He specifically said he "very much dislikes" the nickname and then when I asked does he dislike the name or me calling him by it or nicknames in general and he said he thinks it's a weird nickname.

We used to be, but no longer. There is still a bit of flirting, not always, but when it's there it's really there, and other times it feels like there's a hint of it, at least to me (can't speak for what he feels).

But yes, I get what you're saying and I had that thought.

So previously he didn't seem to have too much of a problem with it but that may have been him just tolerating it. Moral of the story is I'm still unsure if it's the name or me or the fact that acknowledging it means acknowledging a connection which is why I thought of autonomy and a need to be independent (9 of discs). With 2 of swords following it almost seems a bit defensive.

and the 2 of swords probably means there is
a lot of flowing energy between you two may be there are feelings, a connection is still there and the nickname evoked a once shared intimacy that he doesn't want to acknowledge

I still think the 9P is you and the page is him, in between you two there is the 2 of swords. I think he really likes to talk to you, playful bantering, friendly almost childish way of teasing each other. I think he likes that, he likes being able to do that with you.
