It has been a really long time since I've written anything at Lindaland, but it's because I've been so busy with mundane matters. I've been on a new spiritual journey after receiving my attunements in Reiki. The more I learn estoric knowledge the more I realize that my studies correlate with yours. I'm studying so much of the Tarot, Astrology, and Qabalah. I've also found myself in a new job reading Tarot for others. After having a conversation with my Wiccan friend, we got into a discussion about what to call yourself, in regards to your spiritual path. Now this may be unimportant to some, but when some people ask me what religion do I participate in, I cannot give them a straight answer. My Wiccan friend has a lot of the same beliefs I do, and he completely considers himself a Wiccan (he's initiated into a coven, and everything inbetween), but deep down inside I could never consider myself a follower of Wicca or could I? The idea of being apart of a "religion" doesn't resonate with me, or at least I cannot look people straight in the eye and call myself a Wiccan or whatever. My concern is, what do I call myself when others ask me what do I believe in? Am I spiritualist, am I an occultist, am I a hermetic, am I a mage? I'm asking you because I find that your quest is so similar to mine that I was curious as to what you call yourself?

P.S. You live in Mass right? I have a feeling I'll bump into you. Lately, the Reiki attunements have given me experience with energy work, and it has really increased my psychic abilities.

Greetings...

Well I certainly understand how the mundane world can put a crimp in time online and if we are not careful our own Spiritual pursuits.

I suppose my question is... why does it matter what you call yourself? If you feel a need to affiliate with a group, then join the group, and call yourself that.

The question becomes, exactly whom are we trying to impress by creating labels?

We must never make the mistake of confusiong Spirituality, which is between OneSelf and God (and are we not ALL parts of God?) and Religion, which is more groups of men/women coming together to find God, in whatever fashion?!?

Personally.. though I am studying Wicca with my friends, when I am with them, I call myself a Witch, because their use of that term , for their group, implies: One who walks between the Worlds. I can identify with that! If I were with people that were afraid of witches or Wicca.. I might not be so forthcoming... because that is NOT ALL of Who I Am. No label is.

If asked directly my Religious affiliation, I often will say something cheeky such as, "I was raised a Catholic, but I gave it up for Lent one year and never took it back up again." Or, equally as often, I might say that, "I am an Esoteric Christian with a twist!" After the heads stop shaking, if they go on to ask what I mean by 'twist', I might reply, "Paganism".

So.. truly we are talking about semantics.

You Are Who and What You Are. If it makes you comfortable to say Psychic, there is nothing wrong with that, it is true. But again, that label may come with its own baggage. People will attache certain meanings to it that we might not...

Like a Gem, you are multi-faceted. What side of your Self are you showing at that time.

If it does not resonate with you to call yourself Wiccan, then do not do it.

Kind of like being Irish and Italian. When I am with the Italian contingency, I call myself Italian. When people ask if I am Irish, because I look more Irish than Italian.. I say yes, I am Irish.. and Italian.

All of these things are simply like coats that we wear.

Find the One that fits YOU, and wear it proudly. But never wear an ill fitting coat, it can make you appear to have holster hips where there are none!

Yes I live in Massachusetts.. recently I have moved to Newburyport.

Perhaps one day our Paths will cross.. perhaps they already have!

In the Light (with tongue somewhat planted in cheek)...

P.S.

Seriously, Star... I will often just say I am an Astrologer and leave it at that. Or equally as often, I will say that I am a Student of Spirituality, or that I study (Astrology, Tarot, Qabalah)

A Student of Metaphysics? There that has a nice ring to it.

A Metaphysician? Above a Physician?

How about Shirley Maclain's term: Metaphysicist?

I dunno.. let's experiment with more labels?!?

We can really make out heads hurt!

Woo-hoo!

Clear As Mud?
