I can absolutely relate. 2016 was full of trials and tribulations for me as well (*heavy sigh).

Idk if this is helpful or not, but I was told recently that 2016 is a "9" year (2+0+1+6=9). Apparently 9's carry the energy of closure and completion of a 9 year cycle, which can often bring with it a lot of sudden shifts and changes as we tie up loose ends and prepare to reset our energy for the new year. 9's are also pretty hardcore learning years because we need to understand the lesson before we move on to the next phase. I thought that was interesting - I definitely can see that being reflected in my own life.

As far as spreads for the new year, I like a simple self-reflection spread very similar to the Year Evaluation Tree:

1) What was I most successful with this past year?
2) What do I still need to work on in the coming year?
3) What learned lesson am I carrying into the new year?
4) What new lesson will I be working on in the coming year?

Heritage came into my mind. This can very well be from the family seen in the card or it can be a traditional lasting foundation that you began this year and comes into fruition the following year.
