Should I pursue this writing/publication job? I got offered a position to write articles for a health/fitness site. Its unpaid and doesn't offer immediate benefits, but the exposure and long-term outcomes might be worth it.

Yeah, because people (like you already said) would start coming out the woodwork. You, The Moon, would finally be revealed and everyone would like your style of writing. You'd most likely immediately land a stable column, or have offers and be confused on which one to take.

Or after some period of gestation (The Moon) and growing, maturing (The Sun) there will be out-of-comfort-zone rewards. You'd be pleased - what you wanted, but from a different angle.
