spectrum on the blackboard, like this:

<---- Insane ------------------------------- Normal --------------------------------- Unsane --->
--The mentally ill ------------------ Most people --------------------------------- Artists

He said there was a shorter distance separating the "unsane" from the "insane" than that between the "normal" and either of the others.

I don't get it. What's the difference between insane and unsane? The way the scale looks, it would appear that Normal is closer to either side than Unsane is to Insane.
