I finally bought a Tarot deck yesterday. I've been reading about the cards for so long, it's good to finally have my own deck. BUT, I feel a little strange about it, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to treat it. I remember reading somewhere that it's not a good idea to let other people touch it for the first little while, or that I shouldn't do readings yet, or that I should meditate with it. lol.. so I'm a little uncertain what to do. I slept with the deck under my pillow yesterday.. should I keep doing that? Any advice? Thank you IP: Logged |

I don't think that stuff really matters. Just be careful of bending them or any moisture that would wreck the deck. Wreck the deck? They get harder to shuffle when they're damaged. Plus, they'll cut/break on the damaged cards more often which will mess up you readings. Or maybe I should pay attention to the damaged cards>?IP: Logged |

The first deck of cards I bought, I slept with them under my pillow for two weeks - I read it is called "seasoning" them. I then played with them for a few days, just to get a feel, and then did my first reading after 3 weeksor so. I loved the sleeping with them, it felt like a connection was made, if you kn ow what I mean. I also kept them wrapped in a silk scarf (I chose blue) and then inside a wooden box, or velvet bag. I suppose it is just what felt right - good luck - which deck are they. I have Morgan Greer at the moment but am very drawn to the Gilded Tarot - love Sue xxxIP: Logged |

Greetings...I'm from the 'there are no rules' school. If you feel moved to let someone touch your cards, go right ahead. If you want to sleep with them under your pillow, fine, do that. You will ultimately reach the same level of 'bond' with your cards simply by looking at them and using them. And when I slept with mine under the bed (let alone under the pillow) I had weird dreams. I say, do what 'feels' right to you. Look at the cards, shuffle them, and they will begin to take on your energy. The more you use them though, the more in tune with them you will feel; almost as if they are talking to you, or showing you things.. which they are. Blessings.... Thanks for the advice. I've continued to keep them under my pillow- and I've been having very strange dreams as well. The deck is called Haindl. It's a little unusual in that the court cards are altered- "mother", "father", "daugher" and "son" instead of the traditional names and it adds "..in the west, ..north, ..south, and ..east" and uses a figure from a particular culture to represent the card. For example- "Mother of Wands in the East"- with Kali depicted on the card. It also uses "stones" instead of pentacles and there are no Temperance and Judgement cards, but rather "Alchemy" and "Aeon". I love the drawings, though. And maybe it fits into my life, to have the cards be a little "different".IP: Logged |

What Aselzion said! ------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen.
