I hadn't written any poetry in ages (was focusing on song-writing) but I wrote this from musings on the passing of time, how some things endure and some don't. ------------------------------------------- Before 'it was for the best' I flee to the starlings at the sea on the edge of winter, stumble through slush, sand and needles of light. The sky is moving, shadows jag in and out of the fog, the swell grinds at the wall. A stiff clutch of roses clings to the omnipotent arm of a memorial bench. An elderly couple push along the front, wind slapping their anoraks. They anchor under a scintillating column. His slow hand haloes her face with fur and sweeps her silver waves inside. An old, folding couple moored in each other. Gasping-up the world because they still have time. My eyes fossilise them. I am a tundra circling someone else's baby.

Uch, thanks everyone for your kind responses. That's weird Mirage, there must be a theme in the air! Although I wrote this poem at the beginning of the year. IP: Logged |

This is so beautiful... thanks for sharing! It reminds me of a moment I had not long ago, watching this elderly couple in a shoe store... it took this guy forever to lower himself to the ground so he could help his wife tie her shoes, but he did it at least 3 different times —I was a little bit awestruck, to be honest. And a little bit sad.IP: Logged |

A river of starlings went over my head this morning, and I remembered the name of this awesome video. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iRNqhi2ka9k Up next: my own ancient poem with starlings in it, and finally a decent title (those almost always come to me way late).IP: Logged |
