Hi LL,I apologise if there has already been a discussion similar to this one, as I havent been around here that long T_T Basically I was wondering about these themed decks. Are readings obtained with their help to be trusted? Do you have any experience to prove if they are or if they are not? I can see how Marseille and RW both descend from the tradition, some iconography or other etc. Far be it from me to over-estimate the sacred element in their symbolism, but well something is there, and I have read Waite's classical text that explains what exactly he relied on while art directing his deck. I suppose at a pinch I could even acknowledge Crowley's horrible deck, it might work for acid-dropping shop assistants who have no future anyway. But all these other weird ones? Such as Arthurian Legend? Surely that's a bit out of the blue and not much reliance on the tradition? Or Robin Wood? (But that one is sort of close to RW, ok) Or tarot of dreams? Is this iconography blessed with the power to shed light on things? Obvs, one can even make Harry Potter or LOTR tarot (which do indeed exist), but what will the value of these predictions be? Anyway, if you don't mind sharing stories, I'd be grateful IP: Logged |

For me, I have always been attracted to RWS since day one and I still do ALL my tarot readings with that deck alone. I tried with Paulina's tarot, Druidcraft tarot, Tarot of Dreams, & Lovers Path Tarot but trust me the way I can read so easily, and so smoothly with RWS its no other deck. I say that because may be I'v learnt tarot with it so my mind has already made a connection withh this deck's symbols and cards but honestly my intuition stops still when I pull the same card from another deck I mentioned above.I guess more &more decks are appearing because people are attracted towards the artwork. I do not see how they read with the decks you have mentioned. at least I'm that "gifted" to do that. I like artistic decks but can't always work with them. Ancient Egyptian tarot by Clive Barrett Deviant Moon ~ Patrick Valenza Any deck by Ciro Marchetti The Faeries Oracle ~ Brian Froud The Celtic Tarot ~ Caitlin Matthews The Witches Tarot ~ Ellen Cannon Reed the Ancestral Path ~ Julia Cuccia-Watts Zodiac Tarot ~ Lee BurstenI've had good results with all of those [and some that aren't springing to mind quickly enough]. It depends whether I can gel with the overall concept of the deck, if I don't really connect with the artist via the cards, then I can't read them. I don't like Harry Potter so wouldn't get the cards. I do have an old lord of the rings one [oracle] that I used a few times and it was accurate but I found it a bit negative. Ciro Marchetti's work is very good [tarot of dreams]. I'd been reading the cards for over 12[?] years when I first came across one of his decks and I was very impressed at how easy they were to read for others and as soon as I wore the deck out I got the next deck he did [legacy tarot]and still pick them up now. I like themed decks. Still, only use the ones that resonate with you.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

I generally use the cards that speak to me through illustration but I always use the interpretations I learnt from working with the RW deck when I first started tarot and my cards work with me on that basis. There is another tarot deck that contains astrological symbols on them and I love to work with them as Astrology is one of my strong pointsIt's whatever works for you really, although I question the effectiveness of a barbie themed tarot deck I saw IP: Logged |

Yep, wanted to say the same. As a matter of fact I started like everyone with the RWS tarot (when I was a teenager actually, so many many years ago). Maybe I was simply too young or immature, but this deck and me did not get along at all. It did not resonate with me, and actually I think we didn`t like each other very much. It sounds maybe weird to say it but I need to feel like I can "trust" a deck. Well, I did a bit of spreads later with the Crowley one, cause I bought it in a cheap box. lol (AS a matter of fact my RWS tarot set mysteriouly disappeared one day, as I said it didnīt like me, and I didn`t like it really). I was okayish with it (that was before I knew of Crowley`s background. lol).
I havenīt found the perfect deck yet, but I have grown very fond of the "Sacred Circle" deck, and also sometimes use the "Loverīs tarot"-deck (for relationships esp.).
But really I find myself always drawn back to the Sacred-Circle one and relying upon this one. I guess we kinda like each other. (Maybe because my new username is Ceridwen. lol Or maybe because I have a flaw for anything celtic).

I still think someone should create a celebrity deck.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

My favourite deck by far is the Renaissance Tarot, I'm not sure why I was drawn to it but it's so beautiful.IP: Logged |

Al Pacino as Devil . . . love being Aries did a spread for me,and in further mind-boggling consideration,I felt really enlightened. I took it as a sign to revise my Tarot knowledge. So,I will order Shadowscape deck,so beautiful, this cardparticularly hit the cord with me,and I responded to that, since this is something I want to do for myself only. I absolutely understand the downsides to different decks, but if you are immersed in the symbolism, different solutions can even stimulate you further. Marseille Deck is particularly eerie - harsh and liberating as truth. I think the reason I got interested in Tarot for the first time (as a teen, didn't last for long, astrology got in the way) is because it seems so mysterious and powerful. Saw Deviant Moon,as well, liked it very much IP: Logged |

It seems that Helena Bonham Carter has already made her way into a tarot deck
Monroe for Star,Garbo for High Priestess. Jack Nicholson for Magician
A comedian should be falling off a Tower

Mmmm, really digging this idea
Thom Yorke for the Hanged Man I'd suggest Monroe should be the Empress if anything My High Priestess is PJ Harvey, no question about that IP: Logged |

I was thinking Sophia Loren for Empress - appearance is very feminine and she is maternal, luscious Italian woman with appetite for life - Monroe she is more of a symbol and...true star, immortal, and MM herself radiates,I feel it goes well to show Star's positive outcome.Liz Taylor - Queen of Wands. Or Chariot Knights should be young & wild,James Dean,Buddy Holly even Marlon. Bette Davis - Queen of Swords? Fool is demanding, though. AND,I love music ideas, like Yorke and Harvey. Maybe a new suit all together ? IP: Logged |
