Happiness

Life in the barn
was very good
night and day
winter and summer
spring and fall
dull days
and bright days

It was the best place
to be
this warm delicious cellar
with the garrulous geese
the changing seasons
the heat of the sun
the passage of swallows
the nearness of rats
the sameness of sheep
the love of spiders
the smell of manure

and

the glory of everything

I removed only the punctuation, and the words, “thought Wilbur” from this lyrical and symbolic excerpt from the book, Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White.

The ending always made me cry.

I've always said that in politics, your enemies can't hurt you, but your friends will kill you.

~Ann Richards

Truth springs from argument amongst friends.

~David Hume

You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs for you because I liked you. After all, what's a life, anyway? We're born, we live a little while, we die. A spider's life can't help being something of a mess, with all this trapping and eating flies. By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle. Heaven knows anyone's life can stand a little of that.

~E. B. White: Charlotte, "Charlotte's Web"

"You aren't perfect and neither am I, but I'll still love you till I die."

~Mystic Melody

What is a friend? I will tell you. It is a person with whom you dare to be yourself.
- Frank Crane

Two may talk together under the same roof for many years, yet never really meet: and two others at first speech are old friends.
- Mary Catherwood

This is the most important thread on LL right now.

Thank You, Mel.

“It’s an interesting thing. Seeing Kuan Yin relating to a flower so intently. She's not just looking at it; she's interacting with it…I’m seeing how the act of relating to a flower appears to be so simple. Yet, it takes a tremendous amount of courage to make such a “simple” act important. Now, the lotus is floating away.”

Charlotte's Web, I mean. I was so disappointed in the animated version, because the book to me was so much better.
