Greetings...Sidereal Astrology is based on the sidereal zodiac. It differs from the Tropical zodiac in that it is based on the actual location of the constellations vs the Tropical use of the ecliptic with zero degrees of Aries as the fixed starting point. The difference between the Tropical zodiac and the Sidereal zodiac is called the Ayanamsa. There are several different Ayanamsas in use depending on which system of Astrology you are using. (for example the Lahiri Ayanamsa or the Fagan-Bradley Ayanamsa) Traditional Western Astrologers tend to use the Tropical zodiac. Vedic Astrologers use a sidereal zodiac. Though I have looked into Vedic astrology, and find it has merits, I cannot say that I am used to working in that system. Hope that helps a wee bit. Good luck with your studies... thank you Lonake - I will follow that suggestion Aselzion - thank you for the info... some of what you mentioned i knew but i hadn't heard the term Ayanamsa mentioned... i'm not planning on formally studying sidereal, simply trying to understand the differences between the two systems... ------------------ ...there is no "I"...
