I have books and cards, but never spent as much time with them as I wanted to. I think I have a weird reason:The cards scare me. These are simple Ryder-Waite decks (excuse my spelling if it's off), so it's not the images that are frightening. I use online tarot reading generators and I have requested readings here before and that does not scare me. I've had readings done in person and this doesn't bother me at all. I feel like there is something between me and Tarot cards personally. If there is a "buffer" I feel alright, but otherwise, I find it to be a slightly disturbing experience. I feel embarrassed to mention this because I'm a pretty open-minded person and I've been persuing these types of things my entire life, so it's not new to me. But I wanted to say something just on the off chance someone could relate or explain. Thank you.

hi, futureSome will tell you they are just cards, nothing important materially and that it's the meaning and messages and symbols within them that are important and powerful. I, however, disagree with that perspective. I feel them as powerful objects, and when inanimate objects are powerful and feel alive, it can often be a somewhat disconcerting experience. Sometimes when I keep them under my pillow I have very powerful dreams- and I think others on here have mentioned that effect. But- a good rule is, if it makes you uncomfortable then don't force yourself to use them. Maybe you are not ready, for some reason? Or you need to take a break from them? Perhaps cosmic consciousness is telling you to seek answers within for the time being? Just musing. Have you always felt this way about them? IP: Logged |

Thanks for your reply, whiterabbit. Yes, I have always felt this way. When I first started using them I was younger, so that apprehension was part of thy mystical experience for me. But now I don't plow right into it anymore. I still use them from time to time, just haven't had the chance to get very good at it because I don't use them very often. I, like you, feel like the cards are alive, or at least there is a very real and dynamic energy about them. I think a lot of it is that I don't want to accidentally use them incorrectly. I get very powerful intuitive "readings" when I use them, but they don't usually match up with the traditional meanings I find in books. That could be what concerns me the most. Thanks again, and if anyone else has more to add, I'm all ears. Thank you IP: Logged |

I have had this discussion with people before and feel if you are in any way frightened of the cards,,,,leave well alone.....I have seen extremely powerful and strong messages in my cards which, for some, would have had a very negative effect. In January I did a reading and saw a disaster coming to me and within a couple of weeks our house caught on fire....it took me a long time to recover......nobody was hurt thank God, but the fact that I I saw it in the cards, very unnerving in a way...but then again I always did have a very curious and probing mind!!! I am at a stage in my life where I think most things thrown at me could be handled...since having a near death experience, everything else seems like chickenfeed LOL Just be careful girl, if things are gonna play on your mind, I would leave well alone for now.......in a few months/years time you may feel differently/ Good luck

Thank you, Sue.I don't think that's what I was hoping to hear, or at the very least, I recognize a feeling of disappointment at these words. You have supported what I already felt was true. Hopefully in time it will pass. I would like to be more involved with this. Thank you again and always for your input. Always appreciated! Thanks again to you, too, whiterabbit. IP: Logged |

I have this feeling too (where I don't mind using an online tarot or if someone does a reading for me every now and then, but I don't want to get too "close") and I think Sue gave excellent advice. I do believe they are like living things, and my imagination/visualisation abilities are very good, plus I think it's easy for me to "tap in" to certain things if I so wish... AND I get very anxious about any potential bad news... When I was in the crystal shop the other week and my upper chakras got stimulated by a danburite point, my third eye was being pulled by the tarot cards. I picked up two or three different decks and felt the pull. But I don't want to go there. The only cards I've ever played with were some crystal cards that are called the Crystal Oracle. I was comfortable with those. At the shop the other week I felt safer with some cards that featured saints and angels, as opposed to any "regular" cards or the Aleister Crowley deck (which seems to want me, but I don't want it! I'm sooo not comfortable with that guy, but morbidly curious I guess. :-| )... Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I can relate and that you're not the only one! lol@ the Gummy Bear cards! Anyone detect an element of black humour? I think the Gummy Bears potentially disturb me even more than a regular tarot. Hmm... IP: Logged |

Blackrabbit... I saw your heads up on antoher thread, and then forgot to check it out until now.I did find a deck about a year ago that I really like. It's called "Roots of Asia" and I've never felt uncomfortable with this deck. Thank you for your response and all the links. I appreciate you taking the time to address this. GeminiLover, do you have a deck that you particularly like? IP: Logged |

No, I'm pretty unfamiliar and to be honest, not ready. But I did stumble upon my bf's astrology 'Oracle of the Radiant Sun' cards the other night... they're just oracle cards, not a tarot deck, and I've been playing with those. IP: Logged |

Here is a link to the deck I bought. The images strike me as more gentle than some others and perhaps this is why I find them less disturbing. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/roots-of-asia/ It's really beautiful. IP: Logged |

Very nice! Glad you found one you like I'm sticking with these astrology cards for now. I can do different spread layouts with them and find them to be really accurate! IP: Logged | |
