Here are some Gems from Rumi from the book The Essential Rumi Translations by Coleman Barks New Expanded Edition THE SHEIKH WHO PLAYED WITH CHILDREN
A certain young man was asking around, "I need to find a wise person, I have a problem". A bystander said, "There's no one with intelligence in our town except that man over there playing with the children, the one riding the stick-horse. He has keen, fiery insight and vast dignity, like the night sky, but he conceals it in the madness of child's play." The yound seeker approached the children, "Dear father, you who have become a child, tell me a secret," "Go away. This is not a day for secrets." "But please! Ride your horse this way, just for a minute." The sheikh play-galloped over. "Speak quickly. I can't hold this one still for long, Whoops. Don't let him kick you. This is a wild one!" The young man felt he couldn't ask his serious question in the crazy atomosphere, so he joked, "I need to get married, Is there someone suitable on this street?" "There are three kinds of women in the world. Two are griefs, and one is a treasure to the soul. The first, when you marry her, is all yours. The second, is half yours and the third is not yours at all. Now get out of here, before this horse kicks you in the head! Easy now!" The sheikh rode off among the children, The young man shouted, "Tell me more about the kinds of women!" The sheikh, on his cane horsie, came closer, "The virgin of your first love is all yours. She will make you feel happy and free. A childless widow is the second. She will be half-yours. The third, who is nothing to you is a married woman with a child. By here first husband she had a child, and all her love goes into that child. She will have no connection with you. Now watch out. Back away. I'm going to turn this rascal around!" He gave a loud whoop and rode back, calling the children around him. "One more question, Master!" The Sheikh circled, "What is it? Quickly! That rider over there needs me, I think I'm in love." "What is this playing that you do? Why do you hide your intelligence so?" "The people here want to put me in charge. They want me to be judge, magistrate, and interpreter of all the texts. The knowing I have doesn't want that. It wants me to enjoy itself, I am a plantation of sugarcane, and at the sametime I'm eating the sweetness." Knowledge that is acquired is not like this. Those who have it worry if audience like it or not. It's a bait for popularity. Disputational knowing wants customers. It has no soul. Robust and energetic before a responsive crowd, it slumps when no one is there. The only real customer is God. Chew quietly your sweet sugarcane God-Love, and stay playfully childish. Your face will turn rosy with illumination like the redbud flowers.

Here are some Gems from Rumi from the book The Essential Rumi Translations by Coleman Barks New Expanded Edition UNFOLD YOUR OWN MYTH
Who goes early to discover the moment light begins? Who finds us here circling, bewildered, like atoms? Who comes to a spring thirsty and sees the moon reflected in it? Who, like Jacob blind with grief and age, smells the shirt of his lost son and can see again? Who lets a bucket down and brings up a flowing prophet? Or like Moses goes for fire and finds what burns inside the sunrise? Jesus slips into a house to escape enemies, and opens a door to the other world. Solomon cuts open a fish, and there's a gold ring. Omar storms in to kill the prophet and leaves with blessings. Chase a deer and end up everywhere! An oyster opens his mouth to swallow one drop. Now there's a pearl. A vagrant wonders empty ruins. Suddenly he is wealthy. But don't be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth, without complicated explanations, so everyone will understand the passage, We have opened you. Start walking toward Shams. Your legs will get heavy and tired. Then comes a moment of feeling the wings you've grown, lifting. (I love this one)
Edit: Shams was his Guru IP: Logged |

Love so needs to love, that it will endure almost anything, even abuse, just to flicker for a moment. RumiLove is reckless; not reason. Reason seeks a profit. Having died of self-interest, Love risks everything and asks for nothing. Rumi Silence You are the diamond in me the Jewel of my real wealth! From your soft earth grow thousands of rose gardens whose perfumes drown me in my heart. Rumi Let the lover be disgraceful, crazy, absentminded. Someone sober will worry about things going badly. Let the lover be. Rumi
We are the mirror as well as the face in it. We are tasting the taste this minute of eternity. We are pain and what cures pain both. We are the sweet cold water and the jar that pours. Rumi

Think that you are gliding out from the face of a cliff like an Eagle. Think you are walking like a tiger walks by himself in the forest. You're most handsome when you're after food. Spend less time with nightingales and peacocks. One is just a voice, the other just a colour.IP: Logged |

Here are some Gems from Rumi from the book The Essential Rumi Translations by Coleman Barks New Expanded EditionTWO FRIENDS A certain person came to the Friend's door and knocked. "Who's there?" "It's me." The Friend answered, "Go away. There's no place for raw meat at this table." The individual went wandering for a year. Nothing but the fire of separation can change hypocracy and ego. The person returned completely cooked, walked up and down in front of the Friend's house, gently knocked. "Who is it?" "You". "Please come in, my self, there's no place in this house for two. The doubled end of the thread is not what goes through the eye of the needle. It's a single-pointed, fined-down, thread end, not a big ego-beast with baggage." But how can a camel be thinned to a thread? With the shears of practices, with doing things. And with help from the one who brings impossibilities to pass, who quiets willfulness, who gives sight to one blind from birth. Every day that one does something. Take that as your text. Every day God sends forth three powerful energies: One, from the sperm of the father into the mother, so growth may begin. Two,a birth from the womb of the ground, so male and female may spring into existence. There, there's a surge up from the surface into what is beyond dying, that the real beauty of creating can be recognised. There's no way to ever say this. Let's return to the two friends whose thread became single, who spell with their two letters the original word BE. B and E tighten around subjects and objects that one knot may hold them. Two scissor blades make one cut. And watch two men washing clothes. One makes dry clothes wet. The other makes wet clothes dry. They seem to be thwarting each other, but their work is a perfect harmony. every holy person seems to have a different doctrine and practice, but there's really only one work. Someone listening to a millstone falls asleep. No matter. The stone keeps turning. Water from the mountain far above the mill keeps flowing down. The sleepers will get their bread. Underground it moves, without sound, and without repetition. Show us where that source of speech is that has no alphabet. That spaciousness. Where we are now is a narrow fantasy that comes from there, and the actual, outside world is even narrower. Narrowness is pain, and the cause of narrowness is manyness. Creation was spoken with one sound, BE. The two letters, B and E, to record it, came after. The meaning of the sound and its resonance are one. There's no way to ever say this, in so many words! And no place to stop saying it. Meanwhile, a lion and a wolf were fighting.......... IP: Logged |

@ Cancer/Scorpio haha thats cute indeed. Did you get it? I am sure you would have but since you are so young. Here are some Gems from Rumi from the book The Essential Rumi Translations by Coleman Barks New Expanded Edition EACH NOTE Advise doesn't help lovers!
They're not the kind of mountain stream you can build a dam across. An intellectual doesn't know what the drunk is feeling. Don't try to figure what those lost inside love will do next! Someone in charge would give up all his power, if he caught one whiff of the wine-musk from the room where the lovers are doing who knows what? One of them tries to dig a whole through a mountain. One flies from academic honors. One laughs at famous mustaches! Life freezes if it doesn't get a taste of this almond cake. The stars come up spinning every night, bewildered in love. They'd grow tired with that revolving, if they weren't. They'd say, "How long doe we have to do this!" God picks up the reed flute world and blows. Each note is a need coming through one of us, a passion, a longing-pain. Remember the lips where the wind-breath originated, and let your note be clear. Don't try to end it. Be your note. I'll show you how it's enough. Go up on the roof at night in this city of the soul. Let everyone climb on their roofs and sing their notes! Sing loud! IP: Logged |

((((Cancer/Scorpio))))). At your age i hadn't come anywhere near RUMI. Here are some Gems from Rumi from the book The Essential Rumi Translations by Coleman Barks New Expanded Edition
THE FORCE OF FRIENDSHIP
A sea cow, a dugong, finds a special pearl and brings it up on land at night. By the light it gives off the dugong can graze on hyacinths and lilies. The excrement of the dugong is precious ambergris because it eats such beauty. Anyone who feeds on majesty becomes eloquent. The bee, from mystic inspiration, fills it rooms with honey. So the dugong grazes at night in the pearl-glow. Presently, a merchant comes and drops black loam over the pearl, then hides behind a tree to watch. The dugong surges about the meadow like a blind bull. Twenty times it rushes at nothing, passing the mound where the pearl is. So Satan couldn't see the spirit center inside Adam. God says, Descend, and a huge pearl from Aden gets buried under dirt. The merchant knows, but the dugong doesn't. Every clay-pile with a pearl inside loves to be near any other clay-pile with a pearl, but those without pearls cannot stand to be near the hidden companionship. Remember the mouse on the river bank? There's a love string stretching into the water hoping for the frog. Suddenly a raven grips the mouse and flies off. The frog too, from the riverbottom, with one foot tangled in invisible string, follows, suspended in the air. Amazed faces ask, "When did a raven ever go underwater and catch a frog?" The frog answers, This is the force of friendship. What draws friends together does not conform to laws of nature. Form doesn't know about spiritual closeness. If a grain of barley approaches a grain of wheat, an ant must be carrying it. A black ant on black felt. You can't see it, but if grains go toward each other, it's there. A hand shifts our birdcages around. Some are brought closer. Some move apart. Do not try to reason it out. Be conscious of who draws you and who not. Gabriel was always there with Jesus, lifting him above the dark-blue vault, the night-fortress world, just as the raven of longing carries the flying frog. IP: Logged |

I Too Have Been Covered With Thorns I am your moon and your moonlight too I am your flower garden and your water too. I have come all this way eager for you, without shoes or shawl. I want you to laugh, to kill all your worries, to love you, to nourish you. Oh sweet bitterness, I will soothe you and heal you. I will bring you roses. I too have been covered with thorns.
