Hi guys,I would like to try my hand (ha ha) at tarot card reading. Which is the best in your very professional opinion to start with. Also is it possible to read for yourself? IP: Logged |

Hi Poochy,You could start with any tarot deck that you feel drawn to. As for reading for oneself, I do it all the time. IP: Logged |

PoochyCat, i typed your reply to the thing on Personal readings, earlier today, and just posted what the cards said about your question! Tarot, i think the normal RWS is good for starters, but i really like the fairy lights tarot lately!

HeyaIt really all depends on your ultimate goal(s). If you want to have fun just choose anything you like, since the market is extensive. RWS (Rider-Waite-Smith) is good because let's be honest it's easy to grasp and the symbolism is very straightforward. I would recommend staying away from Marseille and the likes of Visconti-Sforza, because the imagery is not always straightforward, esp in the minor arcana dept. Would be extremely difficult for a novice. Off the top of my head at least a year should be allowed, even by the most gifted ones, before they get anywhere near being confident with these. Unless they are willing to delude themselves of course The problem is these are derivatives of playing decks, esoteric usage not being their primary function at all A lot of decks are essentially Rider-based in that they keep all the Rider symbolic elements and re-interpret them in the stylistic vein of every given deck. Robin Wood is a good one if you like pagan symbolism, also very Rider-based. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/robin-wood/ Even Joie de Vivre is Rider based, at the end of the day http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/joie-de-vivre/ PS the only book on tarot one could ever want, at least for the first several months, is this http://www.hermetics.org/pdf/Waite_Tarot.pdf written by waite, the creator of one of the first divinatory decks IP: Logged |

Hi andstuff,Thanks for your info on the book by A.E.White. I may look for that one. I'm reading some from my local library at night,in bed, with my herbal tea after a LOOOONG stressful day on my feet! So right now it would simply be for fun, but when I have time to really delve into it, I may start offering readings. I have been told that I am physic however I can't do it for myself. So thanks again for the info. poochycat. IP: Logged |

Go for any you are drawn to. My first deck was the Spanish Tarot and as a new as I was at it I had a lot of accurate readings with it. It truly depends on the person..it's all based on opinions, not facts -- so don't worry to much about it. Look at the colors of decks (I noticed that I personally need decks with bold and loud colors) and the images to see if you like them. It also depends whether you use your left/right brain more as well to see what you like. A good website to browse through them is http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/radiant-rider-waite/ Out of RW's decks that one is my favorite. My second favorite is this one -- http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/morgan-greer/ But that one has a cheap cardstock. Another good one for beginners is (but I don't like it, just that many others do) -- http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/hanson-roberts/ That one is a smaller deck than the average. About the size of regular playing cards..a bit smaller. Ok, hope that helps a bit IP: Logged |
