We you inquiry interested me and therefor i looked into it a lil bit. at first my first impluse was that they did this to control the population - but that wouldnt explain why that year, children were aborted since they still do this in China today to control the population by allowing a husband and wifeto have only one child. In the more populated areas anyways, rural they are not so strict as they know they still need hands andlabor for field/farm work.

Then i came across this ...
Even though most people know if they are an Aries, Pisces, Aquarius etc., in Asian philosophy, the month of the year one was born is still important, but the year in which they are born is paramount. Thus, one may be an Aries Pig or a Gemini Horse. Through the centuries, babies who will be born in the year of the Fire Horse are often aborted, as families seldom feel they should risk bearing children who historically born in this year, often produce social and behavioral problems. It is said the abortion rate in China and Japan soared the last time this year occurred (January 21, 1966 to February 8, 1967). Just remember, "Don't blame the messenger for the message." I wasn't the one who established the rules for Fire Horse years. But if you are one of those Fire Horse people reading this who are a bit neurotic wondering, let me ease the mind of at least 50 percent of you, as this rule only applies to females.
