I have trouble at times with cards that seem so different from each other, in this case 4 of swords- 4 of cups- 3 of rods as a reaction to something. Here's some links for images of the cards http://www.daily-tarot-girl.com/2012/09/19/four-of-cups-tarot-card-wednesday/ https://woley.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/threerods.jpg?w=450 IP: Logged |

Which part troubles you then? ETA: Decks that have 4 of Cups as 1 (Ace-y, a divine gift, as it were) + 3 Cups already attained speak of an offer, perhaps regarding a friendship (3 of Cups) or in general one's emotional well being connected to their closest people. IP: Logged |

The 4 of cups and 3 of rods. The way I see them the 4 of cups can get past soemthing and the 3 of rods I often see as karma, a gift from the universe, things returning to you, but to be careful with it, don't mess it up. So these two in terms of a reaction...I'm not sure...with the 4 of swords there's reflection, clearly something is being thought about but not said... IP: Logged |

You mean decks in which the 4th cup is seen as an offering?

^ Yes. In The Pictorial Key to the Tarot it is said that 2 Fours mean insomnia. #TheMoreYouKnow I can see the derivative connections, but is it applicable here? My [scattered] thoughts regarding your reading - even though we use different decks & have different styles in reading : - The reaction is defensive - the key card being 4 of Swords, the retreat, recuperation. They are shielding away. It is the suit of swords, so the action is deliberate, to protect one self. - The Cups in relation to Swords show dissonance. Maybe they are offended, they are pouting, they are arrogant (indignant). - The Wands further the clash - if you put a Wands card as an explanation/continuation to the 4 of Cups, the 3 of Wands (implying planning, company, direction) speak to me as being spite or mean. Plotting. "I'll take a step back, but it is actually a counterattack." "Silent treatment, but with a retort coming soon." That would me my intuitive reading. But if you are using a deck that speak to you only, the cards of which are maybe vague for the others, but work well for you, triggering the interpretation spot in you, then this is entirely your call. hmmm...ok...Yes a retort did come, and it was along the lines of 'wtf?' I came out of left field and they had no idea what I was talking about. IP: Logged |
