I have the Rider-Waite, my favorite, and I'm wondering the best way to choose a significator. I've been choosing the card I feel best represents the situation I'm wondering about. As for shuffling with Waite, the directions state the querent shuffles three times, then the reader shuffles three times. If I'm doing both, should I shuffle 6 times altogether? IP: Logged |

Hi Whalewasp, I would choose the significator for yourself to be the King of Cups (you are Pisces arent you), or if you want to ask about someone else I go by astro elements, water, fire etc, ie King Wands - fire, Kings Coins- earth, Swords air etc. As for shuffling, I shuffle until it feels right to stop then I break the pack into three pile and choose. There are no rules, just go with your Piscean intuition, it is very strong!!!! When I do readings I always ask a specific question and find the answer is usually quite clear - good luck and enjoy love Sue xxIP: Logged |

Thanks for the advice sue g. BTW, what is your fav deck? I really like the feel from the Rider-Waite. There's really something about the color and style I like. I've been wanting to try out the Thoth style, but haven't been able to find one.IP: Logged |

Greetings....I don't always use a "significator" card. I really despise the Celtic Cross, for me I find it unclear and misleading, unless there is a VERY SPECIFIC question. Even then I don't usually use a significator. I might if the person I was reading for weren't present, but generally I discard the whole concept of a significator. Personally I like the Morgan Greer deck, I like the renaissance styling and the colors seem warm and vibrant to me. It is very close (with few marked exceptions) to the symbolism on the Rider-Waite deck. The Thoth deck is very much in favor with witches for some reason. Personally I can't warm up to them, but each person must choose a deck that speaks to them. When I tried to read with the Thoth deck, I got a headache. If you are a Piscean, you might be enchanted by the muted tones that are so prevalent in that deck... that is the beauty of the Tarot, there is a deck design out there that will spak to everyone. If I were to pick a significator, I would do as Sue suggested and use the elemental breakdown : Fire = Wands. Swords = Air. Cups = Water and Pentacles (disks) = Earth. In terms of shuffling.. just do what comes naturally!. The only Tarot rule I know to be consistent is: There Are No Rules! In the Light... Hey sue g and Aselzion. No, I haven't seen the Gilded set yet. Hmm Aselzion. You got a headache reading the Thoth deck? I like the designs I've seen on the deck...but I'm not sure about them. Don't like the Celtic cross? What layout do either of you like for a broad, overall reading? I don't do readings except when the will to do them just kind of 'happens'. Maybe once every two or three months. Alot of times I won't even have a question. I just want the cards to act as a microscope and mirror with me as the subject. Just a way I can put things into perspective. I find the Rider-Waite has a feel to the simple, but very compelling colors and tones, which lets me concentrate more on what is happening in the card, and the symbolism. I keep that rule in mind: "The rule is that there isn't any." I like that. Thanks!IP: Logged |

I just did a reading on a 'potential significant other' using the wineglass layout. Here's the results if anyone feels inclined to help me interpret them.Card1: Page of Pentacles Card2: Six of Wands (reversed) Card3: King of Wands Card4: 2 of Cups Card5: Temperance Card6: The Hermit Card7: 8 of Wands Card8: Knight of Wands Card9: Three of Pentacles I'd never done that layout before, thought it would be ok for the present situation.
