quote: The Hierophant is known as the High Priest in some decks. He is the masculine counterpart to the High Priestess. He also known as Chiron, the Pope, and the Shaman. The crown he's wearing has three tiers to represent the three worlds. His right (power) hand is raised in benediction, the same hand the Magician has raised. In the Magician, he was taking raw power from the Universe and manifesting it on the material plane. In the Hierophant, that power is channelled through society. (As in the religions of the world). The triple sceptre is another symbol of his dominion over the three worlds. The crossed keys represent a balance between the conscious and subconscious minds. These are the keys that unlock the mysteries. The Hierophant is ruled by Taurus.
http://www.biddytarot.com/major/hierophant.html Anybody see a possible connection between Taurus and Chiron, I am curious to know what others think about it. He is connected with Chiron because you can see keys there but I cannot see anything related to Taurus. IP: Logged |

Greetings...Well, it isn't so obviously drawn in the Waite deck, but the Headdress is supposed to accentuate the ears and the sense of hearing, or Inner Hearing "Intuition" that is associated with this card. In the B.O.T.A. Tarot, the Hierophant has a moon shaped clasp on his cloak, and as we all know, the Moon is exalted, or brought to it's highest expression in Taurus. And according to Astrology the neck/throat/voice is ruled by Taurus. The corners of the Hieropahnt's throne are symbols of Taurus as well. The Hierophant is also kind of a male version of the The High Priestess, again The Moon, which we have said is exalted in Taurus. Look at the simiarity in those two cards. The Hierophant's staff is a 3 tiered cross with a knob at the top, making 7 points. The 7th sphere on the Tree of Life is Netzach, which corresponds with the planet Venus, ruler of Taurus. Also the number 5 may be broken down into the combination of 2 and 3, which are the High Priestess (The Moon) and The Empress (Venus) respectively. Interesting, no?!? Yes, it can also be broken down into 1 (The Magician - Mercury) and 4 (The Emperor - Aries), and that symbolism is also apt, though a bit more esoteric and qabalistic than we need to explore at the moment. As an old fogey, I see no correspondence between The Hierophant and Chiron, but if that association rings a bell of Truth for you, by all means, go with that! Just my two cents. Blessings in L.V.X., A IP: Logged |

PeriThanks for the info. Interesting that The High Priestess has been referred to as connecting the above to the below. In kabbalah she is associated with the letter Gimel. the path of gimel is the 13th path and it is the longest path on the tree of Life. It connects keter, the crown, to tipareth, beauty. on the cube of space, Gimel is below where Beit is above. Beit's number is 2 like the High Priestess. Again an above to below connection. (the tarot card associated with Beit is the magician). I have been seeing the number 52 quite a bit. Hence when I saw the 5 being that of the Hierophant and then the High Priestess card being 2, I thought I would explore IP: Logged |

I am 40 something or other and since my 20's I have been studied bits of Rosicrucians to Buddhism. With all of my studies, I have been nomadic - meaning they felt right and "true" but not HOME for me. I have found HOME in Kabbalah. The funny thing is that it all has the same message just different routes of getting there. Check out pathofreturn.com. the course on hebrew letters is very eye opening. IP: Logged |

When we truly know that we are all one, we can then understand the numerous similarities. Our information is derived from the same place. It is in the basis of belief and therefore wording as to where the difference is.IP: Logged |

I just noticed that the card that Aszelion posted of the High Priestess has a Beit on the column on her right and a Yod on the left one.Beit - symbol of a house, feminine aspect of the souls represented by the house, the soul as a house for G-d, the daughter of a priest, houe of Immanence and Transcedence, associated with the number 2, man's ability to choose between good and evil. open side of Beit is in the north symbolizies courage and might. Divine power of Self to contain 2 opposites. closed sides Divine revelation - You - in mind, heart and action. Open side Divine concealment- "He" in the hidden heart darkness above the lgiht. Yud - A fromed point, a crown above and "pathway" below, natural wisom, power of self nullification, Revealed Omniprescence, it is a hand, to thrust principle of actiona nd reaction, intelligence, friendship, Empthy g-d's hand the Infinite Will and ability to sustain the Creation. Charity both physical and spiritual, number 10, ten Sefirot - spiritual powers(like the cirlces on Peris's tree of life) IP: Logged |
