Well I have heard that a gifted deck is particularly "lucky", if you believe in "luck" as such.

I believe we must all find a deck that suits us and "talks to us" as it were. Now, that having been said, we often will buy a deck and find that after a few readings its symbols do not speak to us in the same way as another, favored deck. In this case, if someone that I knew appreciated the symbols or artistry in the cards, I might gift them away.

I think your friend might be talking about a deck that you use frequently, will become embued with your "energy" and that might be unwise to gift away. In this case perhaps you might want to "cleanse" the deck before you gave it off.

The bottom line is that the cards are tools. In and of themselves they have no real power. We give them power by making them internal to us by learning their symbols, and being able to call their images to mind at a moments notice.
